Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - Part II

I was in line for crawfish at Rouse's for two hours....:lmao:

I was in line @ the crawfish place on Behrman for 30 mins. as well. They were so good though.

My DD's Easter basket includes:
Candy of course
Disney's Enchanted Video
Webkinz
Swimsuit

Easter baskets:
a few mixed types of candy
Dove chocolate bunny(yum)
outdoor play stuff for our upcoming camping trip(Target brand ring toss and those paddles with velcro and a ball!)
bike helments(yah, we don't have 'em,shame on me, what kind of mom AM I!!!!-we used to but they outgrew them, never replaced them from a couple years ago):confused3

Had "enchanted" in the cart and put it back. It was starting to feel more like Christmas and I don't want it to be that way. We were always just happy with candy, but I don't give much of that soo, anyway...

Glad Sienna's birthday went well. I thought of you yesterday as I was at Whole Foods in the early evening.

April-okay, we just gotta' make a date and do it!! Poll: weekend or weekday?

me: weekday, even if it is late, but not on a Wednesday

Gotta' go get my ham-see ya!! Happy Easter!

Ok I watched Enchanted, not going to buy it....can't sit through another musical number with ROACHES!!! EWWWWWWWW!

okay I absolutely hate ROACHEs...what part is it so I can turn my head?

Ok after she becomes human, she goes home with McDreamy(that is Patrick Dempsey's Grey's Anatomy character) The next morning she decides to clean his place...so she calls for her woodland creature friends and a swarm of roaches come out of the bathroom drain....:scared: :scared: :scared: :scared: . Teh appear a few more times during that musical number, when it is over you won't see them again. :wizard:

Can I be included if I am a former New Orleanian?? Moved to Orlando in 2006 but still consider NOLA to be home. Heard ya'll had some bad weather out there, hope everyone faired well.

Hi to a fellow former New Orleanian who is now a Floridian! :yay:

:welcome: To the NOLA thread!

My parents, family and friends all still live in NOLA. I've been in Florida for many years - first in Tampa and now in Boca Raton.

Hope you come back and post often with us.

That is another reason it went back on the shelf. I remembered the ROACH part and figured it wasn't worth my $15 on something that is my biggest scare(more than snakes, more than fire). I can, however, copy it when my kids want to watch it on pay per view. That will be about what I will be willing to do. That movie was soooo cute, and would be one of my favorites , if it weren't for the roaches. I read somewhere that 3 special cameos were in it-the actresses/singers that voiced Ariel(Jodi Benson was McDreamy's secretary), Belle(Paige O'Hara) and Pocahontas (Judy something or other). Don't know which characters were played by the other 2. Found that CUTE!!

Here is my Easter Cake for tomorrow's crawfish boil.

First off this cake is so yummy. I baked a little extra for me to try! It is a lemon cake with raspberry filling, topped with lemon curd buttercream.
It was fairly easy, just time consuming. I took a DH white mix(x2) and added lemon juice for some of the water and replaced 1/4 c of the water for milk. 4 egg whites(which was handy because it left me yolks to make the lemon curd). I also added lemon zest and a dash of almond extract. I baked it in two of the oval pans...I think it was the 8 in and 10 in ones.

The filling is raspberry jam(seedless). Frosting is lemon curd buttercream. I made Alton Brown's lemon curd and set it in the fridge to cool. Then I made Wilton's buttercream, except I added a stick of butter(unsalted). I took a whole batch and folded in the lemon curd. Oh my it is so good. Not too sour, but not too sweet either. I decorated with the plain buttercream.

I am so proud of myself. This is my FIRST tiered cake! :woohoo: AND my drop flowers came out so much better this time.

Hi y'all,

I planned on commenting on all the chat first, but was just in awe of Mrs. Kreamer's cake! :goodvibes

We had a nice day yesterday, even though it all revolved around yardwork. My DD & SIL came over. SIL installed his version of an automatic watering system for our landscaping. He put soaker hoses under the mulch in the beds along the house, set up sprinklers for the areas closer to the street. He hooked up automatic timers to everything. He still needs a few more things for it, but hopefully this will keep me from having to haul hoses all over the yard & keep everything alive.

Bob also paid his BIL to clean our yard, pool & scrub the patio furniture. We are really bummed out about that. We had bought a gorgeous (and way too expensive) Teak patio set last year. DH read everything he could find on how to keep it looking great. Teak oil was recommended, so last year I rubbed on several coats of the stuff. Well over the winter, mildew grew all over the set!! Researching on the net, this week, DH finds that if you are going to put teak under a covered patio: Don't put oil on it, it will mildew! Now they tell us?! So we had a guy come out & pressure wash the house & the furniture this week. The mildew didn't come off! So he had his BIL come scrub it & it looks better. ( I had tried scrubbing one chair, but I was just hurting too much from that to do it all.) Now we will try sealing it. Frustrating!

Anyway,we bought seafood po-boys for lunch & since it was such a beautiful day, it was nice to be outside.

Lorie, HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO LITTLE MISS SIENNA!!!!!

So glad y'all had a good party!

Everyone, on the Meet what are we planning? Girl's only meet on April 12th, as previously discussed? Or have we scrapped that idea?

I can't really plan a zoo meet very far ahead of time. I don't have Alexis on the weekends & we don't get a very accurate school schedule until the beginning of the month.

And EEEWWW! Dancing Roaches! I considered buying it for Alexis, but know I don't know!

I usually do Easter baskets for our 3 little neices. But this year I found some Children's gardening sets in a little bag & a huge set of Disney Princess PEZ holders & candies. I'll probably pick up a few more candies & put it all in the gardening bag. Older kids in our family, get an Easter Card with money.

If case I don't get back here,

HAPPY EASTER, Y'ALL!!!

Stephanie- that cake is too cute! Really beautiful!

It makes me even more ashamed of my cracked, deflated mango cheesecake. I'm going to try to make some whipped cream and hide some of the flaws and bring it to the reunion anyway. If the whipped cream doesn't work, I'll just put it on the table with the rest of the desserts and not lay any claim to it ("Oh, I don't know who brought that ugly cheesecake....:rolleyes1 ") :rotfl:

I'm up for April 12th still. I'd also be up for a weekday zoo meet- and I could probably do it at the last minute if need be.

Sheryl- I'm jealous of your soaker hoses- you're going to love them! Dragging the hoses around the yard in the heat and the mosquitoes is the pits!

The roaches in Enchanted didn't bother me. :confused3 Then again, I am the official roach-killer in this house. DH screams like a little girl when he sees them. :rotfl:

Have a HAPPY EASTER everyone! :flower3:

I know everyone having the same day open will be almost impossible, but the 12th is not good for me as I am working:guilty: BUT most weekends are out for me since I work them. But occassionally I have a weekend free for ME!!! o-well. Hope to meet some of you one day!! It may take us having to meet in WDW after all!! Since that is our common tie!

Anyway, I think it would be cool if we all need to meet (for those who haven't yet!!) and hope it works out for the most of us.

LOVE the cake, it is so pretty and as I love lemon anything, thanks for the recipe! I will try that one one day. I love lemon curd, but had no idea it was egg yolks:eek: . Gues i'll have to try and curtail the curd the next time we do tea!

happy Easter!!

Lori

Hello all. I've got a few minutes before we head over to the inlaws for our Easter celebration. We always have a big party on Easter Saturday so everyone can come. Mark has eight brothers and sisters and all together we have 23 kids. So it's always a BIG party when we all get together. Lots of games, food and fun today. We are having the perfect weather to be outside all day.

Mrs. Kreamer all I can say is Wow, what a cake! You did an awesome job and should be very proud of yourself.

I can't believe that little Miss Sienna is already 2. Times flies for sure. Happy Birthday.

I think the weekend weather should be great so everyone enjoy all the crawfish boils and Easter celebrations with your loved ones.

Stephanie - That cake looks amazing, great job!:thumbsup2

I was supposed to be going to Houma today for Kyle's baseball game but unfortunately the work I have to do seems to be multiplying. Everything I do turns up yet another problem that I don't know how to fix. I am starting to feel like I'm never going to get my head above water. My new employee won't be starting until 4/15.:sad2: So sorry to vent, have a great day everyone.

Happy Saturday!

Lorie, I love the new pic of Sienna in your siggie!!! Too cute!

Kathy, Sorry the work is getting the best of you! That's a long time to wait for your new employee!

I'm a little bummed too. Alexis (and her Mom & Dad) were going to come to my Aunt's house for Easter. But Chris's grandmother decided to come in & her Uncle is having something. Because my other SIL's Mom is sick, we won't be getting together with them either. So that means no little kids to see on Easter! :sad1:

Hope everyone has a great weekend & again, Happy EASTER!

Sheryl

Lorie - LOVE the pic of Miss "Hollywood Sienna"!!!!

Sheryl -I know it seems like an eternity until my new employee starts but she's doing "the right thing" by giving her current employer two weeks notice. Then her husband is having surgery the following week so we agreed to just wait another week. At this point one more week isn't much to me.

We haven't had any "little ones" for Easter since Kyle was young, I really miss that too.:sad1:

Happy Easter Everryone...We are going to BR to my sister's today.

Lori - Happy Birthday to Miss Sienna. How was the reunion? I hope you were able to enjoy yourself.

Stephanie - I love your cake. I am impressed.

Well i have to start getting ready for church. Enjoy your day!

To all of my NOLA friends -

Wishing you all and your families a wonderful day!

We got last minute tickets to the Hornets game last night - my first time ever! What a great time!!!!

Here's a link to the Pineapple Bake:

http://www.foodnetwork.com/food/recipes/recipe/0,,FOOD_9936_24448,00.html

Here's the cake:

Pina Colada Cake

1 box white or yellow cake (whichever you prefer)
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 can cream of coconut drink mix
1 can crushed pineapple (any size depending on how much you like pineapple) or leave it out if you don't like it
1 tub cool whip
shredded coconut

Cook the cake according to package directions in a 13x9 inch pan. While it's still hot, combine the cream of coconut and condensed milk in a bowl. Poke holes all through the cake and pour the mixture all over it.

Put the cake into the fridge and let it chill. When the cake is cold drain the crushed pineapple and spread it over the cake. Then top with the cool whip and sprinkle with coconut.

KATHY - this cake was SOOO good...Everyone loved it. I was able to bring a small piece home too. :thumbsup2
