We are talking about doing MGM. Have not been there or researched since 10/11 years ago. What should we get fast pass for when we first get there. Also what are the best things to do. What should my 10 yr. not do because too intense. He rides some fast type rides but not big roller coasters. What is best rest. that family can eat at reasonable but good. What day would be best to go-this Mon. or Tues. before Thanksgiving. We are leaving Sat. thanks for any info.

The two big rides at MGM are Tower of Terror and Rock N Roller Coaster. My little brother, of 8 has done and loves both of them. RnR is really fast (0-70 in like 2-3 seconds) and goes upside-down and is in darkness (with blacklights). Tower of Terror starts you off in a scary room (like Haunted Mansion) showing the Twighlight Zone - this did scare my brother - and then puts you in an elevator and you ride until all of a sudden you drop, then they lift you back and and again and again - each time is different. You are weightless at the top and come out of you chair. I love them both my self! Get fast passes for one and ride the other.

There are great shows - Beauty and the Beast, Indiana Jones (hasn't changed in 10 years!), Muppet 3-D.

Backlot tours, animation studios (this is really cool - a real animator shows you how to draw.), all about Walt Disney and his dream, Who wants to be a Millionare, Star Tours (a virtual kind of ride) etc.

Good eateries are Mama Melroses (Italian), Hollywood and Vine (Buffet), and 50s Prime Time (burgers)

DO NOT miss Fantasmic, get in line early for seats! It is so great, I just love it!

It's a great park, lot's of shows and shops...hope you enjoy!

My 12 year old DD hates most rollercoasters that either go really fast, are really high, go upside down, feet dangle.. She does ride, and love Rock n Roller coaster. Why I asked her? WHy this super fast ride that goes upside down? Her answer... Its inside, and I cant see it. If I could see the loops, I probably wouldnt ride it .... :confused3

Id let him try it once. Its an awesome ride. Tower of Terror is one of my favorites. ( right behind RnRC!!) The theming of this ride is outstanding. My 3 year old rode it in January. Again, my 12 year old WILL ride this, because its enclosed. We have a Pitfall ride here in Pittsburgh that drops you once ... and she will NOT get anywhere near it. Its open and your feet dangle. TOT she rides!! iTS NOT her favorite ,but she does ride it with us every time. Now, she sees Expedition Everest being built in AK, and already,, shes not riding it. lol

Cheaper places to eat.. Pizza Planet and Sci Fi are our must do's every trip. Prime Time is good too. THe sci Fi theming is awesome, and your 10 year old son will probably LOVE it.. You sit in cars that are tables, looking at a huge screen as if you are in the drive in. They play clips of cheesy black and white 'horror' and sci fi movies. Nothing gory. But its great there. We like the lunch menu with the sandwiches best, and its cheaper than dinner.

I wouldnt go Tuesday, as thats their EMH and it will get packed in there, esp 2 days before Thanksgiving. Definately go Monday.

your son will also like Star Tours and the Indiana Jones show. There is also the NEW stunt show!! We will be seeing that next week. The back lot tour is good, and we like the Great Movie Ride too. We also love the Beauty and the beast show and the little mermaid. Not sure your son will want to see those, but they are not complete girly shows.

Fantasmic is not to be missed!! On MOnday before Thanksgiving, its at 6:30 and 8pm. See the Holly-day Parade at 3pm ( check the times when you get there) and then at 6, walk over and see The Osbourne Lights. If you get there by 5:30, you can be on the street when the flip the switch and light them at 6. Walk thru , and head over to Fantasmic by at least 7:30 for the last show. Have fun!! We arrive on Thanksgiving day !!!

MGM is one of the two parks we are going to NEXT WEEK (can't believe I can say that). There is a new stunt thing that they are all raving about that I can't wait for the boys to see. Who wants to be a Mill. is another one.

For the animation with the person showing you how to draw. Do you need reservations or can you just walk in. Also I thought fantasmic was the show over the lake. Where do you sit down at, is it inside? Is 7:30 early enough for the 8:00 show. Any special place to be to see good.

We get a FP for Tower of Terror and then go over and ride the Rock n Rollercoaster (which your son shouldn't if he's afraid of coasters). Then we go back to ToT and ride it. Then over to Great Movie ride. I don't know what the Unofficial Guide says, though, and they'd know better than me.

:flower:

I don't know where, but Fantasmic is a show (movie??) in an outdoor theater, I think.

I have not been to the Animation Studio in a long time. But I am sure you just go there and they have scheduled times for the tours. You don't make a reservation. Sort of like "Who Want to be a Millionaire?", where they have shows scheduled at specific times.
Fantasmic is a show in a large outdoor theater. During the busy season you need to get there at least 45 minutes to an hour before. You can also get a Fantasmic Dinner package where you get a dining reservation at either the Sci-Fi or Hollywood and Vine at the Studios and they give you tickets for a reserved seating area. There is no extra charge for this and with these tickets you don't have to get to the show so early. Check out the info on allearsnet.com.
