TP suggests doing MFSR later in the day, predicting a 90-minute wait at early afternoon.
Park opening is at 8am and you know I'll be there by 7 to be ready to get in a BG for Rise.
Should I queue up to head to GE and try for MFSR first thing, or will that effort cost me more time than it's worth?
It's a super busy day and the park is only open 8a-8p.
And, I have a relatively large group of 9 people but I don't necessarily need to keep everyone together, as not everyone is as crazy as I am.
What do you think? If we did try and RD, how early would you arrive for the 8am official park opening? 6:30? 7?

will you be at DHS in the evening. I would wait until the end of the night to do MFSR.
If you want to rope drop then be at the entrance no later than 7am

With the new BG process, they start letting people in about 45 minutes prior to official opening and lines for areas start to build immediately. Id say in the parking lot at 630 on an 8am opening isnt bad. Wouldnt need earlier than that.

As far as what to ride, depends on how bad you want to ride MFSR. If you get in the queue at RD youll likely be on within 30 minutes. We have done it and been on within 15.

And if you want to do RotR, keep in mind they are only guaranteeing through BG65 at the moment so a quick hint from someone who has pulled BG 7,7, and 12 in 3 tries. Do NOT be on Disney WiFi. Do NOT have the app open as the CMs will tell you. As soon as they start the announcement that the park is open, Now open the app and it will pop up immediately to join a BG. While everyone else already on the app waits for the system to refresh itself and show them as being in the park, itll drop you right into the BG screen. It has worked all 3 times I did it after a friend told me how to do it and he regularly pulls BGs under 15 every trip. Im not a huge Star Wars fan. I enjoy it but dont have that connection to it. And RotR, while not impressive to me as an attraction as far as reride sustainability, is very cool to do at least once.

Wow, thank you so much! Great advice. I have ridden MFSR a few times at DL already but some in my party haven't ever, so it is a big priority for the team, so to speak. I think we will use Uber from Coronado Springs, leaving @ 6:30am and give it a try first thing in the morning, as we will be fresher and more jazzed than after a long day of park touring in crowded conditions, though the suggestion to ride at night is a good one.

You have not had any problems with the app taking seemingly forever to boot up? You literally wait for the announcement and open it right then?

As long as you arent on disney wifi. Itll drop right in. The last time we did studios a couple of weeks ago I did it that way. My wife followed cm instructions with everyone else. While they were all looking around asking if it had come up for anyone. I opened mine and grabbed bg 7. Has worked twice now.

You can gain a great deal of valuable information on boarding groups (BGs) at the following thread:

Many people have differing opinions on the best way to get a group. Many people have commented on issues with the app loading properly in that 15 seconds of time as boarding groups get ready. In a situation where seconds matter people have very different views

As a follow up to this message, we did RD MFSR on Presidents Day. For an 8am park opening, we tapped into the park at 6:56am and were on MFSR at about 9:20am. So it was 1 hour 20 minutes from park/GE opening until we were on the ride. I don't think the waits got shorter that day unless you were doing SR.
