Mexican Riviera July 20, 08...Hola Amigos

Hello, everybody! Hope everyone enjoy the spring.

We're planning to drive to LA area for the upcomming Spring Break. Any recommendations on what to do besides DL and Universal Studio? Have anyone been to Renaissance Pleasure Faire in Irwindale? Is it kid-friendly? Yahoo! Travel suggested that The Getty Center and Griffith Observatory are the two most popular todos. Are they worth spending a day there?

Also, I'm thinking of bidding for a 3 or 4 star hotel in LA/Anaheim/Long Beach area through Priceline. Any recommended zones (or the zones to avoid) from local experts?

Thanks in advance!

Be careful booking an unknown hotel in Long Beach or LA. There are some areas to stay away from!! Maybe stay in Anaheim close to DL

The California Science Center in LA is running a Star Wars exhibit which is supposed to be cool in addition to their other things.

The Getty Center would be for kids older, may at least 10, observatory is fine... Some people love the Renissance Fair, don't go on a super hot day, good food, lots of people wathcing, may be fun!!:wizard: :wizard:

I am having Disney Cruise jitters again...I just am having a hard time justifying $6K+ for a 7 day vacation....I'm off to my 1st cruise in 3 days on RCCL, wish me luck!!

Hello everyone, My wife & I will be on this "Magic"ical cruise. We will be celebrating our 25th wedding anniversary on the 23rd of July. We know eeyorelvr10 & her family. We were on the same cruise in 2005. (Our first cruise) This will be our 2nd cruise ever. We can't wait!!! If anybody needs info about Disneyland just ask. I am a cast member in Tomorrowland, operating the Monorail.(most of the time)
We will be in stateroom: 2076 second dining.
I know the time will fly by, but it seems soo far away.
Looking forward to meeting you'll. If your at Disneyland look for me, I'll be the guy thats having a time of his life at the Monorail.(It's a boyhood dream come true) Oh, it is "THE YEAR OF A MILLION DREAMS"!:mickeyjum

Welcome to the bunch:banana:

It does seem so far away!

The plans are for us and the other couple and our children going to Disneyland a few days beforehand! Maybe we'll see you if you work right up until the cruise. We will be celebrating my dad's 68th birthday on the 20th:cheer2: Congratulations on your anniversary:dance3:

I will be looking for advice about Disneyland when we get a little closer to time. I finally got my book that I sent for from Disney, but I haven't looked at it yet.

Thanks for the warm welcome. Just for your information the Disneyland Monorail only has two stations to get on and get off at. The first is in Tomorrowland in DL, the other is at Disney's Downtown District, which is near Disneyland Hotel. We don't stop at the main gate or California Adventure. We cast members of the Monorail have to spiel that all day long. The other thing we always get questions about is: How did we move the station away from the DL Hotel? The station did'nt move, they moved the street to other side of the Monorail, the street that use to be near the Hotel, Now the ESPN Zone and Rainforrest Cafe are next to the hotel. Just a tidbit of info about our little world we call DISNEYLAND RESORT.

:welcome: Vern & Karen!

Quimby, thanks for the info! :thanks: I'll stay away from bidding for the long beach and LA areas then, as you never know what hotel pops up through PL. The science center looks interesting. :thumbsup2 I looked at their website. :surfweb: It seems that the Star War exhibit is so popular that you have to have either membership or IMAX tickets to get in (no problem, we're probably going to watch IMAX anyway).

I wish you have lots of fun with your upcoming cruise! :boat: :pixiedust: I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Glad to see everyone checking in.:thumbsup2 Vern I put your info on the first page, how old will your children be at time of the cruise ?????

Also, my family and I will be at DL next Tue and Wed, so will take the Monorail over to DD, will you be working so we can say "Hi"??????

Where are you from also....SanDiego here..

We are staying at the GC. We usually stay at the DL Hotel but we used our DVC pts this time to stay there.

I have been sooooo busy that this cruise or should I say that in double (back to back) will be here before I'm ready for it. Still waiting for the 2008 cruise pts to come out so we know how many pts it will cost us. They seem to be taking there sweet time on that :confused3

So looks like a few of us are going to be at DL over Spring Break but all at different times...thats a shame

WE will be there April 3-4 and Quimby you will be there from the 6th and II california ???? can't remember, will need to look back at the posts.

so everyone have a great day and I will check back later.....:hippie: peace out ...:)

Thank you for the "young man" commet. Most of the cast members I work with are "kids". We rotate every trip that is made of the trains. I might be greeter then up on the platform in Tomorrowland Station or at Downtown Disney. We have 2 trains running (Monorail Red & Monorail Purple). So, we dont stay at one place very long. Hope to see ya:wave: Vern

I have been watching the Travel Channel all day, and it was about Disney all day. Is Disneyland doable in one day? Which is more fun, Disneyland or California Adventure? We have a DS7 and DD17. DH says no way to the parks, but I have 18 months to work on him, so it very well could happen. Any info would be appreciated. Also, how far away is the port to DL? Just when I got Port Canaveral figured out, here I am going to Cali to learn something new!!!

Thanks in advance!

Well We always do a hopper pass when we go so we hit both parks. For little ones the MK is deffinatly the place to go. CA does not have as many rides as MK. If you have been to WDW than the MK there and the one here are pretty much the same except for a few things.

If we could only do one park than I would do the MK for sure :thumbsup2

Vern...we are leaving tomorrow so will come and say "HI" tomorrow night cause we will be hanging out at DTD and we start at the parks Tuesday. We are going to go to the movies and eat and walk around.

If we miss you than will come find you on Wed:thumbsup2

Everyone have a great day and be back soon.....:)

:wave2: All -

checking in - for those traveling this week - many wishes and pixiedust: pixiedust: for a safe and uneventful trip/journey -

Vern - are you all on holiday hours now? I know I know - don't say it - you KNOW how he is! Anyway, I was thinking of taking April on Thursday as that's her b-day but had a major :headache: moment and realized - its spring break! yeah!:guilty: that would mean major crowds - how sad! :guilty: Can't do that -so thinking of bribing her with something else - oh well.

All you visiting next year - parks "are doable" in one day but I agree with above DISser - the DL first! If your more roller coaster person - than you might want to do CA - or do that one first - it always closes early and then do DL. Much more compact than WDW so very doable. Ok - later dudes and dudettes! :wave2:

Yes, we are now in spring break mode DL is 8am til 12 midnight & CA is 10am til 10pm. It was very busy Mon. and will stay that way til next week. As cast members we blocked out of signing anyone in this whole month:sad1: . For the Frye7127you can do DL in a day just pick and choose the rides that your childern would like. If you can get your DH to swing it buy a 3 day Park Hopper pass. Then you can see things at DL one day then go to CA another day Then on the third day go do things that you missed on the other days. :thumbsup2 Disneyland & California Advernture are right across from each others main gate. We dont have any transportation that goes back and forth. You have to walk to the each main gate.:cool2:

Hi All,

I am back from my 1st cruise!!! It was great!! We had beautiful weather and a boat full of Spring Breakers!!! Loved all the conveniences of the ship but was ready to get off after 3 days...

Here is the news....I am pretty sure I am going to cancel our 7/20/08 Disney Cruise....After being in Mexico again it confirmed that I am just not excited about the Mexico ports, in addition my husband and I think that waiting a few more years will be better so our boys can be together in the Oceaneers Lab, plus $6K is just too much for a cruise to Mexico. I would pay $6k to cruise to Alaska or maybe the Caribben which I hope we will be able to do on Disney in 2010 or 2011...Please don't flame me!!! I have spent months researching, planning, creating Word Docs w/ Tips etc....so I am very torn on this...

I am waiting a few weeks before I cancel to digest everything but if anyone knows someone who may want to take over our Res. let me know, if this is even possible...Our price is $1000 less then the current pricing since we booked on the 1st day. 2 Adults and 2 kids (6 & 8), Cat 9, early dining, booked through Costco $6278 incl. insurance.

Sorry all my DIS Friends!!!:(

Sorry to hear that you have changed your mind but remember there is a difference cruising on DCL than other cruises. If I remember you were doing a cruise to Encinada were you not?

If so have been there done that and did it once and would not do it again. Very un aventfull. DCL is in a league of it's own. You can also just keep your ressies and pay no $$$ till the 60 day due date. That's what we do. We keep our $$$ in the bank and if something comes up where we can't go than we just get back our deposit and have lost nothing. Also if you save to $$$ and decide not to go than youll have lots of $$ in the bank. But it gives you all that time to decide to cancell or not if you stay torn.

But if going in 2008 means that you wont be able to go in 2011 or 2012(not 2010- 2011) than I would save for 2011. But if you do decide to go in 2008 than plan on being hooked and saving for 2010 cause I will gaurantee you will want to go again and again.

We are also going in 2011 so if you dont go this time than we will meet on the 2011 maiden voyage :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2 :thumbsup2

So what ever your decisison if you have trouble making it just don't till ya have to one year from know. Your ressie isnt going anywhere and you need not have to pay anymore than your deposit already paid.

Good luck on your decision.....
