Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

It also might give him time to miss you and realize what his life could be like without you if he doesn't shape up. Don't make it easy on him while you're gone. Don't make nice dinners for him to reheat. Let him struggle by on his own. Boy, I didn't realize how mean and rotten I am.

Jan, I like the way you think:thumbsup2:lmao:

Terry, seriously, I hate that you're going through this. Like the rest, I say, have a great trip. Let Disney clear your mind:goodvibes

Kristina, what can I say, beautiful job.

Lorie, I guess I'll keep checking in to see if the little one has made his grand entrance.:cutie:

Tricia, sorry it rained a lot. I hope you managed to still have a good time though.:goodvibes

Hey Y'all,

Lorie, Sorry you're feeling miserable and about the car! That really sucks!

Lori, Go for it! I've always thought your cakes looked really nice. Look at what Stephanie/Mrs Kreamer has done! With what cakes cost & to get something that tastes good too, people will go out of thier way for it. I know DD ordered a cake from a lady in BR for my niece's shower this weekend.

Terry, I don't have anything to add. I agree with everyone, wait till after your trip. I especially agree with Jan's advice. Sending prayers &

Kristina, Great job!:thumbsup2

Tricia, I'm so sad you had bad weather the whole time!! :sad1:

We had a really really good weekend! Although I didn to much walking & I'm paying for it now, but it was totally worth it!

At the last minute, DH & I decided to go to the NOWFE grand tasting. It was really nice! My only complaint would be the food serving portions. It was very hard to eat enough food to keep from getting plastered. It was set up very nice and they ended with a parade with Warren Easton band, Mardi Gras Indians & mini-floats. Then they had a concert from Bonerama!

Sorry I don't have any pics, my batteries died on the 1st one I tried to get. :headache:

Still hungry when we left & finding gorgeous weather, we decided to hit the quarter in search of food. Planned on Maspero's but the lines were too long & we went to Crescent City Brewhouse.

Yesterday we went to church, happened to meet Chris, Alexis, DD & SIL there. Went out to lunch & then came home to watch the Indy 500.

thanks for all your encouragement and kind words!

what a difference a day makes though, from high to low...:confused3

just ranting....didn't check the mail saturday - probably a good thing...so DSS finally sent me the finished ruling on my food stamp fiasco. So I still owe $786. no idea how I am going to pay for this. so went to do the budget - was going to get a new bed for miss g...however, no idea how am even going to pay the bills this month. have been trying to be good and pay cash for everything lately. trying to refinance the house...please pray this goes through. i am worried that this jerk suing our place may have some effect on it. I hope not as we are just refinancing, but a cash buyer was ready to buy then pulled out because of this ridiculous lawsuit.
I am seriously thinking about taking pics of stuff around here and just selling it on something like craigslist? - precious moments collectibles and stuff I used to collect but really don't want anymore. i don't know how to start. I have clutter galore - even if I got a few dollars here and there would be good. I can't get through to him that we can't keep spending money. he is a wuss about collecting money from karate clients. we haven't gotten the verdict about the taxes yet either how much we are going to owe. I woke up with a migraine and I am feeling rather psychotic right now...trying not to start crying hysterically because I don't want to scare grayce and don't think I could stop if I did. sorry - feeling awful physically and this has just totally got me down. thanks for letting me vent. Jeff is too busy worrying about this karate tournament he thinks is going to make "so much money" which I highly doubt....he doesn't see the situation. :headache:

Just my opinion....NOTHING is worth losing that precious time with your DD. Both of you would be missing out on some of the best times in her life.
I agree!

Wow! Looks like a few of us may be at WDW at the same time! We leave on the 30th, coming home on June 5th.
And I just hope that all of you have wonderful, beautiful, sunny weather - and that you appreciate that I took the hit with the rain.:)

I had a good time anyway - but the only sun I saw was the day I arrived (for an hour or two) and the day I left. At least my flights were safe.

Kathy - I was at SSR. It rained so much that I didn't go to the main building which I usually do every day. The rooms are nice - really the same layout at BC just different theming.

The pool is nice - but no comparison to BC. The complex is just huge! I was about as far away from DTD as you can get - so I drove when I went. I don't think I would have walked in the rain anyway. Really the weather was so bad that the parking lot at DTD was half empty - I've never seen that before.

I forgot to pack a poncho (I keep a stack of those cheap ones in New Orleans). I'd been wanting a rain jacket and found a cute one on sale at the Eddie Bauer outlet. It was SO much better than a poncho - I am really glad I bought it. It's bright green so will come in handy at Mardi Gras.

The best thing I did for the rain was to ditch my tennis shoes. I wore a pair of water sandals that I bought at Lands End. The water was over my ankles in parts of Epcot. I felt like I was in New Orleans with all of the flooded streets.

My dad did fine without me. My sister took very good care of him.

Hi everyone....thank you for your kind words of advice....i will wait until i return to deal with everything. I am trying to stay focused and get ready for our trip.

Kristina-
Terry- have fun and
whoever else I missed that is having personal issues:hug:

Well, we are leaving in the morning and i am not packed, no motivation. The girls are packed. i still gotta cook dinner.....ugh...

and my house is a mess. DH and I are on each others nerves. It seems since he got the job we aggravate each other more often-?????:confused3:confused3:confused3???? not getting this.

I waste way too much time on this thing and I havfat find a way to scale back and not miss out on you all and FB. Mostly it is just looking for areas we may want to live:headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache::headache: and we haven't even gone there yet. BUT it will be okay and I know this road trip will bring some peace for us both. We'll REALLY have an idea of where to go!

Then we gotta sell this place......

I'm gonna miss my girls!!!

Lori

Ohh we'll be okay... nuthin a little ice cream won't cure! Gonna get ice cream. I swear I will have to diet once we get settle in Houston, b/c this move is gonna stress me badly! DH is losing weight from spinning so much and I get lazier when I am stressed-tired, etc...

But then again, the food here is SOOOOO much better than in Texas!

Lori

So I had these grand plans of being very productive this weekend. Yeah...that totally didn't happen. :headache: I slept almost the whole day away. I'm frustrated because I have so much to do and just can't get it done. :sad2:

This may have been a weebit of a blessing though. I had planned to put some of the cooler weather clothes in boxes. Well, our high tomorrow is only in the 50s! Guess I might still need some of those clothes... :rolleyes1

Lori... I must be the same as you. I get overwhelmed and lazy and eat too much when stressed. I'm going to need to go on a diet after this move too....that is NOT good! :lmao:

Sing with me! (to the tune of the Subway commercials....)
5
5 more
5 more weekends! :dance3:

Serena  Enjoy that trip!

Lorie  Hang in there! He's coming soon!

Kristina

BETHANY- it is going to be HARD to diet here as a new resident-wanting to try all the yummy's here!! BUT we can do it-I mean look at how well kathy and Sheryl and a couple others have done!! I hope I can lose in Texas as I am not a big fan of Mexican food and BBQ is okay. Of course, I WILL have my NOLA cookbook as well as everything I make anyway at home.

I typically don't eat much in the summer. The heat makes me lose my appetite. I'm hoping that holds true again this year... :rolleyes1

Good morning.

Have ya'll seen the trailer for "The Princess and the Frog"? Its on Disney's website and our city looks beautiful in this movie. Check it out.

Good Morning!

I see there are lots and lots of hugs  needed around here. I feel bad for everyone feeling down...:grouphug:

As far as I'm concerned, all I can say is UGH. I have so many physical complaints right now that I'll just summarize and say "UGH!". Obviously, still no baby yet, which is actually good because my dr doesn't get back into town until tonight. I'm going to try to vacuum and bake pumpkin bread today- if I can get those two things done, I'll feel very accomplished!

:hug::hug::hug: to all who need them.

I need to start looking into student loans, which I know absolutely nothing about. With our financial situation as screwed up as it is because the house still hasn't sold, this may be the only way Kyle can go away to college. I don't know where to begin.:sad2:

Kathy- The way I remember it (this was back in the early-mid nineties though) is that he would first apply for financial aid at the school for anything they may offer. Then, they would offer what they had available for him, which always includes Federal Stafford loans. He would accept that and then go from there. There are also parent loans offered as well which he could accept (I didn't get that because I was emancipated). I never got anything offered but work study and a small Pell grant one year, but they always offered the Stafford loans. He would have to reapply every year (maybe every semester- I forgot). Good luck! The financial aid process is a pain and confusing at first, but once you get used to it, you can do it in your sleep.

Thanks so much Lorie, now I have a starting point.

Kathy - you need to start by filling out a FASFA. You can do that online at this website http://www.fafsa.ed.gov/

You'll need all your tax info for this year, but the form, while long, is not too complicated. Once its completed, they forward the info to the school which in turn puts together a financial aid package. This will include any grants Kyle may qualify for as well as any loans. There are loans that Kyle can receive as well as parent plus loans (which you are responsible for) that may help make up any difference between the aid and the actual cost.
If Kyle qualified for TOPS, that can transfer from Delgado to LSU as well. I'm sure that the financial aid people will be more than helpful, but if its like Southeastern, Kyle will need to give them permission to talk with you about specifics pertaining to his aid. If you any other questions, just ask.

Thanks so much Lauri!!!! Kyle & I are going to work on this. We did the FAFSA form for the 08-09 academic year but all we received was the TOPS award letter, no financial package. That's par for the course for Delgado.

So you're saying we need to contact Delgado to have TOPS award transferred???? Ugh.....:headache::headache:

I'm reading your LONG report, but for the life of me I cannot figure out what RADPers are! :confused3

The camping thing is a bit out of my element also. What is the difference between a trailer and a camper? :confused3

And did Randy ever rebuild his monorail set up? And do you still go every year in December?

Sorry....I'm being a question monster! :rotfl:

No problem. :-)

Let's see....RADPers are anyone who reads or posts to the RADP (rec.arts.disney.parks) newsgroup. It's a USENET group that has been around almost since the internet started. :-) At first it was just RAD (rec.arts.disney) and then in the mid 90's there was a split into several Disney newsgroups, including RADP, the parks group. This was long before all the Disney websites and forums started appearing. So, when I first got on the internet, it was one of the few places I could go to feed my WDW obsession....hehe. I still remain loyal to RADP although I don't post nearly as much as I used to. RADP is where I first met Deb Wills, which led me to her wonderful website. It started off as Deb's Disney Digest, then went to WDWIG (Walt Disney World Information Guide) and then to AllEars. When Deb first asked for volunteers to plan the Third Annual RADP Holiday Meet in 1998, I immediately joined and have been on the planning committee ever since. More information than you ever wanted to know, right? :)

As a side note, RADP actually planned the first MouseFest event in 2003 but when it took off on a life of its own, RADP chose to continue having our own separate, smaller meet. It's a good thing we did because we'll continue with our Annual Meet every year even though MouseFest may or may not be back. This kind of answers your last question out of order, doesn't it? Even though we haven't started official planning for this year yet, you can check out last year's schedule at radp.org We definitely still go every December. This year's meet is set for December 4th through the 7th.

The difference between a trailer and a camper? If someone is referring to camping, there isn't really any difference between a camper and a travel trailer. My husband and I use the different terms to differentiate between the mobile home (trailer) we have out at our property in the country and the travel trailer (camper) we travel in. Sorry it was a little confusing.

Sadly, Randy never brought his huge monorail setup to WDW again after that disastrous year. But he did set it up permanently at his home. He could get even more creative there since it didn't need to be taken down and transported to WDW. Unfortunately, RADP lost Randy about a year ago now to a completely unexpected and massive heart attack. Those of us who knew and loved Randy will miss him always. I never knew anyone quite like Randy. He was a child at heart and loved all things Disney. He was wise and fair and kind. There isn't much better you can say about a person.
