Metro New Orleans DISers - check in!!! - 03/2009

Rie wants to stay at Ft. Wilderness for our first weekend, so I booked it today. It is an old family favorite because we stayed there when the boys were little. Rie loves it because it was her first Disney resort. Now that she is in high school, she gets sentimental sometimes.

Kat, you're in my thoughts.

Marie has the crud today. Fever, coughing, etc, are making her miserable. Hope you guys feel better soon!!!

It's nice that you have a teenager that gets sentimental!

I'm sorry Marie is sick! I hope she gets well soon!

It really is wonderful. For a year we went through the mamma/daughter arguments. About 2 months ago, she reverted to her old sweet self. All I can say is prayer works!!!

Hi gang.

Thank you all for your well wishes. This morning turned out great! Alysia was so into decorating her locker! Uhm it took about 45 min. to an hour. :rotfl2: Mom's this is yet another 1st in her life. Of course mom took pics. ;)

We then went to NO Food and Spirit for lunch then home for a long 3 hour nap. We just awoke.

Kathy I can't imagine how you must be feeling since your baby is moving out! I cry easily at the small things Alysia has been experiencing lately. I too will be in your shoes in about 7.5 years.

Sheryl I'm glad to hear you are recovering quickly. :)

Lori, are you ready for your garage sale

Rie'smom - I hope Rie feels better soon. We love the WL as well; we stay there all the time. :thumbsup2

That is nice! My DD didn't get back to normal until 19.

Just wanted to stop in and ask for good thoughts and prayers for my boy. He & Mariah are having issues, big ones. I'm praying he comes out of this with his heart unbroken, but it's not looking promising. This is the last thing he needs while starting his new life.:sad1:

Awe I am so sorry girl...hopefully they can work it out. Keeping my fingers crossed for them.

:hug:I'm sorry. There's nothing worse than seeing your baby in pain. Just to let you know that if it doesn't work out, they come through it:

B, our 33 year old son, went through this his last year in college. He had already bought an engagement ring for his girlfriend and then found out she was cheating while he studied for finals. It was tough on him but he dodged a bullet.

P,our 25 yo went through this too right before he started college but it worked out because he now has the most wonderful girlfriend. She's perfect for him.

oh Kathy- I hope whatever happens that it is for the best for both of them, esp Kyle!

Terry- sounds like a good day.....

and we are ready, I hope, for the garage sale. We actually had a lady ask if she could root through when we were just taking everything out to organize it tonight. I was like, "umm, not really". Another thing that happened is that this kid was going around taking all of the flyers out of everyones boxes who are selling. We caught him in the act and so he didn'tg to take all of ours- he said his dad told him to get them and he was throwing them all over the street. i was peeeeeoooo'd, as was Paul. Nevertheless, the next morning-all of our flyers were gone. These people just put thier home on the market last week- and they live WAY down in the next block. I never knew before how rude people can be and what kind of adult is this kid gonna be??!!!:sad2:

Also, and this isn't so bad, but one of our next door neighbors, who I will call "Mercedes gal" avoids us at all costs. her hubby is SO nice and they have been there since January and we say hello to her face and she runs inside- not once has she acknowledged us:eek:. She is called ''Mercedes gal' for the obvious so i am thinking she has a chip on her shoulder-not b/c of having a Mercedes, but for having a Mercedes in a Camry/minivan/pickup truck/medium sz car neighborhood! And she is very obvious about avoiding us- it is a joke, even to the kids now. When we pull up and she is in her car, getting out of it, or in the front yard for whatever reason, the kids say, 'run run mercedes girl, we're home!!" I guess our camry and minivan are trashy to her:rolleyes1:rotfl:he cannot talk to any of us. We told them abou the garage sale and she moved her car WAY over and put her hubby's truck(pick up BTW) on the other side and a car across thier driveway so no one blocks them in(understandable).

Hope it all goes well tomorrow- all the $$ from the garage sale is going back to money we have put out on the house this week!!

27 days!!!!:rolleyes1

Terry, I so glad that she is happy & that Mom got a nap!

Lori, I can't believe those neighbors told thier kid to do that! Some people are just beyond belief!:sad2:

Kathy, I'm sorry Kyle is going through this right now.

I'm sorry but I have to ask for more prayers. Our aide went to the ortho dr for knee pain & is having surgery on Monday. This means we are now without an aide starting on Mon. I don't go back to the dr until the 25th! We have called the agency, but I doubt they will find us someone by Monday. Of course Alexis also starts school this week. The nurse pract. said I could try moving DH, which I did Wed. morning when she was a no show. I was fine but was being very careful. I know typical mornings I'll be rushing & not able to focus on being careful. We are probably going to have to get family to help. Bob was so upset, he didn't even want to talk about it this evening, just wanted to watch the Saints.

sometimes we just need to escape from our troubles- glad they won so he could really enjoy it!:wizard:

In my prayers.

At first we gave the dad the benefit of the doubt thinking he was telling his kd to get ONE flyer to see what we all are asking- but when all were missing by 10am on a school day and were there at 1am the night before(we went to see the meteors)- I am really thinking the dad did this. It was great seeing Paul catch the kid in the act that day. Paul saw the kid throw the other homes flyers all over the street. It just maddens me b/c of the cost- I spent $75 on flyers so far and thankfully only had about 1/4 of them out there. I hope I am not blaming the wrong person, but it was so obvious!
:mad::mad::mad:

PLUS- if I asked my kids to do something that they thought was wrong, I REALLY hope they'd question me about it and tell me they think it is wrong. Obviously this kid is scared enough of his dad that he doesn't question it and brings it to the next level by throwing it everywhere.

There are times and places for complete obedience when it is a safety situation-like stuff we told the kids to do tomorrow(with strangers coming over)- but it is another thing when something your parents ask you to do makes you "feel iffy" or feels wrong or whatever on any given day. JMHO

I am gonna mention this to my girls tomorrow. Good life lesson.:teacher:

Lori, I doubt this child has been raised with the morals your children have. Plus who knows what goes on in that house, he may be very afraid not to do what his father told him to do. Very sad.

One week down.. hopefully many more good ones to come! Did watch most of the game, :cheer2: I do prefer for them to lose in preseason though... save the talent for shock and awe later, but that is why I am not the coach.

Kat, you are in my thoughts this weekend. I know you don't want Kyle heartbroken, but sometimes, it is for the best. I can't tell you how thrilled I am NOW that I was heartbroken at the ripe age of 19, especially after hearing how he turned out. He will be fine in the end. I am worried about you though my friend:hug:.

Sheryl, so sorry about the aide. I hope that they are able to get one soon for you. Glad Alexis and you are feeling better

Julie, hope that things are still looking up for you.. haven't had a chance to look to far back.. hope that Rie and your neice are doing better.

Terry, :grouphug: So proud of that girl of yours! May she have 7.5 years of :teacher::yay: adventure...

Lorie, please tell Sienna I have one cat who would love to go through her catwash...

Bethany, glad you survived your first week:surfweb:

All is good here... can't wait until next week when the boys start school. My two favorite weeks of school is the first and the last for them... not too much homework :scared1: I have been staying in a routine, wake up, take Mingus for a walk, leave... hope that can stick around. I must teach Logan how to make breakfast. He is my :flower3: AM child.

Lori.. WOW.. all I can say is wow. That family is something else.

I asked my kids this morning what they would do and Haley said she'd say , "no, you go do it, you're the momma" which I somehow completely believe:rotfl:, b/c she is much more outspoken, but Ashton said she's ask me why, then probably do it b/c we are her parents, if we still insisted. Interesting!

Anyway- garage sale is going OK, but not great, not yet......Ashton and Haley are raising money for Give Kids the World by selling lemonade and so far they have made $3 and not given out ONE lemonade!

I forgot to tell you that our family tries to do a "project" once a year- usually it is the same thing or we change it up every so often. But maybe you can help us for this one if you choose to.

Give Kids the World has a "wish list" that we are trying to collect items for and mail it off right before our WDW trip.

It is a lot of simple things..... here is the link....

I'll let you know how we do later-after a nap.:woohoo:

Thanks for all the good thoughts for my boy, y'all are the best! I probably won't be able to catch up here until Monday, Johnny & I are going back to Baton Rouge tomorrow. Kyle forgot a few things and that's my excuse to go back. He says that he and Mariah are going to try and work things out but he's not in any hurry to do it. I laughed so hard, as soon as we got to his apartment complex we walked by the pool and there were at least a dozen bikini clad girls and of course Kyle & Johnny were checking them out and I heard Johnny ask Kyle if he'd heard from Mariah yet today and Kyle said Mariah who?:rotfl2: Seriously I know how much he cares for her and I just want him to be happy, with or without her.

I did pretty well until it was time to come home then the tears were flowing. I'll be OK, thanks to all my great friends here. Johnny has the day off next Friday and since we didn't really get to see the complex and the campus as much as we wanted to, we're planning a trip Friday and we'll do some campus touring and take Kyle and his roommates out to lunch!:goodvibes

Bikini clad girls are allways a distraction for boys no matter their age:rotfl:.

Rie and I went to Children's to see my niece. Her blood pressure is going up but her pulse is low, so she'll have another MRI tomorrow or Monday-her 5th since last week. Rie and she are very close and Rie was upset when we left because my niece does not have the same personality she did before the illness. She used to smile and laugh all the time and now she does neither. Her smile is lopsided because the muscles on the left side of her body were affected by the disease. She cannot move her left arm at all and her left leg is very weak. The doctors think it is ADEM or
Acute Disseminated Encephalomyelitis - a neurological disorder characterized by inflammation of the brain and spinal cord caused by damage to the myelin sheath.

Kathy! It's good to hear from you how it went today. It sounds like the anticipation was almost worse than it actually happening, because you sound a little better today.

So yes, as Cara mentioned, I survived my first week of working in Louisiana! :woohoo: Compared to what I got used to, it was not a difficult week to survive. Dare I say I enjoyed it? I'm not ready for the kids to come yet, but we have 3 more days before they come so it's all good. :thumbsup2 I can say that this school is WAY more relaxed than the one in NY, but it's not like they're lazy. They still have a lot to do and they CARE, but they're not stressed out like everybody was in NY. :upsidedow And at least so far, I haven't taken any work home yet. I feel like I'm forgetting something when I walk out of the building at the end of the day with just my purse. Yet people keep asking me if I regret moving here. Uh...no. :confused3

Bethany- I am so happy your first week was so good!! I hope you DO enjoy our more laid back lifestyle. And no, we are NOT lazy, we just are not on the fast track flying by so fast that nothing is noticed like in BIG cities. We notice things! We say "hello", we bring you to food when you are down and out:lovestruc..... nothing against NYC!

OMGosh, I SO see Paul and I doing this when we are "there". I already told my children that we'd be following wherever they go! 'Course if it is 2 different directions we'll be splitting that time! I'd say you are doing fine and things will get easier and you'll adjust to this new lifestyle. I have no previous experience but you sound like you are on a good path!

 That is so sad and I am so sorry. I do so hope it is something that is reversible and with time, she can be back to herself. Medicine can be amazing these days, but we have a long way to go too.

Just to clarify...I didn't intend to imply anybody was lazy. :goodvibes At my school in NYC, if you were relaxed it was sort of assumed you weren't doing your job, because if you were, then you were too stressed and busy to be relaxed. :headache:

Anyways, I've seen a lot of places that if you don't want a puppy to chew on something, you can put some hot sauce on it to deter them. Well, I don't have any hot sauce (shhh), but I do have some Slap Ya Mama. So, in a pinch, I tried that. :rotfl: THAT backfired miserably - Anabelle is a Louisiana dog and it turns out she LOVES Slap Ya Mama. :headache: :rotfl2:

Bethany, I wasn't saying that derogatorily(IS THAT A WORD?) about the fast pace of NYC or the slower pace of NOLA. I didn't take it offensively and hope you didn't either. All is good. I guess tones cannot be "heard" so things can get miscontrued. Anyway, I meant it all in a POSITIVE manner, hoping you get to experience more of that southern hospitality!

Just so you know, I am in a somewhat giddy mood, possibly about to CRASH. The sale went okay, we have enough to pay for our dogs to be taken care of when we are gone. I had some "moments" today- letting go of the past that had flown by and it sorta hurt.

Anyway, I put out an ad on Craigslist for a free freezer, then on my homeschool email chain. I was crackin' up b/c I got 2 calls and 3 emails all in like 2 minutes for it! We put it out on the driveway, and it was gone in about 15 minutes! It is old, ugly and has a slight smell(told them all this stuff) that I hadn't bothered with b/c of all the garage sale stuff blocking my way! Amazing what happens to homeschoolers when FREE is in the title!! :goodvibes- we go into a frenzy- I think it is due to most of us struggling to be SAHM's, some more than others. Had to delete the Craigslist post!

Anyway- it was a weeding out day and most got donated, incl my kids baby bedding:guilty:. But the people that came to take the unsold items are raising money for adopting a baby girl. We even called the adoption agency to verify. Sweet couple trying to raise $24,000. Even if it wasn't legit, well that is on them and I have stuff out of my garage. We asked them to email us when they get her-too sweet!

sorry so long!

Lori
