Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 09/2009

Hey y'all,

Cara, Prayers for Logan! :flower3: Hoping it's not a fracture! Congrats on the new furniture!

Lori, I hope you can find the right church for your family! I know how much you loved the old one.

Kathy, Feel better girlfriend!

Julie, My SisIL had them & it was not good! I pray that it clears up very soon! Most likely came on due to stress & I know you have lots of that!:grouphug::flower3:

We are getting ready to spend a bunch of money on our pool. :sad2: It needs to be replastered, but we also need new tile. We were going to just do that this year, but we are being told that changing the decking later would likely damage the tile. We are in a pickle, not ready to spend all of that, but don't want to ruin new stuff in a year or so.

Thanks Sheryl!

Have y'all considered a vinyl liner for your pool? We had one put in a gunnite pool we had in our first house and we loved it so much that in the 3 pools in houses we've had since, including this one, we've always had vinyl liners. They are sooo easy to keep clean. My MIL and BIL have had to have their pools replastered twice and it cost $$$$. A vinyl liner lasts a long time. Just a thought...

STerry-how did your last day go? I know those can be ROUGH:hug:

Rained all day today.

Lori

Thanks for all the good thought everyone. Logan has no fracture, but a severe elbow sprain. The blood curdling screaming, swelling, tenderness, and warm sensation is why I thought he fractured it, as did the doctor and we were all pleasantly surprised when his bones weren't cracked somewhere. Logan at first was a little dissapointed since he wanted to get a cast this time (both of his other breaks were ones that they didn't cast, shoulder and elbow) but then he remembered that it would have meant the rest of the year with no PE and he would not be able to try out for the circus, so he was happy. Still no PE for a week. That is his favorite subject according to him, for me that would have been cause to celebrate. BUT

We went to a new doctor in our practice. First she asked why no ER visit and I said because his arm wasn't deformed so I didn't think it would be needing to be set and could wait. Besides, I have insurance that I can't afford to use more than once a month for those type of visits...

THEN...

She asked Logan what happened. Perfect question and one that is normal to ask.
Logan answered: "My brother pushed me out of a chair and I hit the ground wrong."
That is a good and accurate answer.

The doctor heard "My mother pushed me out of a chair ..."
I heard "My brother pushed me out of a chair..."

Then the doctor asked me why I pushed him out of the chair?!?!!!!!:scared1::scared1:
Thankfully Logan came to my rescue and told her I didn't push him. Good thing I didn't mention Spencer falling on his head last week as the main reason I didn't take him to the ER.

Glad Logan's elbow isn't broken- I had one 3 or 4 years ago and it still hurts sometimes.
That doctor- I guess they have to be careful but come on she seems a little anxious to jump on a parent caused injury.

Cara- just what you need this month, social services. Ugh. Some have thier ears perked like puppy dogs for that kinda stuff.

I saw a dead "palmetto bug" today outside my garden. I had the paraqnoid twitch (looking for them)the rest of the day. I guess the Disney bug terminator is doing his job.
If life continues this way, I may just GIVE my house to Lorie. At least Todd can appreciate the critters. Why, oh why are they the only creatures that can survive a nuclear attack??? What was God thinking?? I can't even watch Enchanted during that scene or Wall-E, whose best bud is a roach. ugh
I am seriously praying i see no more- and I will be an indoor girl. I thought we'd love being by the woods, but it ain't Louisiana!

I found out today that the HUGE plants around the pool(they are about 20 feet high and 10 feet wide) are Bird of Paradise. I thought they were Banana trees. it's gonna kill my MIL, but they are GOING. I am glad it is not a banana tree though, b/c I read roaches love them.

Kristina just called so i gotta go!

Lori

I totally agree that doctors have to be careful. I so agree in questioning the child and that is why I never coach them on how to answer or speak for them once they can speak. I also can see how you can get brother and mother confused, they rhyme. But ack! I have to admit I really missed our regular doctor today since he knows my kids and what trouble they can get into.

I am kinda feeling bad for Fletcher though. He feels really bad because he was the cause of both of the last two accidents. The longer stories for both. Spencer took Fletchers sleeping bag up to the top bunk and they were playing a game of tug of war for it when Spencer came flying down with a good tug. Then he set up the folding chair for a good view in front of the TV when Logan helped himself to the seat and instead of just sitting on him, he decided to dump him out. Really bad decisions on his part and he knows it. He doesn't even know I feel bad for him, but I think that it is best to let him stew in his guilt for a while.

So much going on with all of you, I apologize in advance if I overlook anyone.

Rie's mom - shingles - yuk for you. I hope it isn't drawn out & painful. DS's first grade teacher suffered with it for most of that school year. Sounds like you need to get back to the camp & chill ASAP.

portocall - If that's #3, does this mean you can take a break from ER's & Dr's offices for a little while? So glad it wasn't a fracture needing casting. Don't feel bad about the inquisition. We tease DSis all the time that she probably would've been questioned a LONG time ago if she didn't personally know / work for the Docs they've had to see for various accidents & traumas. It just comes with the territory of having active boys (or in her case 4 kids). Give an extra hug to L, because neither case sounds malicious.

Lori - 20x10 Birds of Paradise??? Holy cow! OK - we have GOT to figure out a way for you to save them! I agree about thinning / cutting them back from encroaching upon the screen house. Did your pest control guy give you any tips like sealing off possible entryways? Would the trick of stuffing your weepholes with steelwool help? I hate to see you have to pay $$$ when it's something you can DIY.

Kat - great news on the monitoring results! Keep us posted on the cardio visit.

MsTerry - Take some time to enjoy the weekend & de-stress from those last couple of days. I bet they were emotionally exhausting.

Y'all have a great weekend. Anybody headed to NOMA for the end of the Dreams exhibit?

Julie, Thanks! You know we have heard of that, but didn't know anyone that had it. We have a kidney shaped pool, so I don't know if it works for that? I'll start researching that.

How are you feeling?

Lori, 20 x 10 Birds of Paradise!!! Why do you want them gone? They are going to be beautiful when blooming! Oh we get our first warm days & I already had one of those huge roaches in the house! I will start spraying today! Did you post anymore pics of the house on FB? I'll go look. I want to see the plants you're talking about.

Cara, I'm so glad Logan's arm isn't broken! Yay!

Kathy, When is your cardio visit? How are you feeling?

Terry, I hope the last day of driving went okay! Glad you won't have to do that anymore!!!:wizard:

I have an appt with an ortho. doc on Monday. My knee pain isn't going away, my therapist & neuro. said it sounds like a miniscus problem. I am absolutely scared to death of an injection into a joint. Years back when Bob broke his leg, his Dad helped me get him back & forth to the dr. While there my FIL mentioned to the dr, that his elbow had been bothering him. The dr offered to give him an injection on the spot. Big Bobby was the toughest, strongest man I have ever known! Really, I saw this man lift the front of a 30 foot boat with his back! When he got that injection and I saw that man's eyes tear up & his face turn white, I swore I would never have an injection in a joint! :scared1:

TGIF & the weather is beautiful!:cool1:

Cara – I’ve been praying for Logan, very glad it was not fractured. Extra hugs for Fletcher.

Monique & Sheryl – I go to my primary doc this afternoon for my cardio referral. Still having frequent palpitations. I’m actually getting used to them now it’s been almost three weeks.

Sheryl – I had injections in my hip a few years back and they were not pleasant, praying you don’t need any.

TGIF!!!

Thanks guys for the concern...yesterday was emotional however I really enjoyed spending this last day with them. They all took me out last night for a nice dinner at Shaplelys and I was given a very generous massage gc from Earth Savers!!!

I drove home early this morning and have completed a few errands already.

Sheryl I'm praying you won't need injections.

Kathy keep us posted.

Awe poor Fletcher :(

Julie I'm sorry you're dealing with shingles...yes you need more rest and relaxation.

Sealing off what type of entry ways? Like holes? We puttied a few spots we saw, but there aren't many. I have no idea what a weephole is???Tell me and I will stuff steel wool in them!
We've always payed a bugman, so this isn't new to us. he wporks for the Magnolia golf course as a pest control guy and for some reason this makes me feel better. has anyone seen roaches on the golf course??? I ahve never seen a roach at Disney except by the water in DtD.

Yes, I thought they were overgrown banana trees but 2 people have confirmed they are Bird of Paradise. both also told me they never should have been planted so close to the screen enclosure. I took a pic from inside-it is raining. I may go run out and take one for you all and post on FB. I started hacking at it a week ago out of boredon. I thought we could keep it when it is weeded back, but the landscape guy says they are past it and TOO big and over grown. getting a screeen repaired or replaced is more costly than taking them down. There are some pretty palms mixed in with the bird of paradise he says he can try to save- but then we are awaiting his estimate. We may just do it ourselves- but poor Paul would be doing a bunch on his own and it would take months. I am gonna post pics of all the landscaping overgrown- it is TOO much to deal with.

I called my MIL about the Bird of Paradise, cuz she LOVES them and was shocked at the size too!

L - Weepholes are the gaps in the bottom-most run of brick. They sort of look like the brick layers forgot to mortar one edge of the brick. I'm not sure if they have an equivalent with siding or hardiplank.

Boo to the overgrown stuff, but I hear you on not wanting to shell out $$$$ for screen repair/replacement. So many people don't have a concept of how quickly plants will reach mature sizes and the damage they can wreak. I sure hope you can salvage at least some of them. Of course, getting rid of any plants that are too close to the house / pool will definitely help eliminate harborage sites for those critters.

Kat - Hope all goes well this afternoon. Thinking about you.

Terry - Sounds like your crew took good care of you. You'll obviously be missed.

shovan - Hope the knee problem isn't too serious. I know those injections work, but boy do they sound scary!

we have stucco so we will check that out as he is cutting back the bushes

OMG I just had the scare of my life...I picked up Kodi from the vet in which she was groomed and received about 4 booster shots. Well by the time we got home she was panting so loud, rubbing her head all over the carpet. So after picking her up and looking closer at her I realized my babies eyes were swelling and she was itching. Dang she was having an allergic reaction to the SHOTS.... I drove so fast back to the Vet where they gave her 2 shots, benadryl and something else. They are unsure of which vaccine she's allergic to because they were given together. Now her file is labeled as being allergic to these so she can receive the preventative meds before the vaccines are given or we can give them to her individually to see which she's allergic to. She's sleeping beside me now on the couch. I"M NOT LETTING HER OUT OF MY SIGHT TONIGHT!

Lori - wow that is way too much for your DH to do all by himself. I too would get rid of those Birds of Paradise.

Terry,
We had that exact same problem with our dog. The first time it happened, I freaked out too. But she recovered quickly and with no ill effects. They put the note in her file and gave her the pre-shot every visit from then on. Until one time, they decided to try to see if she'd grown out of the allergy. Well, she hadn't, so back we went for the antihistamine shot. Again, she recovered very quickly and didn't have any lasting problems from.

I know how scary it was, but she'll be okay.

Terry - I can imagine how scared you must have been, hope she's OK now.

I have an appt with a cardiologist two weeks from today.

Our first pool was kidney shaped and the liner worked fine. Talk to someone who does vinyl lined pools-they'll probably have more experience.
The pain is not as bad with shingles this time. When i had it 12 years ago-OUCH!
I'm sorry about your knee. Hopefully, the injection will help. Ask the doc to give you something to relax before the injection.

 I hope Kodi is doing better.

Lori- if possible, get a landscape guy to thin out the bird of paradise. Those things cost a fortune. He may be able to break up the clump and they could be used throughout your landscape. Also, it might be a nice ice breaker with the neighbors to offer them a clump. Sheryl is right- the BOP will be breathtaking when it blooms.

 I had this problem with Anabelle back in August. It was scary!! I'm glad both you and Kodi are okay now.

Lori - Can you bring me a bird of paradise clipping? :rolleyes1

I have not been keeping up with my forums this week AT ALL. I slept at 9p on both Tuesday and Wednesday and last night I went to bed at 7:30! :faint:

Anabelle ate the nose off my Mr. Bingle. :sad2:
