Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

It was wonderful to meet you today... I am so glad you were able to make it! Your painting is amazing by the way... so creative.

Well, thanks. But I stole the idea from this drawing I did in highschool:
2002_0124_210531AA.jpg

Which I'm pretty sure I stole from a t-shirt I had at one time.

How was the painting class? Y'all have do give ups more details like pictures please!

Does anyone want to go to again? I REALLY want to try that painting class! I also broke my only large ceramic platter & would like to go make another.

Painting was so fun. As Bethany said, you just pick the object you want to paint and have at it. It's so nice to paint with out all the tedious set up and clean up. There are lots of things to choose - plates, platters, bowls, coffee mugs, goblets, vases, picture frames, different animal figures and more. I would defintely do it again (but it would have to be late on a Sat or midday Sun again).

So I'm trying to get up at 6 this week and next WITHOUT going back to sleep during the day so I'll be ready for work. :rolleyes1

Thanks for posting the pictures! And 6 am? Ouch. Good luck.

Hey y'all,

I'm not feeling as good today, I didn't sleep well my neck was hurting. The NP told me to expect bad days, so at least I'm not freaking out about it.

The aide situation is working out! Thanks for the prayers.
The new girl was able to get the 11-7 shift on her other job, so she could come here morning & night. So Bob went in a little late this morning but that's ok. She sounded like she was going to quit that job today! It really sounds awful, it's a state run nursing home & she has 26 patients to clean, bath, etc. I feel bad for her, but much worse for the poor people not getting decent care because the place is so understaffed.:sad2:

The plates are wonderful!! Everyone did such a good job! I really do need to go, my favorite large platter broke.

Jamie you're a real artist! Pretty! Not having to set up & clean up sure does sound good!

Bethany is your plate 3D looking or is that a napkin holder fleur de lis?

I hope Lori & her girls have a safe & fun trip to Houston!

Have a good day friends!

They have things they call "add-ons". They are what it sounds like - you paint them and tell them where you want it; after they fire it they will glue it on in place! I suppose you could add them to anything with a flat surface; I saw a really cute photo frame with one. (They have completed examples of things all over the store!)

He y'all!

So I think Kathy and Lori was right in that Erik was having a growth spurt. He's sleeping much better now and hasn't been as much of a voracious piggie that he was a few days ago. It's much better around here with a happy, sleeping baby!

I love the plates! That looks like so much fun! Hopefully I'll be able to do one of the painting meets.

Bethany- I haven't forgotten about you! The problem has been that DH hasn't had much in the way of a day off lately- even on his "day off", he's had to go in for meetings midday, so we couldn't do lunch on those days. He said that next week he should have a free day- I'll let you know soon!

Sheryl- I'm sorry you had an "off" day! I hope you feel better tomorrow!

Lori- I hope you and the girls have a fun Houston road trip!

Lorie - can't wait to hear how the Houston trip went

Lori - isn't about time for a baby update pic? Unless there have been some on FB - in which case I missed them b/c I still can't figure out FB :guilty:

hey gals!!

well, the 1st half of the drive was beautiful-I truly love seeing the Atchafalaya(sp?) and all the cypress poking out of the water b/t BR and Lafayette. We ate at Cracker Barrell(crackerdilly;)) in Sulphur and the 2nd leg of the tour was rougher-b/t rain here and there, stupid drivers, and eventually TRAFFIC at 3pm when we finally got to Houston- I almost cried, more out of being aggravated, not sad. I did a lot of thinking on the way and I HATE admitting this, but I think this is gonna be good for our family. I REALLY hate admitting it. Ask Paul- I told him today that I cannot believe I am saying it. I think God is working on me though. I am accepting it and even getting a little excited about our new surroundings-a really cool neighborhood, so many new field trips, weekend trips home. Paul and I totally relying on only each other like we did in Dallas way back when-at least for a while till we meet new friends and find a church home. We went and visited a church near the neighborhood we like. No One was really there- but it was all good anyway. Ashton was excited b/c the gym has a "real" stage for plays/choir.

I don't know how the weather is there tonight but it is almost beach-like here right now. The kids are in the pool, and I am at a table watching them as I type.

I LOVE your plates, platters, artwork on the pottery! I sooo wanna make some stuff for the house. It's gonna have a lot of HOME in it, that is for sure. We are pretty laid back, and I already have a Mickey Mouse bathroom(ever since 1993) that gets a new face every so many years when things wear out, so IF we are lucky enough to get a 2 and HALF bath home, the half bath will be LSU. The master bath will be the only "decorative" bath! O well!

Gotta go get the kids out!

Lori

Well, there you go- some new pics! :thumbsup2

Lori- I'm glad the trip has gone ok so far and that you are feeling better about the move.

Lorie, Glad to hear Erik is sleeping (& Mommy) again! I'm sorry everytime you are on, I am complaining!

In fact I apologize to all of you for always being such a downer!

I told Bethany that I'm hoping to feel good enough for lunch next week. So if you can work it out (and Bethany is willing to pick me up!;)) maybe we can have a mini-mini-meet!

Lori, Glad most of the drive was okay. I know the last time we drove to Houston we had rain most of the way & tons of road work. I'm praying all of your commutes there this year will be smooth.

I'm so happy to hear that you are feeling that the move is the right plan & that you are actually starting to get excited! :goodvibes

Jamie, Us FBer's haven't been begging for baby pics because we did get a few on there. We sure could use a lot more!

Lorie, Please tell your WONDERFUL HUSBAND ;);) to put that new camera to use on that new baby!!! Less flowers & frogs more baby please!

You're not being a downer! You're updating us on your recovery! I, for one, appreciate you letting us know how you're doing!

I can pick you up. Just don't make me take that Huey P. Long bridge and we're good. :thumbsup2

Lori - I'm glad to hear you got to Houston all safe and sound! I know how you feel about traffic. I'm glad you are finding some places to get connected. That can be the hardest part, and you do not have a fabulous "Metro Houston DISers" thread to help you out. ;)

Bethany, I called & I am #4 on the wait list.:sad1: IMy chances of getting in didn't sound good. If we do get to go anywhere I will do my best to avoid HPLong bridge!

Sheryl, you are a sweetheart even when you are not feeling well. I don't think you could be a "downer".:goodvibes

Bethany, I am feeling good.:thumbsup2 Thanks for asking. Its almost been a month since I had my procedure.

I enjoyed seeing the pictures of your plates. They are beautiful and I bet ya'll had a great time doing them.

#4! :scared: Well, at least you are ON it. I didn't even know one existed or I would have suggested it to Lorie last week when she was mentioning thinking about going! :sad2:

We have some people from this thread that have not checked in in a while! Where has rie'smom, Kim from Kenner (what is her screen name? :confused3), arminnie, and camping cat been? Also cajunmommy has not popped in for a bit. :confused3 And I think I'm missing someone else also....hmmm....

Hey y'all,

Mary I'm glad you are feeling good!

Bethany, You're right we have quite a few who haven't been on in a while. I sure don't want our thread to die. I know Arminnie/Tricia said she would be cleaning out her Dad's house this week.

It won't die! I just wonder where the others went....

Hey - I'm here - just mostly lurking in short spurts. No real time to stop & chat.

Work schedules have been a little wacky, as we have a big audit (QA not financial) coming through this week. Needless to say the other supervisors have their knickers in a twist, so I'm trying to at least pretend to do some work! ;) I'll let them do the worrying.

Lori- glad to hear you're getting your head wrapped around the Houston move in small bits. You'll be ready when you're ready.

shovan - Behaving & still taking it easy, I hope?!?

Piglet - What - you don't like driving over the Huey P? Aw, c'mon - I did it daily for almost 5yrs. Of course, I didn't have to put up with the ongoing lane restrictions & construction. That's one thing you'll have to learn to deal with - LOTS of bridges here, some more driver friendly than others. Anybody introduce you to the pleasure of driving over a pontoon bridge yet? Those are fun ! The center of the bridge span is basically a barge that floats, so the surface may be high or low depending upon the height of the body of water.

Good to see you! I have not yet driven over the Huey P. The CCC is JUST FINE as far as I'm concerned! :rotfl2:

The only place I've lived that DIDN'T have a lot of bridges was Denver.

Pontoon bridge? Like this?

If so, then I have driven on pontoon bridges before (as seen in the above photo!) They have two in the Seattle area, they call them "the Floating Bridges". (Real creative, I know...if they named the CCC it would be "The Gray Bridge"...the bridges near me were known as "The Blue Bridge", "The Cable Bridge", and "The Highway Bridge". :rotfl2:) They just sit right on top of the water. During bad weather they have to close them because the water gets rough and starts climbing onto the road. :scared:

Hey y'all, I'm here. Feeling a little down in the dumps- an old friend of the family died, one of Rie's friends was killed in a car wreck and school is getting ready to start. I've always hated when my kids start school.
I'm thinking about becoming a pink lady at the hospital. Rie's cheerleader moderator was let go so I may have to pinch hit with them. I don't want to sign on as a hospital volunteer until I'm sure that I have the time.
Hope all is well with you guys.

hey gals!

rie'smom- in my prayers and volunteering at a hospital is a sweet thing to do. B/c I work at one, it will not be something I ever do unless I can sit and rock babies!!

I am having anxiety issues again. Met with the real estate agent, who is very nice. Showed me and the girls 3 homes today- but the one I really liked we couldn't see. The owner was not up for it this week(kinda wierd if you are selling), but I guess if your in no hurry. We liked one, but the other 2 had WIERD floor plans. The agent is a Tinkerbell fan and Disney fan too! One home must have had people who have been to Africa, b/c the whole house was very AFRICAN/ANIMAL PRINT-even the kitchen. The yeard for that home was gorgeous though- seeing through the animal/african motif was okay, as I can see past paint and decor, and actually the paint colors were pretty. Lots of beigy tones. The kitchen had tiger/animal print wallpaper-that was ROUGH!!! With jungle border.....

The one we liked that we saw was 2 story. Very sweet. And my kids had more fun with these peoples pets than looking at the house. Oh, I did I feel better about MY house-the houses we saw had normal everyday life happening-even a garbage can was out-:scared1: and full!!!! Oh and a bottle of hairspray and shampoo!:scared1::scared1: and a brush!:scared1::scared1::scared1:
The agent was laughing b/c she says most people cannot see past those things and just say it is gross. I told her my parameters were: garden/jacuzzi tub and a bug man- the rest I could deal with!!:rotfl: If i have my nightly bath and NO roaches anywhere in my home, I am so OKAY!:thumbsup2
Of course, the house has to be sound and solid too! We can deal with painting, but not plumbing.

One older couple had a sign on thier fridge saying this,

"fridge stays, but the grandkids are not part of the package" (pics of kids all over fridge), so I wrote a note back saying this:

"but they're so cute!"

Why the anxiety? My van is giving me trouble, little hesitations here and there. We never seem to be able to get ahead. Disney will be a welcome distraction. If we need a new car, we probably shouldn't even go, but it is paid and plane fare is done. SO aggravated. It gave me NO problems on the way here, it is the starting and stoppping-maybe it is protesting Houston:headache:.

Sorry so long, just venting. Thank you-and Sheryl, whine anyday, you don't "read" as whiny as you may think!!! You are always hopeful and cheerful!

Lori
