Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

...So you're saying we need to contact Delgado to have TOPS award transferred???? Ugh.....:headache::headache:

You shouldn't have to contact Delgado - I would think LSU should be able to handle that. I know TOPS has a website; but I don't have that one bookmarked - you should be able to search for it and it will probably be able to answer questions about transferring TOPS. I know its done all the time.

Hey!
We just passed Beaumont and so far the drive is more exciting than the drive to Dallas.still kinda dull though.

We saw some colts:)- Haley will like that. I hate being this far from
Them though.
I love Pauls iPhone for this!
Kathy-hope It all works out easily for you and Kyle.

We think the midpoint is bt Lake Charles and Jennings.in a field somewhere:)

Lori

Just checking in here...3 actually had a decent day today. I got a lot (15!) of assessments done and we worked a bit on the dance for the festival on Thursday. They still look a hot mess but I think it should be okay by then. I hope. :lmao:

Jan- thanks for all the answers! It all makes a lot more sense now!

:hug::hug::hug: to all who need them.

I need to start looking into student loans, which I know absolutely nothing about. With our financial situation as screwed up as it is because the house still hasn't sold, this may be the only way Kyle can go away to college. I don't know where to begin.:sad2:

Kat, there's FAFSA, which is Federal student aid:

http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

:hug::hug:to everyone who needs them!!! I'm crazy busy with Rie finishing school this week and finishing up her correspondence classes too. Calgon, take me away!!!

Well i am about 50% packed already....i am trying to get excited; not sure that i am where i should be 2 days before a trip! :rolleyes1

Tomorrow is DD's last day at Arden Cahill. She has a 2 hour honor roll assembly/moving up celebration then we are out of there. :woohoo: The summer will officially begin for her.

hey gals!

We spent the day driving then checking out some AWESOME master planned communities and subdivisions in the Cypress/Fairfield are-NW, but more west of Houston. But it is I-10 all the way, to 610, to 290-very easy. After going through east Houston, I think others are correct-it's very industrial and not very pretty at all. We are checking a couple places on Thursday before we head home in NE Houston. It took about 5.5 hours to get here-not really that bad of a drive. Our cousins brought us around the area so it was fun too! Tomorrow is downtown Houston for Paul to fingerprinted for his licensing at 8am-so we will experience Houston traffic at it's worst.
Then we are heading north to the Woodlands and Spring. Thenback to the hotel for a NAP.

I truly do not like being this far away from my kids!!

But I feel -it seems that being here may be really good for our family.
I am not excited yet- when our home sells and we get one like we want here for a price we can deal with-then I may get more excited. But I am preparing myself for tears and joy too. We already have a possible church in mind-we met the childrens ministry director and it sounds great! We will see.

Lori-true NOLA girl!

PS-there was a home with a Texas star etched in the glass on the door and this was a selling point:eek::eek::eek:. WHY would someone put that on thier home???? I wouldn't buy it just b/c of that!!! now if it had a fleur de lis!!!

And a lonely star at that, too...

I'm glad it's starting to work out for you!

Lorie, how's Erick doing? How are you doing? One week from today, right? :woohoo:

Terry, I have to say I'm a weebit jealous right now. Last day of school AND a WDW trip? :upsidedow You will have a great time!

Kathy, good luck with the paperwork. Isn't it SO MUCH FUN?!?

Okay, off to knock out another day of school. I'm hoping it's as decent as yesterday was. Have a good day, everybody!

Sounds like a very successful trip so far! Those Texans are proud of their state, that I remember well.;)

Hope it's a good day for you!

I'm off to work soon, then the gym! BBL.......

Good morning:)

Kathy, we are just starting to look at colleges for David. I'll be in your situation in a few months. My friends warned me about all the paperwork involved:scared:

Terry, have a wonderful trip. I hope you feel the magic when you see the beautiful Cinderella's castle, Spaceship Earth, Tower of Terror, etc. :wizard:

Lori, I'm glad you're making progress and its working out:)

Hi all!

Hope everyone had a nice memorial day. Ours was great, had friends over and ate and ate .

Unfortunately Jack woke up yesterday with strep and impetigo. Missed a funeral I was going to in Marrero , but I had to get him to Dr.

Going to clean house today .. and lysol everything. The impetigo is grossing me out!

Lori.. glad the trip is going good. Hopefully you can get excited soon. LOL at the Texas star on the door. My cousins live in Texas and have been there for at least 12 years.. they are truly Texans now. I dont think they will ever come back. Maybe you wont love it as much, but hopefully it will grow on you as time goes on.

Hugs to everyone . Im off to clean!

LOL

Oh Jennifer, I hope your son feels better soon.

Erica has her last exam today and she is having an end of the year party here at noon. We will have 17 teenagers here in a little while. Wish me luck:rotfl: No, I'm just kidding, they are all nice kids. Should be fun.

Woo hoo. last exam!! I bet she is very excited. Have fun with the party. I used to love when my oldest had his friends over. All such good kids.

Hey everybody!
Sorry I've been AWOL - the craziness of last week with the boys' last days of school is now over. They started camp yesterday, so I'm back to somewhat of a normal routine.

Work, however, is another story. Isn't that always the case?? Weeks of same old same old, then I get slammed both at home & work.

Have fun to all of you headed out to see Mickey - boy I'm jealous! Sorry Tricia had to deal with that nasty weather last week. We went same time last year, and the beautiful weather was a big factor in my wanting to go back that same week for our next trip.

Lorie- Hope you're doing OK & it doesn't feel like little Erik is doing !

Lori - The star decor doesn't surprise me. Texans are a mighty proud lot. Of course, if you think of the number of fleur de lis not so subtly worked into decorating schemes here, it makes it easier to understand. Once y'all get settled, just get you a big ole LSU flag to hang outside (or maybe an LSU license plate - yes, TX has them!) and you'll be shortly surrounded by ex-pats.

Kathy - ugh pretty sums up how I feel about the financial aid process. I was a pre-TOPS student on scholarship, but DH was a completely different story. TOPS would have been so much better than the mess we had to cobble together to get him through school. Let me know if you're having trouble on the LSU end or have questions - I have a few contacts who work @ LSU who may be able to help.

Morning Y'all,

Lori, I'm glad to hear you excited about Texas! Just don't buy a house with that lone star on the door!;)

Mary, Good luck & safe fun for the kids!

Terry, Congrats to your girl & have a fun trip!!!

Jenny, strep & impetigo! Poor Jack.:sad1: Prayers your little man feels better soon!

Nothing much going on here. Spent the day in the pool yesterday. Today DD, A & I are going get pedis & lunch.

Jenny-hope Jack is feeling better

Sheryl- sounds FUN!

Mary- have fun with all those teenage kids-what a blessing they seem to like coming your way!

Ok-so we saw about 3 more houses with the SAME etched glass door with a big Texas star-2 are for sale. I decided that if the house we buy HAS this thing on it- I will take the sucker off the hinges and sell it. It has to be worth $1000 or more(those etched glass doors are pricey!! PLUS if there is not an etched glass star on the door, there is a huge metal star somewhere on the outside of the house. If I catch another one of these I will take a picture just for fun! I mean we are proud but I haven't seen a HUGE metal fleur de lis on a prominent part of the front of the house. I have seen fleur de lis iron work on a fence or something small and pretty, but this is obnoxious looking!

The Woodlands are pretty, but not us, and definitely not in our price range! Everyone mentions them that I know. We picked 3 communities(master planned type) that we will keep our eyes on when the house gets sold, or on its way to being sold. We have 2 more to look at later today and tomorrow-but we have been going since 6am and are back for a nap!

Thanks for taking this journey with me so far-even if you didn't ask for it!!

Lori

Lori - No we didn't ask for this but we sure are enjoying it! Now you must take some pics of the freaking stars!!!!:rotfl2:

Mind if I crash your thread for a moment? :hippie:

I had a major midlife crisis this year(I'm 52) and my sister(51) is headed the same way. The only treatment is a road trip to New Orleans.:rotfl:

We grew up in Pascagoula, MS, and Mobile, AL, so we have been to NOLA before. But this is just going to be a sisters trip, no kids, so we need some help. We'll be there Jun 8-11.

We're staying in the French Quarter and we already know we'll be going to Cafe du Monde, Jackson Square, the riverwalk, a cooking class, Saint Louis Cathedral, etc. We're not big drinkers, but I could be talked into a cocktail or two.

So if we were your out of town family, what would you suggest? We'd like to take a slowboat swamp tour. Not sure about the City tour though--I don't particularly want to go to the Katrina stuff. I've seen enough of that. Are there any life music venues that we MUST SEE? And where in the heck is the best authentic New Orleans food. I am NOT eating at Bubba Gumps again(DDs favorite :sad2:)

Help me out, sistas! I want this trip to be refreshment for two beaten down souls.:flower3:

Hi folks...i am checking in quickly with you guys to say thanks for all of the well wishes...
