Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Lori - I figured you didn't (I didn't either) but I wanted to be clear! (Especially after all the nonsense of the spring...:headache:) That is great news about your garage sale!

The plan today was to go to Metairie and go to the Eastbank Library, Cafe du Monde, and WalMart or Target. What REALLY happened is my DH found the books he needed at the Westbank Library and so we just ran out to that one and then to Target and the ATM and Wendy's. He has to drive up to Baton Rouge sometime soon - probably this week - and I am :scared:!

About Wendy's: We haven't eaten there since NYC. The strange thing is that both of us said "hmmm...I remember this being better". :confused3 Now, is Wendy's here just bad, or have we just had better food? :rolleyes1

Tomorrow we are going out to Chalmette for a BBQ with friends. :yay: I have not seen them since February. :confused3 We are hoping the weather behaves itself.

Julie - I hope the doctor's can help her out, and I'm sorry you're having to go through this.

Goodnight everybody. :grouphug:

Hi Gang - just checking in.

Today was my mom's birthday so my sister and her kids came over to celebrate with us. But before that I was in the vet's office for most of the morning it seemed. :scared1: Kodi was limping and was unable to walk on her right hind leg; the vet said she has a Luxating Patella which is a dislocated kneecap. This is a common digenerative problem in small breeds. She gave us some pain meds to help her thru this week to see if it heals by itself but if it doesn't surgery is the last recourse. My poor baby was yelping when they were examining her. :sad1:

We went to the Jonas Brothers concert tonight with my friend and her daughter. It was really nice however I should have remembered my ear plugs. Those girls had some lungs on them.

Terry, :grouphug: So proud of that girl of yours! May she have 7.5 years of :teacher::yay: adventure...
Thanks Cara, I too am very proud of my girl.

Thanks for all the good thoughts for my boy, y'all are the best! I probably won't be able to catch up here until Monday, Johnny & I are going back to Baton Rouge tomorrow. Kyle forgot a few things and that's my excuse to go back. He says that he and Mariah are going to try and work things out but he's not in any hurry to do it. I laughed so hard, as soon as we got to his apartment complex we walked by the pool and there were at least a dozen bikini clad girls and of course Kyle & Johnny were checking them out and I heard Johnny ask Kyle if he'd heard from Mariah yet today and Kyle said Mariah who?:rotfl2: Seriously I know how much he cares for her and I just want him to be happy, with or without her.

I did pretty well until it was time to come home then the tears were flowing. I'll be OK, thanks to all my great friends here. Johnny has the day off next Friday and since we didn't really get to see the complex and the campus as much as we wanted to, we're planning a trip Friday and we'll do some campus touring and take Kyle and his roommates out to lunch!:goodvibes

Good for Kyle. :thumbsup2 That sounds like a nice Friday trip...enjoy.

Rie and I went to Children's to see my niece. Her blood pressure is going up but her pulse is low, so she'll have another MRI tomorrow or Monday-her 5th since last week. Rie and she are very close and Rie was upset when we left because my niece does not have the same personality she did before the illness. She used to smile and laugh all the time and now she does neither. Her smile is lopsided because the muscles on the left side of her body were affected by the disease. She cannot move her left arm at all and her left leg is very weak. The doctors think it is ADEM or
Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis - a neurological disorder characterized by inflammation of the brain and spinal cord caused by damage to the myelin sheath.

 to guys...I know this must be hard for Rie. Hopefully your niece will recover soon.

Anyways, I've seen a lot of places that if you don't want a puppy to chew on something, you can put some hot sauce on it to deter them. Well, I don't have any hot sauce (shhh), but I do have some Slap Ya Mama. So, in a pinch, I tried that. :rotfl: THAT backfired miserably - Anabelle is a Louisiana dog and it turns out she LOVES Slap Ya Mama. :headache: :rotfl2:
WTH...that dog of yours is a hoot! :rotfl:

Lori - I am glad the GS turned out ok. I know it must have been hard selling your kids stuff...

GM and Happy Sunday.

Kathy how are you doing girl? I thought of you when I read this: http://www.wdsu.com/news/20412783/detail.html. Please tell Kyle to be careful and vigilant.

Today we are heading to a Welcome to 5th grade pizza party. :yay: Naturally I'm a bit anxious about DD going to a new school but so far I'm feeling very loved and accepted.

Man looks like we will have a very wet and soggy week. Not sure what the TS will do. :confused3

Hope everyone enjoys their day.

Hey, sorry I have been soapboxing lately:rolleyes1

Just wanted to say hey and goodnight and let you knwo we told our kids about the trip. We found out a bunch of thier friends found out(from thier mom and then from each other) and we didn't want a slip, plus WE wanted to tell them 1st.... so we did ok, I guess.....28 days out. They do not have a long wait:woohoo:

So much for our airport plans-but I think it is better this way for Haley who is sorta scared to fly. Gives her time to see her daddy go and come back 2x from Texas-safely.

Now just praying for no hurricanes in September! In Florida. In central Florida. Or here. OH, just let them all skirt the east coast!

Lori

BTW- they were THRILLED and squealing like they had never been before in their lives-it was great!

Lori, Sorry you had to tell your girls early, but I bet it is a huge relief for you now that you can talk about it at home, with them:woohoo: you kept it up longer than I could have!

Kat, how are you doing? I have been thinking of you all weekend.

Sorry about Kodi,Terry, hope that she is feeling better and doesn't need surgery.

Well, I screwed up. On Friday I stocked my freezer. With meat.:scared1: Of course, if you watched the weather you know what happened... so to make amends... we secured our garage door opening finally, so the storms are not coming here. I learned my lesson....

Soapboxing is good for your health.:thumbsup2
I would have let the secret slip very early in the game. My mouth runs before my brain processes:rotfl:. Now, y'all can all have fun getting ready for the trip!

If we have a hurricane coming our way, make sure you secure your garage. Apparently, this bit of magic makes the storms lessen in intensity!

So, it's your fault we went from 0 to 3 tropical systems almost overnight?!? Glad someone's explaining to Piglet how this works!

Of course, I've got a freezer full as well. Maybe since we did the shrimp & quarter-calf in June, the weather gods weren't quite awake yet???

Glad to hear you got the garage door project done. Now, is there anyone else with pending home improvement projects we need to know about? Those tend to be storm magnets as well! ;) DSis is partially to blame for Gustav, you know, because of their decision to install a patio. :upsidedow

Terry - How's Kodi today? Poor lil thing must've been miserable. Hope DD is enjoying her 1st week as a 5th grader.

Lori- Y'all did better than I would have by holding out to less than a month away. Sounds like it was still an enjoyable surprise!

Rie's mom- Thinking about your niece. Hoping she's showing signs of improvement.

We're hoping the MRI today will explain why her blood pressure keeps spiking but her pulse is low. On Friday, we were hoping sh'ed come home this week but now with the BP issues, I don't know if that will happen. Thanks for the thoughts!!!

kmores - are you still out there? Feel up to sharing some advice? IIRC, you have some experience with karate / tkd / martial arts with DH. My oldest is showing interest in lessons, and I'm wondering if you had any references in the BR / Gonzales / Prairieville area. If not, any tips on what to look for in a reputable school? This is totally new territory for me, and I'd really appreciate some guidance.

Kathy - How'd the weekend go? All settled in? Thought about you when I read the headlines about swine flu hitting Sorority Row. As if y'all didn't have enough to worry about already! Hope it all went smoothly.

Morning NOLA.

O my goodness. I feel as if my child started school for the 1st time. :sad1: :sad1: I have all of these feelings bottled inside of me. She did ok but she finally told me this morning she was SO nervous because it's a new school and because she doesn't know many people. I consoled her as best I could. It's so hard being a mother; there is only so much you can do for them....just another experience in their lives. She allowed me to walk her into the school and let me hold her hand. :thumbsup2 I take pictures of her in the same spot in my house on the 1st day each year so she allowed me to do that but she refused to let me take any more.:sad1:

Kodi is doing better it seems....no limping but she is on meds so maybe this is helping with any pain.

Lorie - I too am sorry your surprise was spoiled. At least you were able to tell them before someone else did. Don't sweat it about being on a soapbox; we all need to talk/vent. :goodvibes

Cara - thank you for reminding me about not buying alot of meat. I will use all I have now and go back every week to get enough for a weeks time.

Ries'mom - I have been thinking about your niece all weekend and praying she will recover 100%.

Kathy girl how are you doing this morning?

Kat, how are you doing? I have been thinking of you all weekend.

I'm doing OK, still have to resist the urge to call him 25 times a day. He called a few times yesterday to tell me that the water stinks and he left two pairs of his favorite shorts home....:rotfl:

It went well! Johnny & I are going up Friday to spend some time touring the campus with Kyle and I decided to cook up a pot of Shrimp Monica to take to the boys with a stuffed artichoke and garlic bread for their dinner. We're going to take them out to lunch too!:goodvibes

Kathy girl how are you doing this morning?

I said some special prayers for you & Aly this morning. She will be just fine Mom, and so will you....job well done.

I'm OK, miss him terribly already, but I'm sure this too will get better.:sad1:

The water stinks??? Does he means smells bad / tastes funny or is it getting used to the fact that the water here is soft?

BR uses deep aquifer well water for its system, not treated river water as most would expect, so the water is different. It takes me a while to remember I have to use much more soap/shampoo to get a lather when I spend time on the bayou. If he's doing laundry (or dishes in the dishwasher), warn him not to use too much soap, or there will be suds for days!

Shrimp Monica + stuffed artichoke???? Lordy, woman, these boys will hire you as house mother if you keep that up!

Need any recommendations on a lunch spot or have they picked a favorite?

I'm not sure what they're talking about, he said they turned the dishwasher on yesterday and it stunk. The shower water too.....:confused3

I'd love to be hired as house mother.:upsidedow

He mentioned "Walk On's" for lunch, know anything about it?

I was gonna say something like, you must have a plan to get him to ask you back up ecery weekend, or at least his friends will want you!! Good thinking Kathy, good thinking...:rolleyes1 I am taking notes.......

They're not gonna want to let you go!

Nothing spoiled:goodvibes- we already got the coutdown link going(like 2 seconds after getting home from lunch (where we told them). My hubby was hilarious- he was almost dancing in the booth at Chili's yesterday while telling them we won't be having bunny bread ham sandwiches to carry around every other day b/c we have the dining plan- it was troo funny. I'll try to post a pic of it but it is on his phone and he is in Austin for the night.

So what do 3 girls do when daddy's gone? Have a slumber party!!! We have 3 friends coming over and I am going to stuffmart for pizza, ice cream and pedicure items!! Hannah Montana movie is out so i MAY get that too. If not, we will be watching lots of Disney princess movies as this is the family that will be in WDW at the same time as we are!!!:cutie::cutie::cutie::cutie::cutie:

Have a good one and know all who have asked for prayers are getting some from the northshore.

Lori

You and Johnny will be the most popular parents at LSU!!!

I read in the paper last week that the yuck smell is from whatever they're using to treat the water for algae.

YUM!!!
You'll have about a million friend's requests!

Hey Y'all,

Alexis & I are feeling much better! Tried to squeeze in the last little bit of summer. We woke up early, made blueberry pancakes & got in a swim before the sky started falling.

Terry, I'm very sorry to hear about Kodi. I hope her leg heals up without surgery. I hope your girl has a smooth start in her new school!

Julie, Praying that your niece improves.:flower3:

Lori, I'm glad the girls are so excited!

Kathy, Reading your posts about Kyle makes me feel like I'm in a time warp! I remember getting the phone call about the stinky water. And I think the first place we went for lunch was Walk Ons! The girls were excited to see us because I always brought food. My enchiladas were always requested to exams. I'm glad you are feeling a little better about him being there. It's really not far & you will always be a welcomed visitor!

:wizard:..... so the rules to stay in your kids life during college are FOOD, food, and more food-and not only that, GOOD home cooked meals....hmmmm, I better learn to cook a little better then!!

:hug:I started to cry on Rie's first day last week. She thought I was funny.

WHy does our pain make our kids laugh???? Ash laughs at me if I tear up over something she does, says, or whatever. Haley seems to get it right now! She'll come give me a hug.

I am now having 4 extra kids over!!

Lori
