Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

Hey all!

Terry, I am so jealous, I hope yall have a great time!!!

I just read that New Orleans will not have any shelters if a Cat 3 or higher is going to hit the city.

Thoughts?

Morning ya'll. This is just a quick post and run for me. The kids have dentist appointments this morning at 8:00. I know, I know, who would do that to the kids on summer vacation? Me, I guess. Kendall is getting her bottom braces on this morning and they like to do that first thing. Kelsie just has a cleaning and Colin is getting sealants on his permanent teeth so no cavities for him. Oh, what a fun filled day I have in store for us.

I need to get the troups moving because we're heading across the Causeway this morning.

Have a great day!

Good Morning!

Sienna will also be going to the dentist tomorrow (her first visit  ) and I am terrified! :scared1: I have a dentist phobia and I really don't want to project that on to her, but I'm freaking out about it already!

No shelters for Cat 3 or higher? Well, after what happened last time, I guess that would be a good thing. I don't even want to think about hurricane season. :sad2:

Lorie.. hope all goes well for you guys at the appt. If I remember correctly Jack's first appt. was really just counting teeth, just a quick look at his mouth and a discussion on oral care and baby's food, bottle etc. Cant really do much else, unless ya have a super easy going monkey and honestly who at two is going to be that way LOL!

Terry and Mary Im super jealous, wish we were heading off to WDW this week too! I need a vacation so bad. I was supposed to head off to the inlaws for a cpl of weeks, they have a huge place on a lake in Al, but i just cant stomach paying a fortune in gas. It would prob cost me around 400.00 for a trip to see them. And thats if gas prices dont get much higher. I swear im going to buy a Civic lol!

And on to all you cry babies.... LOL I cry when I hit Main Street for the first time. You all should have seen me when we went and got Jack's first time to WDW button last yr. I was a mess. I also cry when I see the gates for the frist time.

Jenny, that is me too, I usually cry at first sight and then am just mopey and depressed on the way out of the gates when heading home. DH laughs at me every time b/c he expects it. This year, with my brother, he just thought I was a nut.

I love seeing those purple signs on the way there. One year, Ashton saw that WDW was east, and we were on the on ramp which was a loop and the van's compass said we were headng west and she threw a fit-"we're going the wrong way!"-until we turned east-then all was peaceful.:lovestruc

Someone told me yesterday, and I hope it is just a rumor that is false, that gas was going to get even higher by the end of the year-anyone heard this? I mean, isn't $ a gallon enough already?

I was terrified about Kurt jr's first appointment, especially since I knew he had cavities anyway. I cannot stress this enough....go to a pediatric dentist, not just a dentist that sees kids too. It made the world of difference. We took him to a regular dentist first and she really had no business working with kids. She basically told me to fill his cavities we would have to hold him down

We go to Dr Jason Parker. He is AWESOME. SUPER NICE. His staff is very friendly, especially the payment dept, really willing to work with me. He really seems to have the kids health at heart vs $$$.

IDK about that. I mean last year everyone swore it would be $4 a gal by summer 07, and then when it didn't everyone swore it would be that high by Christmas. My mom, who really doesn't want me to go, said by our trip in Feb we will be paying $6 a gal. I mean I know it is going to go up, but that high by then....doubtful.

Pretty much. She has never been to WDW or DL. She has no clue about it, yet she insists that Aiden is too young. I keep trying to tell her that when we worked there Kurt jr had a great time. So yeah I keep hearing gas will be $6 a gal and Aiden is too young, it is too expensive, how will you be able to get around the parks with your thyroid problem(causes fatigue)...etc.

I just keep saying "Ma, it's Disneyworld!":bitelip:

Hi ladies - Well today was DD's last day of school; she had a party and Honor Roll Assembly. DD received a Certificate for obtaining High Honor Roll for all 4 Quarters. :yay: I am so proud of her! This afternoon we are heading to her 3rd grade pool party. :cool2: I am a little sad too because as I stated earlier to you guys I am 90% sure about my job transfer to Jackson. Therefore, this will be DD's last time hanging with her friends. :sad1:

Whew, I am finally starting to sort out our clothes now... This is going to be interesting. ;)

I agree with not offering shelters for Cat. 3 or higher. After Katrina I would hope that no one stays!

I have a Dentist apptmt tomorrow to get a capl. I dislike going as well.

later.

LOL my Uncle kept trying to be a negative nelly about my trip last yr with Jack. Actually told me it was stupid for us to go when Jack was this young..... I had been several times , but just kept waiting for Jack to go.
I just finally came back with I insist you keep your thoughts on MY trip to yourself. We are very excited and dont need you trying to make us feel bad about our decisions. I never heard another word. God Rest his sweet soul, he has just a bit of a "debbie downer", but def good man all around. Ya know now that I think about it we had LOTS of folks telling us that.. What the heck??!!

Note to self never comment on anyone's vacations they have planned!

Just back from the zoo! Much better visit this time- no school trips, low crowds, and no stinging caterpillars! We had lots of fun. I love having a membership because I don't feel bad leaving after only two hours (just when the heat starts to really kick in).

Oh, thank you so much for posting this! We are going to Dr Jason Parker tomorrow- our pediatrician recommended him. It's good to hear that someone else had a good experience with him. Unfortunately there are no pediatric dentists on DH's dental plan, so we have to pay OOP for him. It's worth it though if it is better for Sienna.

I'm worried about the gas prices too for our Sept trip, but even if it goes up it will still be cheaper to drive than fly. I figure even if it continues to climb, it would only add ~$50 to the gas budget total, which in the scheme of things isn't really that bad. And nothing is keeping me away from my trip- even $$$$ gas prices!

You know, it just bugs the crap out of me when people say little ones are "too young" for WDW and that "they'll never remember it".

They don't remember birthdays or holidays either, but we still celebrate those, right? Vacation should be no different- celebrating fun family time together. And they still have fun while they're there, right? Just like when they go to the park, the zoo, etc.

I haven't gotten too many comments (fortunately) about our bringing Sienna so far. Probably because DH and I went so often before she was even born, it should be no surprise that we would continue to go, even with toddler in tow. Heck, we still went when I was pregnant- she was trained in utero! (gotta start the Disney training early ;) )

okay guys, help me feel good about my decison. I called the SPCA to come retrieve 5 kittens from my back yard garden. They have been there all weekend. I feel bad because we could not find the mom; I wanted them to catch her too but to no avail. I think i will call them back and ask for a cage so they can try and catch her too. What do you think?

I think you did good- that is the best option possible. Those kittens won't fare well out there. Hopefully the momma can get caught as well.
