Menu change at Ohana's Dinner

We ate at 'Ohana last Friday, and it was a highlight of our trip. Yes, there was shrimp on skewers (unlike the peel-and-eat shrimp we expected) and chicken instead of turkey. But we really enjoyed the food (potstickers...yum!) even though we'd been worried about the Maui potatoes being gone (we hadn't been there since 2007). I loved the noodles and steak, as well. The chicken wasn't overdone for us, but I personally wasn't as big on the pork. Isn't it funny how everyone sees things differently? Our service was fine - not outstanding, but definitely enough. Our only beef was that we were sat in the very first room you come into, across from the kitchen - not the main room. We felt a little "out of the loop." However, the entertainment lady (no one in my party can remember her name!!) came over and dragged my DH and his brother to be the limbo pole holders - grass skirts and all! We got it on video, and it was too funny!

The noodles were good, weren't they. They actually brought an extra bowl for DD since she loves noodles (she's 18 :rotfl2:) We also got a second bowl of the wings. :thumbsup2

I just don't like dry meat at all so the chicken wasn't my favorite. But, everyone else liked it so that was just because of my preferences.

They were so nice and brought DD a giant cupcake and cheered for her to celebrate her graduation this year.

Shrimp was there on Saturday. It was the turkey that was gone and replaced with the chicken. I actually liked the shrimp. I also really liked the pork dumplings. I forgot to add that in my initial post.

Is the Chicken breast are various parts? I really dont care for dark meat

The chicken was all white meat.

DH wanted me to add that he agrees that the steak was overdone.

Did I mention how much I loved the dessert!!:love:

Is there another restaurant on property that generates more vehement opinions than 'Ohana? Reviews vary everywhere, but 'Ohana is incredibly polarizing to the extent that a seemingly minor menu change is analyzed and studied for weeks.

I still love 'Ohana. I last ate dinner there in January and had a wonderful experience. I acknowledge I have not tried the new chicken, but I cannot imagine it is that much worse than turkey. How bad can it be? I will continue to enjoy 'Ohana until given a reason to feel otherwise.

WCC! Except my family's opinions are reversed on the two. We love Ohana and strongly disliked WCC (only place in WDW I won't try again). But yes, you're correct in that both are polarizing.

Anybody know when they made the switch? I ask because when we were there about 3 weeks ago on a Friday night, the server kept asking if we wanted more turkey and then kept correcting himself to say chicken. At the time, I assumed he was trying to make it more appealing to DD5 (which, in retrospect, makes no sense), but I wonder now if they had just made the switch and they were getting used to it.

I do agree that it, whatever fowl it was, seemed a little dry (but not terribly so), but the rest of the meats that night were perfect, the noodles & wings were great, and the banana bread pudding to die for (and I'm not a big banana fan).

They told me on last Saturday night that it had been about 2 weeks.

Which probably means that it was right around the time that you were there.

Phew I read the thread title and thought oh no not again! at least its not the dumplings! my life would end ;)

If there is an allergy at the table then they skip your table with anything that contains that ingredient.

At breakfast they never brought around the Mickey waffles as my niece is lactose intollerant. I had to ask the waitress for some as I would have left very hungry as I don't like scrambled eggs or sausage.

My parents had the same experience.

My dad has celiacs. My mom noticed rolls that the people around them had. She thought maybe they were extra, but realized they were bringing them to every table. So she politely asked the server about them, and he responded "You have an allergy." Only one of the 5 had an issue and he was smart enough to realize that if it was BREAD that he couldn't eat it. :sad2:

This might have already been posted. But in case you missed it.

We were just at O'Hana's for dinner on Saturday night. They no longer have turkey. It is now chicken. :sad2:

DH was extremely disappointed. He really liked the turkey better.

Also they have changed the pork marinade. It is really good. DH liked that.

The dessert is still amazing!!

The service was horrible. I'm not sure we will be going back. :sad1:
We were there Saturday night also. Service was the worst. It was 25 minutes before we saw our waiter. 30 minutes between when they cleared our table and we got our dessert and another 30 to get our check.

Food was good though.

WOW I'm a lil' worried about this happening to us, I have a 2 yr old and a longer wait would not be good......weird why would service be so bad, do the servers not want tips

Just so they still have the Shrimp--I'll be happy:)

wow, hope they keep the chicken! Sounds better to me.. I did NOT care for the turkey at all there. Everything else was good though. My favortie was of course dessert... Salad and pot sticker dumpling thingies come in second lol.

We had Ohana as one of our last dinners on our trip so we were stuffed by the end of the week to be able to truly enjoy our dinner there. This time around I'm planning it for our first or second night, I want to hungry upon arrival ;)

Maybe they were shorthanded?? That would certainly explain a lot about the service.

We ate dinner at Ohana's on Monday-it was our favorite meal of the trip.
The food was delicious-especially the shrimp and steak. My husband liked the pork too. Even my picky kids ate. They offered to bring other options for the kids but we were fine. The kids next to us were eating uncrustables and fries! Our server, her name started with an L, was wonderful. The only thing I was a bit diasappointed about was that we were seated in the side room away from the kids' entertainment. We could hear everything, just not see it. My son preferred this but my daughter and I went to the main room to participate. This was our 2nd visit to Ohana's in the past 3 years and we will definitely be back!!

the desert is so yummy, but that doesn't help me decide between Ohana and Kona because the last two times we ate at Kona they were able to bring me the desert from Ohana. So the yummy steak from Kona and the Ohana desert!

We were tossing around either Kona or Ohana for dinner and we went with Kona because the entrees appealed to us so much more than Ohana. The main attraction at Ohana was the dessert but we won't book a restaurant for dinner ONLY because of the dessert looks appealing. Nice to know we have a shot at being able to get it from Kona. I will ask our server as soon as we sit down at Kona if it would be possible to get the Ohana bread pudding as our dessert that evening, so we give them time to get it. If they can't do it, then we will just have to "force" ourselves to enjoy something from Kona for dessert! ;)
