MGM Studios has been renamed!!

you know what just occurred to me.. the last 2 parks to open:

Disney's Animal Kingdom
Disney's California Adventure

now Disney's Hollywood Studios

i wonder if we'll soon see Disney's Magic Kingdom, Disney's Epcot Nahtacenter and Disney's Disney Land

I remember that the tour guide we had for Wild by Design said that it is Disney's Animal Kingdom because of the animal kingdom, or that there was a smaller park already name Animal Kingdom. One of those two. So I assume it is the same with Disney's Hollywood Studios, but I don't know why they'd say Disney's California Adventure. I guess that Disney just has to cover all the bases so they don't get sued.

no, as i mentioned earlier, the content you see in the parks was always under separate contracts than the name. most of TGMR isn't MGM anyway I don't believe. now i gotta do some quick research.. brb

I agree with ChipnDale though...I think it should be Walt Disney Studio or Disney Studio. It seems like the more time passes, the less Walt is included...

Well, let us not forget that Walt himself didn't want his first name included in the name Disney World. It was only after he passed away that his brother Roy insisted that it be called Walt Disney World.

And Walt Disney Studios is already the name of the studio complex in Burbank, CA. It would be too confusing to have a similar-sounding name for the theme park.

It will still always be MGM to me, though. As part of their new "makeover", the park should definitely put a permanent show in that theatre near Sounds Dangerous that used to be "Doug Live" - Maybe put one of the DCL shows (possibly Hercules the Muse-ical, which is retiring in January!) I'll be sad about the parade, but I agree it's time for change after 6 years of the same parade.

Well, now I'm glad I never traded my "cheap" $6.95 pin that has Mickey on it and says "Disney-MGM Studios"! I expect it's going to be pretty valuable in the near future . . .

Ever noticed the official name of all the resorts? They are all "Disney's". Disney's All Star Music Resort, Disney's Yacht Club Resort, etc.

I'm bummed that they are now saying summer of 2008 for Toy Story Mania, I thought they had said Spring before and was really hoping it would be open for my April trip

I just don't care about Hollywood at all. I thought Disney's "Hollywood that never was and always will be" thing was dumb the first time I heard it and still do. But, that's me.

I'm just going to pretend that hollywood isn't there and call it Disney Studios. I'll be sure to buy a shirt and a shot glass that says MGM Studios on it when I'm there this fall.

This is almost exactly what I was going to say. I will probably just call it "DIsney Studios" or "The Studios". I like the change! I wanted something similar to this.

And will definitely get my MGM fix in a few weeks!

Oh and can someone explain this line:

This was in the original press release on Page 1. A later quote instead said:

Toy Story Mania! Guests get sporty in a new, interactive "Toy Story" competition inspired by Disney-Pixar's "Toy Story" films and hosted by characters like they've never before experienced.

I wonder who the first press release was written for that it would be enticing someone's clients.

And lastly, I am happy to see Block Party Bash coming to 'The Studios". I really enjoyed that parade at DCA, and think it will fit the theming well!

I just read on the www.allearsnet.com website that Disney has announced a new name for Disney MGM Studios beginning 2008. I believe the new name was Disney Hollywood Studios. New attractions. New parade. New shows and characters. There's a lot of information on the News page of the website. You may want to head over there and take a look!
