Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Kat, I hope your week is going a little more smoothly than you had originally though:goodvibes

Sheryl, I'm glad you're recovering. I hope you got some good pampering time in with your fancy bath stuff:thumbsup2

Lori, I hope your girls enjoy their shopping trip. That's always a lot of fun. Sorry to hear about the freezer.

Tricia, I know you're glad your dad's surgery is over. Praying for a quick recovery for him:hug:

Hi ladies...how's everyone this afternoon?

I am about to bow a gasket...it's amazing how childish people with a "title" act and treat people beneath them...well they found the right one when they messed with me today.   Just had to let that out!!!!

This morning was here WAY too early... I havent been sleeping well lately, I think I need to go back to work to wear me out again :scared:

:scared: I am having the opposite problem. I'm sleeping WAY TOO MUCH...then grazing through the pantry during the hours I'm awake. Cuz, ya know, I actually HAVE FOOD here! :cool1: I had forgotten just how convenient the whole car thing is. :upsidedow

I've had a nice day today. I think it's that I feltl good enough to realize I don't have to do anything!:cool1: I sat outside & read ALL day!!! Then I came in & took a bath with some fancy bath stuff DD gave me!

Bethany, If y'all don't plan the painting & pottery again (when I can go) I'm going to be mad, mad! ;)

That sounds great! :goodvibes

And I'm sure we'll do the painting and pottery again at some point...

Thanks for all the good thoughts and prayers for my dad. The surgery went well but took a little longer than expected. He went home yesterday afternoon and my mom said he was still pretty medicated so he wasn't feeling any pain.

That is good to hear.

The freezer in my garage died or the switch flipped or something and it is stinking up everything-DH is wanting to throw it out and I was for saving it(there was not a lot in it). But today it is so bad:eek:,and we cannot get to it with all the garage sale stuff in there, that I am letting him have his way:rolleyes:.

 Were you able to get rid of it?

I am about to bow a gasket...it's amazing how childish people with a "title" act and treat people beneath them...well they found the right one when they messed with me today.   Just had to let that out!!!!

 Sorry to hear you had a rough time at work today.

So yesterday we went out and drove around Chalmette. Parts are looking really good...a lot better than when I saw it for the first time in October and that was less than a year ago. A lot of the houses are beautiful and they have some brand new school buildings that are really nice too. :thumbsup2

Today I am attempting to catch up on some scrapbooking. I pulled out all the stuff from my Disneyland trip from April 2008. I haven't gotten much further than that though. I got lured into surfing the internet.

Hey y'all,

I slept half my day away. I guess I'm bored. Feeling fine & looking forward to dinner. A friend sent asian chicken & sweet potatoes.

Tricia, Glad your Dad is doing okay!

Bethany, Have you unpacked everything?

Terry, Sorry you had to deal with a nasty person.

Lori, I'd throw it out! It takes too much time & work to get rid of the smell. Hope you had a little fun shopping today!

Sleep is good for recovery-take advantage of your time.

We are getting rid of it-but Paul has been working and the garage is FULL, so we need to get all of it out to get to it and get it out- hopefully tonight!

The kids had a blast, they are tired but ready to model their new stuff for Paul and I.

I got a few things for myself- my yearly run to VS for "unmentionables":lmao:. They have the CUTEST LSU line there, but it is kinda high- the girl at the counter says it goes on sale with thier semi annual sale-so I may have to go back then for a couple thingsbefore I am in Texas. I LOVE the sweats-they are just different, I thought.

Sorry I've been MIA. I have been thinking of all of you.

My dad went into the hospital in June, then went to rehab and is now living in a retirement home. He came home on a Tuesday, and we had to find a place and have the movers come on Friday.

My sister and I are still trying to get him unpacked and settled - he's been there about 10 days now. Today we hung his flat screen TV (which is much easier than I thought it would be) and put up wall clocks, etc.

Now I have to see about getting this house empty. My parents bought this house about 15 years ago. My mother has been gone for 11 years - but somehow my dad the packrat has managed to accumulate a LOT of stuff in those few years.

My parents were both in the Navy when they married in 1945. As the war had just ended and lots of people were leaving the service someone gave them a set of U.S. Navy flatware (pilfered I'm sure). It is non-shiny stainless steel (a grey matte color) with U.S.N. engraved on it. We ate with it for decades before my mother ever got anything else.

It's things like this that I'd like to keep. I don't care about most of the other "stuff".

Ok guys I have a proud mama message, DD and a group of girls from her gymnastics gym have been invited to attend a weekend at Bela Karolyi's ranch/gym to learn routines with him and other high level coaches from around the country. :yay::yay: She is soooooo excited. I think this is the highlight of her summer; she will definately not forget this experience. The owner of our gym is a member of the National Gymnastics board and goes to all of the meetings so she is close friends with Bela. She was in NY last year for the gymnastics finals working with Shawn Johnson and the team. :thumbsup2 Maybe she will get to me them...who knows.

Tricia, I'm so sorry you've been dealing with all of this. I know it must have been hard to find a place for your Dad & now the moving. Prayers that it all goes smoothly now.

She is going to have a blast! My DD Angelina went to Karolyi's camp twice. She still talks about it like it was yesterday! She truly loved Bela & his wife (Marta) and being trained by them & the current stars of the time. She will not forget this experience! In fact Angelina & I were talking yesterday, about Alexis and her gymnastics day camp she is in this week. Angelina started reminiscing about Karolyi's and how much she loved it! I'm excited for her!

Haven't had time to catch up but wanted to tell Tricia (arminnie) that I know all too well how tough it it to sift through years of stuff. Glad Dad is settled in his new home.

Terry - Congrats to DD, that is super exciting for her!:cheer2:

We have a closing date set for M&D's house - 9/4....keeping fingers & toes crossed!

GM ladies.

Tricia  to you....Hope everything works out with your dad in the new place

Kathy I am crossing my fingers and toes too! :)

Morning everyone! Is it Friday yet? Looked real hard at the calendar this morning and realized my boys only have 2 1/2 weeks of summer left! :scared1: Where has the summer gone? :confused3
I slept half my day away. I guess I'm bored. Feeling fine & looking forward to dinner.
Not bored - your body needs the sleep to heal itself. Go ahead, indulge yourself & sleep! It sounds like you're improving day to day.

my yearly run to VS for "unmentionables":lmao:. They have the CUTEST LSU line there, but it is kinda high-
Was that part of their PINK line? IIRC, we were supposed to be in a test market type situation for that line, and the LSU & Southern stuff sold so well, they're expanding it to other universities. There were a couple of articles in the BR paper about it, and I think that line may have been started by someone with ties to Southern. (OK - don't quote me on that - I just remember reading something about it in the paper, and thought it was odd that VS would be a "feature" story.)

Sorry I've been MIA. I have been thinking of all of you.
My dad went into the hospital in June, then went to rehab and is now living in a retirement home.
I was thinking about you yesterday, wondering what was keeping you away. Is your dad doing OK in the new home? Can he still cook or did he have to give that up? I know it's always a tough decision, but I hope you & your siblings get some peace knowing he's being watched over & cared for daily.

Ok guys I have a proud mama message, DD and a group of girls from her gymnastics gym have been invited to attend a weekend at Bela Karolyi's ranch/gym to learn routines with him and other high level coaches from around the country.
WOW! Sounds like your day ended much better than it started!

Kathy - is this sale with the friend who does the turn-arounds for rent? Fingers & toes crossed! What does your gut tell you on this one?

Morning gals.....

Tricia- wow, you have been busy. i hope it all goes as smoothly as possible.

Kathy- I am crossing my fingers AND toes for you! Cannot wait for you to have this behind you.

Terry- how exciting!!!!!!

We set the price for out home at $10000 less than the rest of the houses for sale on my street- still nothing- coming up on 2 weeks and all who contacts me are agents and scammers!

Lori

Yes, he's actually going to fix it up and hold onto it until the "Federal City" project gets underway. That will be a hot property, too bad I couldn't afford to hold onto it. My gut tells me this will happen and this is what my Mom & Dad have been waiting for, someone to make it beautiful again. If this doesn't happen, I give up and will rent it.

Morning Y'all,

I'm doing fine today, about the same, which has been good.

I do have to ask for some prayers again. :sad2: Our aide situation has become an issue again. The aide Miranda, we've had is nearing her due date & needs to slow down. We had another girl come out & she was to start this weekend & then take over evenings next week. Well the new one calls Miranda yesterday! Which is just weird, because she should have called us or the company. She told her she has another full time job & can't take us until they switch her shift! So now Bob has to get on the phone with the company & see if they can find someone else.

Kat, I really hope this works out for you! I know you really don't want to have to rent it. But it is a "landlord's market" right now, so at least you will have that option.

gnight all!

DN7 home, we are back from celebrating my dad's birthday, and gotta work tomorrow through Sunday. Houston on Monday- someone will be here taking care of the pups-so blessed for this.

See you later!

Busy, busy, busy here.......gotta a ton of work this morning, gotta get to the gym, change cell phone subscriber and hopefully dinner at Landry's on the lake with a huge Mai-Tai in my hand tonight.....:cloud9:

Hey where is everyone today?

Kat I hope you were able to get everything done!

I didn't get to check in this morning because I had an early x-ray then dr's appt. Good news, I am doing very, very well. The NP was very pleasantly surprised, she said I would be in about the top 2% of quick recoveries they've seen. So I was able to get out of the house today AND find out that I can get in a car now. I could even do very short neighborhood driving if I felt safe. I have to wear the neck brace, so I don't think I'm ready for that yet. But I can now blowdry my own hair! :yay::laughing: Yeah sounds nutty, but it's a big deal to me & DD who's come over twice to do it for me. I can walk & in a few days when the wounds are healed light gentle swimming! But no lifting & NO HOUSEWORK!

shovan-GREAT news! Now, don't mess it up by getting too eager & trying to push yourself. Keep up the hard work of taking it easy! I really do hope the aide situation gets worked out. Both of you need the helping hands.

Oh, I do get how you feel about being able to do your own hair. That's one thing that would drive me bananas. I usually don't feel 100% myself if I've not been able to take care of showering & washing my hair.

At the risk of jinxing myself, it looks to be a quiet weekend here. Not much on the agenda other than trying to finish up shopping for the last bits of school supplies.

Kathy - that Mai Tai sounds pretty good. Hmm...I have some pineapple juice in the pantry....

Shovan - good for you....pls take it easy though. Don't go getting all independent. LOL

Well I finished dd's school supply and uniform shopping today. I am officially broke. :rolleyes1 At least til next Friday.

Kathy have one of those for me too girl. ;)

Mai Tai sounds really good about now.

I have been MIA except for the 15 minutes here and there that i check email, FB and Did- and this is my only thread I check and post on. Every so often I check out this funny guys PTR.

OMG- I had my 1st mammogram today- I think they were trying to get my rib cage in there too(ouch)- so it hurt more than i though considering everyone tells you that it is MUCH better than it used to be. I have a decent pain tolerance, or so i thought. The tech said it hurst more on "younger" gals b/c breast tissue is more dense. Whatever. I felt like I needed to make sure they were still connected to me afterward. Thank God for a bra- i really will bring a sport bra next time!!:lmao:It'll smoosh them suckers closer to me after the next one. If I didn't have saggy ones before, i sure think the mammogram never helped that out much!

That happened before the work craziness, where i was supposed to be.

DD11 woke up nauseated and started throwing up constantly, all day. Emetrol didn't work so we called the doc tonight for some good ole phenergan suppositories-poor baby. I would tell you more about the following conversation, but I am thinking the Dis will kick me off;).

She has been sick 2x now in 2 weeks! My nerves are shot.

I got my steam cleaner yesterday! Amazon, free shipping, no tax- got it 3 days after ordering. Used it today and wow! my house is gross:laughing:. So in between work, no work, mammogram, back to work, home, trips to the bathroom with DD11, steam cleaning carpet, and trying to live normal life- I didn;t even realize that 3 friends called and i was on my last leg, so i called no one back.

Lexapro is calling- the call is getting louder and louder! If my DH is cool with it, i am calling my doc for some. I figure a years worth will work!!
