Menu change at Ohana's Dinner

We were tossing around either Kona or Ohana for dinner and we went with Kona because the entrees appealed to us so much more than Ohana. The main attraction at Ohana was the dessert but we won't book a restaurant for dinner ONLY because of the dessert looks appealing. Nice to know we have a shot at being able to get it from Kona. I will ask our server as soon as we sit down at Kona if it would be possible to get the Ohana bread pudding as our dessert that evening, so we give them time to get it. If they can't do it, then we will just have to "force" ourselves to enjoy something from Kona for dessert!

Thats a joke right? LOL, I thought Kona had some pretty yummy desserts !! In fact, I'd go there and be quite content with only ordering desserts

My parents had the same experience.

My dad has celiacs. My mom noticed rolls that the people around them had. She thought maybe they were extra, but realized they were bringing them to every table. So she politely asked the server about them, and he responded "You have an allergy." Only one of the 5 had an issue and he was smart enough to realize that if it was BREAD that he couldn't eat it.

I think they do that just to be safe. Better to require the rest of the table to request it then to bring it and have something bad happen. This way they have a general policy that covers all allergy situations instead of having to remember 100 different policies depending on the allergy.

It really depends on the restaurant. At CRT, they gave us a basket with pastries in it and I didn't allow my niece to take any as we didn't know what was in them.

At The Wave, I took one look at the spaggetti the CM brought out and said that my niece can't have cheese. She took it back and brought out the one that was for my niece. While I was in the washroom with my niece, she left our desserts at the table. My niece's was a make your own sundae, after the earlier mix up I took the chocolate sauce away and left it off to the side-the CM came over and told me it was dairy free.

All ADR's I made had her dairy allergy on it and I also had sent in the ADR form to special diets, so the chefs came out and talked to my niece at the restaurants.

All I can say that Ohana will have to go severly downhill in order for it to lose its place as my favorite. Of course it has its ups and downs, as does everything else. It has occasional off nights. But its always our last meal of the vacation because we want it to be our last memory of the trip. Everybody I've ever taken there loves it an I can't imagine a WDW vaca that didn't include Ohana.
