What is the best way to get from MGM to Epcot? We are going to leave MGM after the parade and head over to Epcot. How do we do this the fastest?

The bus, I suppose.

There are boats that go between MGM and Epcot. They stop at the Epcot resorts but they are fairly efficient and a pleasant ride.

If speed is of the essence, walk along the path that follows the canal, cut through the Boardwalk pool area, then along the Boardwalk to the International Gateway between Epcot's UK and France. You won't have to wait for a boat, and you won't waste time as the boat criss-crosses between various hotels stopping at each on the way. Mind you the boat is very relaxing.

If speed is really of the essence, run or jog. A jogger could probably outpace the boat!

A jogger would easily outpace the boat, because the boat stops three times between Epcot and MGM! However, most people won't want to walk the considerable distance (it's about the same distance from SSE to the back of World Showcase). Between the bus and boat, I'd pick the bus for speed. But the boat ride is a nice experience too, worth trying once.

The boat takes 30 minutes from MGM to Epcot, not counting the possible 15 minutes you might have to wait for a boat. If a drove of people leave MGM after the parade, you might have to wait for a second boat.

Another bus option would be to take a Boardwalk, Beach Club, Yacht Club or Swan/Dolphin bus, walk through the resort and a quick walk to Epcot's International Gateway entrance.

There are no bus service between the Epcot resorts and Epcot or MGM.

Thank you for the replies. We have two young children so walking won't work. Time isn't of the essence I just didn't want to spend too much time doing this. Does a bus go to Epcot from MGM or do I have to take one to a nearby hotel and then transfer? Do I take one to the Boardwalk Inn and then transfer? I might do the boat but we are staying at WL and are doing the boat to Magic Kingdom so we would have already done that. If the bus is a little faster, that sounds good. Thanks again

There is a bus between MGM and Epcot(front entrance). It could be a little faster, expecially if you are going to the FW(front) part of Epcot.

The boat is a different type of boat than the ones between WL,FW,MK.

Holy Moly! I knew about the fact that there are no busses between Epcot & the Epcot resorts, but I never knew that there are no busses from MGM to the Epcot resorts! I just checked my handy dandy transportation guide and you are absolutely correct!
Thanks, I'm glad someone's awake around here! :sunny:

Not too much different, really.

And there are several different kinds of boats that make that MK/WL/FtW run, as well.

The Friendships that run between Epcot and MGM are a bit closer in type to the ones that bounce between the "near" and "far" sides of WS Lagoon.

I'm going to move this over to our Transportation Board where I'm sure you will receive some terrific advice.

Katholyn

The boat takes a half hour to make a one-way trip. It's faster to walk.

I always recommend the Friendship Launches for travel between MGM and Epcot.

Walking can be faster, but nothing beats the beautiful views of the Epcot resorts from the middle of Crescent Lake.

The Friendship Launches themselves are somewhat different from the boats that crisscross the MK waterways. They are enclosed and have polarized windows and even air conditioning for the hot weather:

Can you ride these friendships if you are not visiting a park for the day? Like for instance, if you just wanted to see the sights? Is it like Disney transportation, if you have a ticket, you can ride?

You can ride the friendship boats from Disney/Mgm to Swan/Dolphin then on to Yacht/Beach and then the Boardwalk then to the gate at Epcot's International Gateway and back. You cannot ride (without a ticket to the park) the friendship boats that are inside the Epcot gate at World Showcase.

One common mistake guest make is to take Disney Transportation either by bus or monorail to Epcot's Front gate (outside future world) then look for a connecting bus to the Epcot Resorts including the Boardwalk, problem is there is no connecting route so we tell guest that they have three options one is to walk through Epcot (after showing park pases) or take a Disney Bus to Disney/mgm and get the boat from there or take a taxi. :drive:

The Friendship Launches ARE part of Disney the Disney transportation system and are governed by the same rules. Anyone can ride.

I love the Friendship Launches; riding them is one of my favorite activities at WDW.

Eljay: This handy dandy transportation guide sounds quite, well, handy. Where could I find/get one? TIA
