MGM Character Meal Update Thread

This will be a wait and see game. But WHY NOT do it already before my 7 year old is 18 years old and won't hang out with me anymore?

This is the part that makes me sad. We started going in 1998 when the older two were 6 and 4, and the little guy wasn't even being thought of. We went for my youngest's 3rd birthday, and he was so into Toy Story that I thought a Toy Story meal would have been a terrific idea. Then when he was turning 5. This year they will be 15, turning 13, and 7. They would all still love a meal with Toy Story characters and/or the Incredibles, but I am seriously losing time here. I don't know when we'll make it back with driver's ed. in summer school and college looming large on the horizon. Even if we do go in 2 years, the "baby" will be 9...a lot of the extra magic of the character meals will be gone. They will still enjoy them (as we adults do), but you must admit it's different when you have a little one that fully believes.

I have finally decided to bow out of this waiting....I have been keeping a space free on my sunday morning for this...but with free dining I know adrs are going to get booked fast for my late Aug trip

So...seeing as I upgraded my resort to CR after saving with the free dining I have taken the pluge and booked chef mickeys for our sunday morning insted.

This way we have no travelling to MGM...as we already at CR we can fall out of bed into chef mickeys and have a relaxing morning.

I know what you mean...it can get disheartening. It has been the same old thing for the last six years we've gone in a row--prior to that we only visited every 5 years--the only "new" thing was breakfast with Stitch. While not a huge thing, at least it was something different. My DD--she'll be 11 and my DS going on 15 told me not to bother worrying about getting ADR's for cahracter meals since there really wan't anything new. I booked one meal, but had really hoped this new one would materialize so I couold surprise the kids. Oh well, I get to try a bunch of different restaurants so that will be fun!

We're going to do stitch this time too. DS loves Chef Mickey's for the first night, DH doesn't like the food but there's not a lot of options to eat with Mickey so likely we'll wind up there. I just got my unofficial guide and updated it on the web site for emh (I know, I'm obsessed) so now I can start to make adrs this week. After the laundry, and cleaning up, and the dishes, and more laundry...I need to get off the Dis and get to work!

Still hoping for a Buzz/Woody/Alladin meal.

I would love the hero one, my DS5 is not into Toy Story because his little brother loves Buzz. So I would take one and not the other!

Now Power Ranger that one would be AWESOME!! They both love Power Rangers. As long as it was not as loud as where they are now. My DS6 did not like that. It is to loud.

Thanks to all those who have called and checked on this, we too are discouraged by the news that the Toy Story Breakfast won't happen. I will just have to add it to the list, we are hoping that Delta works out the difficulties or otherwise we can't even go.

Have you called Delta about this? We booked our tickets (frequent flier miles) through NWA and were put on Delta...we leave in two weeks...from what I have been reading they say that we shouldn't be concerned. I hope that is right...last thing we need is to get stranded!

My kids were so excited to see the Power Rangers when we were at MGM in December, and not just my boy...my girl too! The Pink Power Ranger was awesome posing with the kids and the entrance was unforgetable.

We would love a Power Rangers meal if they cannot arrange the TS/Incredibles one.

Thank you all so much for the well wishes! DH will be starting physical therapy, so hopefully that will help him. I hope that someone at Disney reads these boards and they see just how much a new character meal is needed. Maybe soon they can work out something to set up a meal for the older kids (boys especially). I hope you all have magical vacations....

Just wanted to thank you again for starting this thread and to add my well wishes for your husband.

As for the Playhouse Disney meal, we would have no desire for that one. I agree with a hero's meal which would include Aladdin, Captain Shang, Hercules, Robin Hood...............

IMO, a Playhouse or power rangers meal would be a bust since they don't hold much appeal beyond the target audiences. The most popular character meals are those that feature beloved characters no matter what your age. When I was little, I loved Transformers and Voltron like most other boys my age, but those phases quickly passed and I moved onto other things. The problem with specific target audience meals is that older siblings and parents may have no interest whatsoever. While the Princesses and others certainly have a specific target audience, they also hold a lot of appeal outside their specific audience. It's been my experience that the Princesses are really good making little boys feel special too.

Personally, I think in time they'll have a Pixar themed meal, but not this year, which is very disappointing to those who really wanted that to happen now. And I think Disney knows there is an audience for boys themed ideas, but what can you do when you don't have permission to use the characters yet? A heroes meal is a good idea since you could use Peter Pan, Philip(fighting the dragon has to appeal to boys), and Aladdin as your mainstays. The trick with Shang and Hercules is that they're not well known, even amongst Disney fans.

My DS would go nuts over seeing Yoda or Anakin walking around. And Queen Amidala for the girls....I just think that would be the most awesome character meal.

My DS would go nuts over seeing Yoda or Anakin walking around. And Queen Amidala for the girls....I just think that would be the most awesome character meal.

Star Wars character meal - would love that! Wonder if George Lucas would let them. I can only imagine the looks on my kids' faces as well as my husband's!

While I would like one, I wonder if Lucas will consent to openly allowing his characters to go and "dine" with people. Does some of Darth Vader's mystique get removed if he starts visiting tables while people eat? That may be the entire hangup with the Toy Story issue.

Well I know there is a buffet where I live that does do characters. I checked the list and Buzz is on it. Not sure why Disney can't seem to get "permission" from a company they own now.
