Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Lorie, I was told anytime you start a diet or excercise program, it takes about 5 weeks to start showing results. Keep doing what your doing and don't get discouraged.

Thank you for posting this- I wasn't sure of a time frame and was getting discouraged. Of course, DH has lost a few pounds since starting this (and exercises half as much as I do) and I gained two pounds. Isn't that the way it always works?

Woo hoo- got the scanner to work! :hyper:

That's us down in the lower left corner :bitelip:
002-1.jpg

Sheryl- Yes, it was hard work- after four broken fingernails, raw hands, two blisters, and dirty stained fingernails (of those which remain), I finally finished those skillets! I used one of the skillets for sauteeing onions for our soyburgers we had for lunch today. :cool1: And I hope you feel better too.

Terry- Thanks for the drive info. I'm guessing we'll leave at 3:30 because DH is insisting on eating breakfast at the rest stop in Pensacola with the airplanes. He certainly is a creature of habit. If we left earlier than that we would be stopping too early for that particular rest stop.

Lorie, That is too funny!! You're BIG MAN hiding his face!!! :rotfl2: :lmao: Love that!!!

I'm glad you were able to get "grandmaw's" skillets usable again! Sauteed onions or mushrooms are definitely the way to go with soyburgers! When I was dieting on the WW's, that is the way I fixed them. Makes them pretty darn tasty!

Todd's not the only creature of habit. Our last trip was the 1st time we didn't stop at the Dairy Queen on Pensacola Bay, & it just didn't feel right!

Lorie, you are an evil genius--getting that scanner to work...:lmao:

Sheryl - Hope you're feeling better soon.

Lorie - I needed a good laugh and you gave me one with that photo!:rotfl2:

I feel so bad for Johnny. Forgot to mention, 10 minutes after stepson made the second W/D yesterday he called Johnny to "chat"...no heart, no conscience.:sad2:

Thanks for all the support you guys.:grouphug:

What's so funny about the picture is that everyone else is laughing in the picture, having a fun time...DH is practically crawling under the seat! :lmao: He looks the same way in the pictures from Splash Mountain, only he never let me buy those... :rotfl: Now that we have to baby-swap to go on the big rides, he won't ride alone, so only I ride the big ones now. He will go alone on Mission Space, however. I can't ride on Mission Space- spinning rides make me sick.

Lorie, you are an evil genius--getting that scanner to work...:lmao:
Where's that devil smilie? ;)

Sheryl, are you feeling any better?

Mary, Do you mean with my neck/back, fibro problems? Not really, the muscle relaxers & sleep meds help, but it's not curing it, that's for sure. I have an appt. with a new neurologist next week. If he doesn't have any answers for me, I think I'm going to try a pain management doctor.

I'm not feeling very comfortable with the rheumatologist dr. Even though the meds he's prescribed have helped some, the physical exam he did last week, made me feel extremely uncomfortable. I haven't mentioned it, cus I don't know quite how to explain it. He had me standing & put his body in front of me, in direct contact with mine. Then he reached around me to press on spots on my neck & back. He put his hand under my shirt on my back too. Not touching any inappropriate areas, but it just seemed weird. And then had me turn around & did the same thing standing behind me reaching around to my shoulder blades & the front of my hips, with his body touching mine. He did it on the last visit & I thought it was just me, but this last time, it was very very uncomfortable. Then I told DH & DD, and they thought I was overreacting. But now when I think about the next appt with that dr, I feel sort of sick.. Does any of this make sense? Sorry for going on & on.

Lorie- LOVE the pic!!! too funny! You look like you are having the time of your life with that great big smile glued on!

Oh, we always have to go to Cracker Barrell on the way on any vacation, including Disney! Otherwise, it just don't feel right.

OT alert!!!....

Ashton had her LAST official cancer checkup. She is now OFFICIALLY, accding to Childrens and her natn'l protocol, 5 years off chemo and a long term survivor. You'd think I boohooed enough in the past months over this but i was in the hallway in thier temp dept above the ER, tearin' up, like a crazy person:bitelip: . The nurses were smilin' at us and I am thankful we won't see them but every year till she is 18(although I LOVE them dearly). We waited 3 hours today for the doc, which USED to be typical when she was ON chemo. I was getting a little irritated but realized, "heck, we don't have to come here anymore, be thankful, Lori!" We were waiting so long b/c the cancer dept cannot tell patients that an appt cannot be made for 6 months-they take EVERYONE that needs them immediately. I never even thought of it that way. Who cared that we waited, some poor kid down the hallway is just starting thier battle.

Our oncologist was introducing a teenage kid, still in high school, to her world -of cancer kids. I asked him was he going to school for this and he said, "Definitely". He stayed for the whole appt. The onc made Ashton tell him why she was there and she said, "well, I had leukemia" and then the onc asked , " how long ago?" and Ash said,"hmm, almost 8 years". The onc said, "THIS is our goal, THIS is what we want to see, for every kid". Then I was all teary. After being done with the official appt, our onc was walking away and i just said, "hey dr Gardner, Thank you" and she said "for what?" and i shrugged my shoulders and motioned to Ash. I beleive, with all my heart, whether you beleive in God or not, that He works through people, whether they know it or not. God worked through her and all those nurses who gave her every ounce of chemo she needed.

:lovestruc I called back to tell that kid that I am impressed that he has decided at such a young age, to go into such a gutwrenching field. I hope he is a hematologist/oncologist in times where cancer is a much less frequent or nonexistent thing- maybe he will cure it or give vaccines to prevent it.

Lori

Oh and we are not going to New York:(

No one really knows, but DH is having job changes(can you guess what that means?):worried: but surpisingly, he is not worried. I am amazed at his disposition about this b/c he normally would have been very agitated. He has a sense of peace that something /someone else will take him on and it will be a GOOD thing and maybe what he has always planned to do. I just hope that it doesn't mean a move. Of course, that would depend on $$$$ offers. It will take a good bit to talk us into the north:laughing: , which is where the company he works for is based. He has to take into consideration that WDW is further:wizard: (um... yeah!) too. Plus coming home every so often.
We had finally decided to stay here and move somehwere else in our area. Wouldn't THAT be ironic, now we feel convicted to stay. Well, we'll know more in the upcoming months and by the end of the year. Right now, his load is basically the same, but he can see it getting lighter(YAY!-b/c he has been working 60-75 hours a week:headache: ) and he is salary.(which I think is unfair) and we are not going to sell till we know what is happening.
Vent over, I needed that off my shoulders:hug:

Lori

Sheryl, can your daughter or husband go with you on your next appointment and stay with you during the examination?

Ask his nurse to attend the apointment with you. If it is a female nurse, she'd know, I promise.

Good morning NOLA gals!

Today is Johnny's birthday and he's spending it with Kyle in Baton Rouge, they have a double header. I couldn't go, kinda feel a migraine coming and want to feel well enough to go out to dinner with my guys tonight.

Sheryl - That creeped me out, I'd definitely have someone go with you into the examination room.

Lori - That is wonderful news about Ashton!!!!! I'll keep y'all in my prayers and hope that everything works out with DH.

kmores, nice to meet you:)
You too! still trying to get all the real names straight!!
Woo hoo- got the scanner to work! :hyper:
That's us down in the lower left.
great pic..never seen one and probably never will! one of my biggest fears is elevators (and tornados since Wizard of Oz at 4)...dd is trying already to convince dh and I to go on it in November:scared1: ....unless dh goes, she is going to have to wait until we are with a group, or make some friends there and let THEM take her!!
Thank you for posting this- I wasn't sure of a time frame and was getting discouraged. Of course, DH has lost a few pounds since starting this (and exercises half as much as I do) and I gained two pounds. Isn't that the way it always works?
yeah there is a cartoon where the woman only loses weight in her chest and the man goes from the same size as her to a stick....sigh...hang in there and stay encouraged!! (remember it's how your clothes fit, not the scale! and muscle weighs more than fat!)

reminds me of this case in Florida where this girl got 3 years cause she and her friends stole money from a 9 year old selling Girl Scout cookies at Wal Mart. NO remorse whatsoever. they said they were p'd off because "they had to pay the money back." Kind of scary the attitude these kids have these days... hang in there and I hope everything goes well with this!

It makes perfect sense..I am sad they didn't take it seriously. I would ask a female friend to come with you and I would also ask to have the nurse there. I am so sorry for you and your pain and hope things will ease for you!

YAY Lori!!! I am so excited for you and Ashton and your family!! :cool1: :yay: your post really touched me and made me cry (in a good way!

good luck with your husband's job situation and decisions to be made!! you are also in my prayers that everything turns out right and perfect, even if it does involve a move or other things - that it will be the perfect situation for you and your family![/QUOTE]

Good morning NOLA gals!

Today is Johnny's birthday and he's spending it with Kyle in Baton Rouge, they have a double header. I couldn't go, kinda feel a migraine coming and want to feel well enough to go out to dinner with my guys tonight.

Happy Birthday to Johnny! and mercies to you that you will have a restful day and that the migraine will go away so you can enjoy the evening with your guys!!

think I hugged everyone - if not, here's one for you! I am a Southern girl - that's what we do!

ate real food last night for the first time since Tuesday....still hoping to not get backlash from that today but so far so good. actually I am feeling hunger pangs so things might be back on track! dd went to Hammond for the weekend again, so dh and I ran around looking at cars. I REALLY want the Honda CRV  not sure we can afford two cars...plus, he gets the car with the better gas mileage unless we can afford to replace TWO cars...(oh please oh please!!!)

then on a whim he said "let's go to the movies". we went to see S & the City...we used to watch it when we had HBO. popcorn:: It was good but long and sad...felt like a 10 hour movie but it was awesome! the only show left was at 10:40pm (when I am usually GOING to bed!) so we went and ate at Pasta Bravo then went to the movie....

Hey y'all!

We had a play date with a good friend in Mandeville today who has a 2 year old boy. He and DD were so stinkin' cute playing together in his kiddie pool and then ate pizza for lunch and had petit fours for dessert. They even hugged and kissed when it was time to say goodbye. She's pooped now (so am I) so hopefully she'll sleep good tonight!

Lori- That's great news about Ashton! :) I teared up when I read your post too! And I hope everything works out with your DH's job.

Sheryl- I agree with having a friend or a nurse there if you feel uncomfortable during the next visit.

Kathy- Have fun tonight and Happy Birthday to Johnny! :bday:

Kristina- Glad you're feeling better and sounds like you had a fun date night last night!

Did anyone else read the post from the Diser in Iowa (douglisa) whose house flooded? Boy, I could totally relate to her post and it brought back sad memories! I feel so bad for her and all I could do was tell her it will be alright. :(

Hey y'all,

Lori, GREAT NEWS about Ashton!!!! :cool1:

Kristina, Glad you're feeling better. Sounds like you had a nice evening.

Thanks for the support on the dr issue. I'm thinking of not going back to him, if I can get the meds from a gp & maybe the new neuro. If I have to go back, someone is going to be in that room with me! DH did offer to go with me.

Lorie, Glad you & Sienna had a fun day!

Kathy, Happy Birthday to Johnny!!!

Lorie,I can't beleive you were over HERE!!! Did you go to thier home or to a place(like the water spouts)???

Lori

We went to her house. We did drive on the lakefront to kill some time because we got to Mandeville a bit early (it only took 40 minutes from my house!) and drove past a park or something that had water spouts. I must say, Mandeville looked so nice and inviting! Very green, lots of trees- it seems relaxing over there.
