I'll bet you a million bucks your house has or HAS HAD in the past- mice. Have a basement? Have hollow walls? Have an attic? Have a crawl space?

I take public transportation in and out of Wash. DC every day and we worry about much bigger rodents than mice. I'm sure there are mice on school buses too along with any other form of public transportation. It's all part of life!

First off know that I like mice as long as they're "in the wild" or as pets behind glass (and taken well care of) but I am extreamly allergic to them and/or their feces. If a plane were filled with mouse poop I'm positive I'd have had an asmatha attack, not something I would want to experience several thousand feet in the air.

That said however I have a hard time viewing this report as 100% credible. 900-1000 mice on one plane? ... I may be gullible but come on. They would have been scampering all over the toes of the passengers and it wouldn't have taken a mechanic to notice them first.

Secondly, I don't believe an airline would do "nothing" about a mice situation as reported when they know the dangers and that they have a major investemnt in those planes.

Something is amiss, but all in all, I'm honestly glad that there is so little news out there that channel 5 had nothing better to do than this report about 17 mice? (or is it 1000)

Now throw in a few of those pool hopping ducks and I'd be concerned

Wait till one crawls up your leg during a flight!
Besides, At the hundreds of dollars that a person has to spend on a ticket, One should expect a rodent free environment.

Honestly, 90-100 mice wouldn't take up very much room at all, and as they prefer darkness, it is probable that they would steer well clear of the passenger cabin when it is occupied. Much better pickings in the baggage hold (all those lovely cardboard cargo boxes), and no pesky people to spoil the fun.

It doesn't surprise me that it happens. Time to tent the plane and gas 'em.

Gee...to the OP...take a chill pill....try stopping at a public restroom when you are "driving"....do some tests in there at all the germs and smegma....yuck yuck..triple yuck! (please don't tell me you have never used a public john?)

rofl I love how they blow jabs at AA right and left like they are the only carrier something like this has ever happend to. I was listening to a podcast by a Delta Air Lines pilot, who had a snake inside the cabin (inbetween the windows) and the plane continued to fly from Atlanta to Vegas! Of course when it got to vegas, they disassembled the cabin and got the snake out....

I can explain the jibes at AA. The station is out of St. Louis, where all news has a local twist, and where everyone is angry at AA. Believe me, ANY opportunity to embarass AA is jumped on by our local news media; it is a guaranteed ratings winner.

TWA was *huge* in St. Louis; along with McDonnell-Douglas, it was the grease the fueled the prosperity of this region for decades. When AA bought out TWA's assets, they promised to employ TWA's people, and keep STL's air service at hub level. The promise didn't hold. They started ditching former TWA people as soon as the ink was dry, and after 9/11 they gutted STL air service; among other things, we no longer have any international flights. Thousands of people lost jobs, not only with the airlines, but with the companies who moved their corporate hq's away from here because of the decline in air service.

SWA has built a loyal following here, but they can't give us back our international service, and they cannot efficiently get us to NYC or DC, which hurts us economically on many levels.

I don't pay hundreds of dollars to use a public restroom. For the amount of money airlines are charging, the LEAST they can do is have a plane free of vermin. As long as people continue to overlook things like this, the more things like this will occur.

I think if the OP prefers not to fly, then she prefers not to fly, but I myself wouldn't look at this as a "make or break" reason as to whether to fly or not. JMHO.

Years ago I was a mechanic at Pan Am and they routinely has mouse glue traps placed above the overhead luggage compartments.

Exactly, or even hotel rooms, ever see the nightline "blacklight" specials about hotel rooms/ cruise ship staterooms I started traveling with a can of lysol after that!!
