Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Lori - Sorry you're still not feeling well. Yes, I have the master contact list, so if you pm me your new e-mail address I'll update it and forward it to everyone on the list.

Umm....I think some of my info has changed too since the list was last sent out.

Jamie, I had to laugh at your post. That so sounds like something my grandmother would have done:lmao:

Ug. It was so embarassing and obnoxious. You'd think the woman always touting manners and etiquette would know better than to keep crinkling those dang wrappers. :headache:

In other news, my mom got us tickets for Sunday November 1st, 2:00pm! Tony made a face when I asked him if he'd want to go, so he gets to stay home and rot.

Good morning:)

Julie, you're getting some really good advice on here about TEENAGERS:scared1: We certainly have our share of drama around my house too.

Last week at Chapelle, Erica was offered to take Honors Art. She is really good and DH and I encouraged her to do it. Now, she is stressed because it is a lot of work. Of course, guess who gets the blame for "making her take it"--me of course. I told her she will be fine, we are in the first weeks of school and she will get into a routine. I hope this was the right thing to do. Sometimes I'm not so sure of myself.

Lorie, I started both of my kids on rice cereal when they were 1 month old. They were eating fruits and vegetables at 4 months old. This was all under the advice of their pediatrician. I loved when they went on the solid food. It sure helped them sleep through the night. I guess their tummies were full.

Jamie, I'm excited about the upcoming broadway series. We bought season tickets and Cats is an add on. I think we will get tickets for that one too. I am just so happy to have this back. Going to the Saenger for a broadway show has always been the ultimate treat for me. Throw in a good meal with it, and I'm in heaven:littleangel:

Mary... same thing is going on in my house. Fletcher misses science/social studies when he goes to gifted and he was throwing a tantrum tonight because he doesn't want to go anymore. I know he can handle it, but he all he sees is more work and "punishment"... ugh. Hopefully as the year goes on, he gets into a groove and settles in to it better.

A night of theater and dinner... my dream come true. Perhaps next year for our anniversary.

Morning Y'all,

It feels nice outside.

Mary, Has the rest of your house stayed flu free? I sure hope so!

I have a question, I'm a bit of a cultural illiterate. The only plays I've seen have been highschool & JPAS. Is "Cats!" suitable for kids? Chris asked me & I didn't have a clue! :confused3:upsidedow

You.. cultural illiterate? You sure beat me hands down in the food category!:worship:
I'm so happy that Aly is on the mend. Poor baby though with the body aches!

cajunmommy, how's the flyer?

Hi y'all. I think that I've boo'd everyone. If I missed somebody, please know it was a mistake. Let me know and I'll PM you right away.
If this offends anyone, I'm sorry and my feelings will deifinitely not be hurt if you choose not to add the Boo to your signature.

Thanks, I love my little ghost in a tree. I am glad Rie came around, I figured it would be something like that. I am sure you were relieved it was just a detention causing all that.

Hey y'all!

Rough day!! Erik had a temp of 101.1 this morning, so we went to the dr and they ran a bunch of tests (which was absolutely awful to witness :sad1:). So far, nothing bacterial showed up and his white blood cell count was fine, so we're waiting for the flu test results to come back (:scared1:). The ped said if it is the flu, she doesn't want to give him Tamiflu and thinks he should ride it out. She said the FDA just approved Tamiflu for babies that young, but she doesn't feel comfortable with it (and neither do I really). If he had the flu and looked really awful, she would prescribe it, but he seems to be handling whatever it is he has really well. She thinks it is probably something viral, so we'll see. Poor little guy looked awful this morning, but he's looking better this afternoon after some Tylenol and some sleep.

Seems that the general consensus here is to start the cereal a little early...:rolleyes1 I may have to slip a box in my cart the next time I'm at the store! It seems silly to me that one day is too early to start solids, but 24 hours later is just fine? Why not start them when the baby seems like he needs a bit more substance in his diet? It really should just vary from baby to baby....

Kristina- We may be going to Boo at the Zoo on Sunday too! DH wants to go on Friday, but since we're going to Sesame Street Live the Thursday night before, I'd rather go on Sunday night (I can't handle that much fun two nights in a row...;))

Serena- Glad Aly is feeling better!

Julie- Thanks for the boo!

Bethany- You almost took my house out with one of the eyes on your Crescent City smiley face...:rotfl:

Update: Flu results are negative, so it is probably just a virus. I have to call tomorrow for the rest of the test results, but it doesn't look like it is anything serious- whew!!

Awe, poor little guy. I hope he is on the mend.

My sister waited until 9 months before introducing ANY food to my neice (aside from breastmilk of course) and that was sure a mistake. She lost half a pound and had the child protective services looking at her (my neice is a year on Monday, and lives in Germany) before she gave her anything. Well, she skipped the Rice Cereal and went straight to BBQ chicken:confused3 It is refreshing to see a mama using logic for a change :goodvibes
I'm sorry Erik is sick:hug:.

When my older son was a baby- almost 34 years ago:scared1:- the doctor said to start feeding at 1 week! I started him on rice because it is the easiet to digest and he did fine. By the time the other 2 were born, it was the 4 month deal which I never followed and they did fine too.

Well, since your older son and I are around the same age, did you also get told to put your feet up, have a cigarette and a glass of wine to relax nightly because it was good for the baby? My MIL still has the literature from that day and whoa:hippie:

Sorry...:rotfl2: Guess I should have asked you if you wanted lakefront property. :lmao:

I have not seen any of the five Broadway shows that are coming here. We have discussed getting season tickets. I think maybe we should do more than just discuss. I did see In the Heights, Lion King, Mary Poppins, and some off Broadway stuff. It's so expensive. A single ticket to Lion King in the back row in NYC can run you $60. Season tickets here for four shows are $112 I think for the cheapest ones.

I need to look into this Boo at the Zoo thing. I got an email about it today but haven't read it yet.

Yesterday I was reading the NYC news (yes...I still do that :rolleyes1) and they said they think as much as 10% of the NYC population (800,000+ people!) had the swine flu last spring. I think I may have had it. Remember that time I ended up in the ER in late May? They told me it wasn't swine flu because my temperature was too low; the never actually ran the test for it. :confused3 (The DID, however, run a pregnancy test...cuz, ya know, the symptoms are like...the same. :headache:)

Channel 6 just showed temperatures of 28 in Belle Chasse! :lmao: Somebody transposed some digits on the map! :rotfl2: :rotfl:
Oh.. one day soon enough that 28 in Belle Chasse will not be because it is transposed, just perhaps not this year since we are supposed to be milder due to El Nino... though El Nino is not doing its job.. Erika?

I am not doing Boo at the Zoo this year.. I am going to save that for next year

Sorry Kristina, about the refi not going through...

Lori, try to feel better, but the silver lining is you have plenty of time to recover before your trip (I hope)

Thanks, I love my little ghost in a tree. I am glad Rie came around, I figured it would be something like that. I am sure you were relieved it was just a detention causing all that.

You're welcome for the Boo.

:rotfl:When my son was born, I was in the middle of the traditional and granola moms. Although I did smoke before I was pregnant, I didn't when I got pregnant. No wine either

I have some kind of goofy disease that causes horrid bladder spasms. One thing that keeps the spasms at bay believe it or not is smoking so I usually smoke 1/day. The spasms are equal to late stage labor pains. I do what I can to avoid them.:thumbsup2

Riesmom- thanks for the Boo! but I haven't gotten him hooked up yet!

11, well 10.5 more days and I can do that early checkin thing tomorrow!!:wizard:

We had an interesting evening.....

someone got a hold of my cell # from when the house was 1st on the market and was crank calling me(thats what we used to call it) tonight.
Even though it was stupid kids this bothers me. The 1st TWO calls he had the "restricted caller" and the third time he didn't so i got the #. I was at Sicily's(kids night!) with the girls and the 1st call was like this:

caller- hey, can I buy your house for $5
me- um yeah sure kid
caller- does it have 3 bedrooms?
me- thanks for the call kid, see ya
click

#2 call:
caller-I'll pay ya $200000 for your house(we're asking $153900)
me- ok I'll take ya up on that one!
caller- ok ,see ya Saturday
me- click!

#3 call:
caller-(a girl this time) how much are you asking for your house?
me- are you for real? ugh, $153900
caller(same boy from last 2 calls comes on)- it has 3 bedrooms?
me- ok, thanks for calling again.(getting mad here but playing along with these stupid kids)
caller-does it have a sex room? click

So after the 3rd call I saw that I had the #(yay!!!)

So I called him back and left a message on his sprint voicemail with his name on it-Alex

"Thank you for your interest in my home ALEX, I know you are playing around and find it funny, but you messed with the wrong person. My brother is the juvenile detective for the parish(didn't specify which parish;)) and i WILL be reporting you and your phone # immediately. Your last call was offensive and young man, you need to GROW UP"

I then called my brother, who IS the juvenile detective for a local parish and he thinks it was a benign call, but is tracing the number in the morning for me. So I am not too worried, but my kids are freaked out so guess who has 1 mini adult sized kid and other kid in bed with them tonight??

My hubby on the other hand, called the # from the phone where he is at so they don't trace it to his cell and let the kid know(via voicemail again) that he WAS the juvenile detective and his number/name has been reported for being sexually offensive.

DH looked up the number and found out who it is registered to. The address did not come up. DB will get that tomorrow.

I am just itching to tell this kids parents- if they are the type that give a hoot.

DH told me to go take the flyers out and make sure my # is not still on them. he said to call the real estate co and make sure my number is taken off of the account and his number goes on as a contact. With FSBO, you use thier #, but they need one for notifications. It is to keep you safe from stuff like this happening. But in the beginning, we had my number on it b/c I am the one who is home and taking care of all this business.

I crank called as a kid, but it was about bras and such. And just once or twice. Not offensive. So I hope this kid is scared enough to not do this again. Of course, I could wake up to an egged house or a rolled yard!

I am sure I am in for another not so restful night.

UGH

10.5 days!

yes i am up again and can't sleep...so time to catch up on the Dis!
Thank goodness Lori....Whew.

Well DD is starting to sass and annoy me so she is definately back to normal this evening. She's just a little congested. Its amazing how she feels 2 days later.
glad she is feeling better. G is being SO stubborn with studying at homework :headache:
I just updated my previous post- no flu! Big relief!
yay! glad no flu and hope he gets well soon! (and none of you get it either!) hug my Sienna for me!
Kristina- We may be going to Boo at the Zoo on Sunday too! DH wants to go on Friday, but since we're going to Sesame Street Live the Thursday night before, I'd rather go on Sunday night (I can't handle that much fun two nights in a row...;))
we are doing the later one at 7 - we went later last time and crowds were decent but not bad...no use paying an extra $3/person
Sorry...:rotfl2: Guess I should have asked you if you wanted lakefront property. :lmao:

that would be fun for us all to go together! parking is tough so maybe meet somewhere and carpool (ex: Bethany comes)
Hey gals- not feeling better today:guilty: but it was worse today ONLY b/c i didn't sleep well last night at all. I woke up to every stinking noise in my house:mad:.

Ug. It was so embarassing and obnoxious. You'd think the woman always touting manners and etiquette would know better than to keep crinkling those dang wrappers. :headache:

can't figure out how to make the boo work on my mac :( sorry you have those spasms

and Lori sorry about your crank callers - prayers for restful sleep! (someone stole mine!)

had to go to court in harahan for a ticket - $400! :scared1: i am mad cause I know I wasn't speeding and KNOW I didn't forget to stop at a stop sign. however, ticket was $359 when I called and more in court. he agreed to waive court costs and can get expunged in 90 days if plead now...court costs were like $200/ticket or something ridiculous! sigh...lesson: stay the hell out of Harahan if at all possible! I was supposed to go pick up something from a friend but refused cause that is where she lives.

Not sleeping-ugh, those nights drive me nuts! I;,m sorry and hope you sleep better tonight.

I know zero about Mac computers, sorry.

Speeding tickets-A few months ago, I had a state trooper pull me over for speeding but I told him, " I saw you sitting in your car, I'm not stupid enough to go over the limit. I checked my speed and I was not speeding."
Him, " M'am get your insurance." I stomped over to my car's glove box and got it. Then he told me he'd let me off with a warning. He must feel sorry for old ladies.
I have not always been so lucky.

Thanks. the spasms are part of my life. I accept it but I dread them at the same time. At least I know what causes them. When I first had them, I went to the ER because I thought it might be appendicitis. My doc says that i have to come in or go to the ER because one time it might turn out to be appendicitis and I can't take for granted that it's the spasms. Thank God, they're not too frequent- just a few to several times a year.

Umm....I think some of my info has changed too since the list was last sent out.

Pm me your info and I'll make the changes.:goodvibes

Thanks for booing me!:goodvibes

That must be very painful. I just realized that I've been smoke free almost two years now!

Lori - I don't blame you for being upset with that kid. Once you cross the sex line it's a different story.

Kristina - Sorry you're having trouble sleeping, hoping it gets better for you soon.

Happy hump day ladies. I am sitting outside on my patio enjoying this nice weather. :thumbsup2

Well Aly is still congested and coughing so I think we will let her stay out the remainder of the week; I'll call the Dr and get another return to school slip.

Kristina, yikes $400 ticket:scared1:

Serena, I think you're right for keeping her home one more day.

Julie, thanks for the boo. When my kids come home from school, I'll ask them to activate it for me:lmao: I am so computer dumb, I tried to put a ticker for my upcoming trip on this morning and couldn't even get that on:sad2:

We are going to be in WDW from 9/24-28. I've never been to Food and Wine Fest before. Do you dress up a little, or are shorts/park attire appropriate?

Kristina-:hug::hug::hug::hug: I was up till about 2am, so we coulda kept each other company-IF I had been on the computer....

Kathy- I, personally, from a friend AND a cardiology gal standpoint, am SOOOO proud of you!!!:wizard::cool1:

Unless you are going to some of the special (extra $) functions, no need to dress up.

Happy hump day ladies. I am sitting outside on my patio enjoying this nice weather. :thumbsup2

Wow - two years! congrats!:yay::woohoo:

Hey Y'all,

What a pretty day!

Alexis is among the sick today. She started with vomiting & fever last night, Chris just left the dr's office. A stomach flu is also going around. Of course nothing they can do for that. We are both so worried about her missing school already. She seems to pick up every single thing that goes around. With swine flu & who knows what else is going around, it's just scary.

Lorie, I'm so sorry Erik is so sick. Prayers that he gets over it quickly.:flower3:

I'm going to have to read through everthing again, it all just went out of my brain, when the worry took over.

Lori, I hope you start feeling better soon! You've got to be ready for WDW!:cool1:

Kat, Wow, 2 years smoke free! That's great! :thumbsup2

Terry, I hope Aly gets all better quickly!

Oh, poor Alexis. Nothing is more miserable than nausea. I hope she feels better soon.

Thanks Zipuzee, I'd like to be comfortable and stay casual if I can:cutie:

Lori, very exciting:thumbsup2

:woohoo: Do you have any special events booked? We only dress up a little for the booked events.

Kathy- I, personally, from a friend AND a cardiology gal standpoint, am SOOOO proud of you!!!:wizard::cool1:

:thumbsup2 I'm so excited for you, your trip is so close!!!!!

Mary, I'm sorry I missed your question about F&W. If you're doing any wine tastings or food demos, that's park clothes. As Laurie said anything dinners are signature rest clothes, collared shirts for men, no cut-offs etc.

Alexis is not doing well at all today. Vomiting & crying from stomach pain. :sad1:

Kat, we don't have any wine events booked. Do you reccomend that?
