Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Hi everybody!!! WOW! A thread for New Orleans area Dissers!!! I grew up in Marrero (went to Immaculate Conception School & Immaculata High); and moved to the Northshore about 14 years ago. I live in Bush, which is right outside of Covington (very close to the House of Seafood - most people know the House of Seafood buffet).

Anyway, I babysit for the Murphy quads on Saturdays. They are beautiful babies!!!! We have so much fun with them!!! Their dad (and mom) are great people - so sweet!!!! If you can help, PLEASE do! And please keep Mat in your prayers!!!!

Thanks!

Hey Magic! welcome! we are glad to have you here! My friend's sister lives in Bush - Kasey Mix (can't think of her married name).
Kristina

Thanks, ya'll! You've given me some good ideas. We love New Orleans--my kids are jealous green that my sister & I are going and leaving them behind. I've been hearing about it all week. Guess i better bring them back some beignets, or I'll be in the Chateau Chien.

ooh forgot about my favorite - Port of Call!! on Esplanade at edge of quarter. and I am also willing to sacrifice as a tour guide to welcome you to our fair city... :rotfl:

jeff has a karate tournament saturday....so won't be on much until probably Sunday

I'm having a lot of trouble with the DIS. Yesterday, I couldn't get to my freebies post! :mad:Hopefully, everything gets smoothed over fast!!

Like Magic2000, I am from Marrero, moved to Bush 14 years ago. ((I'm her daughter)) & now my husband & I live in Hammond! :] Anybody from the Hammond area? Any SLU lions??:yay:

Well Welcome to you too! I am a westbanker through & through! I moved from Westwego ALLL the way to Marrero, when I go married. Since "the thing" we hope to someday move Northshore, but don't know if it will ever happen.

Hey you Facebookers, I've posted a new video of my very funny neice & her singing skills! It's is so cute & super funny!

Hey y'all!

Just a quick check-in- the last two days have been hectic!

I had a dr appt yesterday and she went over the hospital check-in and pre c-section procedures with me and said "and I'll see you on Wednesday...". Then she did the pelvic exam and said "maybe not...he has dropped really low and you're dilated...". She said it is close, but if I want to try to hold out until Wednesday to go on bedrest- this MAY help, but if wants to come, he wants to come!

So I spent the rest of my day yesterday madly running errands! :rotfl2: So much for taking it easy! I'm doing a few loads of laundry today, but that's it- onto the sofa I go! I've had a lot of mild contractions today, so I'm on high alert- I'll keep y'all posted!

Sheryl- LOVE the video! Sienna loved watching it too and made me replay it for her a few times. It seems like you really enjoy having Alexis there- y'all do so many fun things together!

Welcome Magic2000 and ThunderMTexpert!

Lori- I had to laugh about the big Texas star on the door! We noticed that too in Houston- Texans are really proud. Make sure you have lots of Fleur de Lis!

Serena- i hope you're having a wonderful, relaxing time!

minkydog- I always tell people to do the tours- there are so many to choose from! Cemetery tours, plantation tours, haunted history tours, etc- but these do require some walking. As far as restaurants go, I love Port of Call, the Gumbo Shop, Napoleon House, Petunia's...and I believe some other's I love have been mentioned also (Cafe Maspero, Deanie's, Mother's). And Criossant Do'r for breakfast pastries if you get Cafe Du Monded out. Have a great time!

Lorie, It sure doesn't sound like Erik is going to wait until Wednesday! Please have Todd call one of us & let us know. Do you need me to do anything for you? Anymore errands I can run for you? I'll pm you. Glad Sienna enjoyed the video! The child really does brighten my days!

Jenny, Have fun!

Yep, anytime! I can't wait to meet him either! :goodvibes

Thanks! I'll let y'all know if I can, unless things go really quickly, then you'll be hearing from DH!

I'm going to try my best to hold him off, if I can. I know that sounds crazy- most pregnant women try their hardest to get the baby OUT, but I'm this close to the scheduled c-section that I'm going to try to make it. Since I have to deal with the c-section, I may as well have the benefit of having it scheduled since it is more convenient that way (especially with having a younger child that will be staying with MIL).

I feel like I've frequented every business in town the last few days! My last trip yesterday was big shopping at Whole Foods, and I was so scared that my water would break in there- that would be too embarrassing! But at least DH would have a good excuse to get out of work. ;)

DH has kind of been freaking out with my all of my errand running (and the money I've been spending) but he doesn't understand- the freezer/pantry, diapers, wipes, household goods, pet supplies, etc are so stocked that we won't have to leave the house for a long time! :rotfl: I learned last time with Sienna, when I had nothing prepared, and DH had to do the errand running, that it isn't really his forte'. Lots of things bought that had to get returned, wrong items, wrong sizes, and we ate fast food and takeout almost every day. :crazy2: I really want things to be smooth sailing this time for everyone, well as best as it can be...;)

Lorie, wow, is really close now!!! I can't wait to see his pictures.:)

Sheryl, the video is so cute. Please post more. Maybe she could do a song a week:goodvibes

Jenny, have a great time!

minkydog, you got some really good suggestions. The only thing I would add to that would a tour of the St. Louis Cathedral and lunch at Stanley!restaurant across the street (sorry if someone mentioned that earlier, but I didn't see it if ya'll did). This restaurant opened not too long ago and its a sandwich place/soda fountain type place. Everything is made on sight, including the ice cream. Its owners also own Stella! which is located down the street. Stella is fancier with their dining. I went there for my birthday and I would highly recommend it also. I would go for their beet salad alone. I hope you have a nice visit here.

Lorie- that is really exciting! It is so close! I know you want to wait until Wednesday, but I'm sure things will work out just fine even if he does make an early appearance!

Another week down. Just 4 left! Omg so much to do in that time! I'm still having issues with the post office. They lost some important paperwork for the background chek for housing and so now I have to send it again. I am upset about that because I am concerned about identity theft, and the post office will only tell me "it should have been there by now, there's nothing we can do..." ugh.

But it's Friday! Woot!

Lorie, I'll say some prayers that everything goes as scheduled! :flower3: I can understand wanting to have everything ready. Especially if you ate a lot of fast food last time around.

Bethany, I'm sorry about your lost mail! They didn't give you a tracking number? I don't understand, if it's certified they should be able to find the darn thing!

Mary, I'd love to post a song a week, but you'd have her making up the lyrics. Believe me the songs she says "she's written" are not the best! They are quite nonsensical! They usually sound like this, "I love the trees and the birds, I love you too, let's rock!"

I'm excited! :cool1: DH wants to take a customer out to dinner. This should be interesting we are taking a British guy to Cochon! I've never been there but have been wanting to try it.

You've certainly done what you could to ensure it!! Now it's time to slow down my friend. My thoughts and prayers are with you. Call me if you need anything.

When something is sent certified there is a tracking # right? It can't just be lost.

I've been wanting to go there too!!! Want to hear all about it tomorrow!:thumbsup2 Geez, I'm going to a baseball game followed by dinner at O'Henry's......:rolleyes1

*Long Version Alert* ;)

It has a tracking number. That is how I know it has not gone anywhere. This is what I get when I look up the number:

Your item was accepted at 3:50 PM on May 19, 2009 in BRONX, NY [zip code]. Information, if available, is updated periodically throughout the day. Please check again later.

I called them (800 number) on the 27th and they said they would "look into it" and call me back. When they called me back, I was asleep so I called them today at the local number they called me from. They were less than helpful. They said they have to wait 30 days to see if it "turns up"; it may come back to me. If it's been 30 days then I can file a claim (to do WHAT? :confused3) I do not HAVE 30 days to wait for them.

They said it's possible it was received on the other end but not scanned. So I called the NOPD and they looked - they have NOT received it.

The USPS (here) also said that it's possible that NOLA HAS it and THEY have lost it in the post office; they are hanging onto it and not doing anything with it. (Unlikely? WTH would they want extra mail just hanging around? :confused3)

And it's also unlikely that it's just sitting around another post office, because on another item, it lists that it arrived at the post office for the destination zip code, like such:
Delivered, May 18, 2009, 9:11 am, BROOKLYN, NY 11201
Arrival at Unit, May 16, 2009, 6:16 am, BROOKLYN, NY 11201
Acceptance, May 15, 2009, 1:39 pm, BRONX, NY [zip code]

AND I have more missing mail. :headache: My debit card that they bank told me online that they sent me never arrived - I went to the bank today and they canceled it so it can't be activated.

And I don't know if you remember, but on the WFD thread when we did the Christmas card exchange, this is the same zip code/post office that was closed not once, but TWICE on days it was supposed to be open.

What is WITH these people?!?

We ate at Stanley! and the food was very good. I'm particular-VERY PARTICULAR- and I give it 4 stars.

Lori, I cannot believe that Erik is almost here:cheer2:.

Piglet, 4 weeks will be here before you know it.:dance3:

minkydog, you'll love New Orleans. It's my favorite city in the whole world.:yay:

Oh,yeah! We love New Orleans. When I was a teenager we used to drive over from Mobile on the weekends. 'Course,my deeply Southern Baptist mother was completely scandalized by the souvenier shops:laughing: If she knew we were going to get our tea leaves read, she really would have a fit.

Thanks for the tips. We'll definitely check out some of these restaurants. I'm on Weight Watchers, so I'm really trying to be good this week and next. I don't particularly want to diet while I'm in the home of the Best Food In The World.:yay:
