Don't know much about memory cards for digital cameras, but I have one that can hold between 100 and 700 pics depending on the settings of my camera. Right now I have it at a setting where I only get 200 or so pics out of it, but they seem to be better quality with close ups.

So my questions are...
How many memory cards would you take?
What brand?
Are all brands pretty much the same?

TIA! :hippie:

If you have a laptop, it might be worth while to take it along with you, and a card reader that supports your memory card. That way you can download your photos each night, view them on a large screen and delete the ones you dont like. It frees up space on your memory card, and saves you the hassle of doing it all once you get home. Also, when I have some downtime in the park, I scan through the photos and delete any that I dont want or are not good.

As for the cards themselves, it depends on what you will be doing with the photos. If you plan to print or enlarge them, then I would use the highest quality setting. This does chew up more space on the card though. If you will be emailing them, the smaller settings are better.

Check to see what the max size your camera will support. There are now huge memory cards out there, but many cameras wont support them. Also, it is better to have several smaller cards, vs one large one just in case the card becomes damaged. By having several cards, you wont lose all your photos! Thats another bonus to downloading your photos to a laptop each night. Ive also read of people going to a local CVS or possibly at WDW where they can pay to have the photos put on to a cd. That can be time consuming and expensive though.

Prices on cards have really come down, and check the Sunday flyers in the paper for even better deals. There are several types (memory stick, sd, cf, etc) so be sure to bring yours along with you so that you buy the right ones. As for brands, people have their opinions. You can do a search online to read reviews. I usually stick with the big name brands (Sony, etc), but then again, I am into photography and have a nice camera.

Hope this helps!

I always set the camera to the highest quality which equates to the lowest number of pictures stored. I take along one 4 GB card and one 2GB card and generally have a laptop with me or a 30GB digidrive to transfer pictures to. I can take thousands of pictures with a 10MP camera. Good luck.

PS memory is cheap now.

Completely forgot to mention I was planning on taking my laptop! That was the best way for me to do it, that way I can organize them while they are still fresh in my mind as well. Thanks!
I definately want a name brand just because I prefer that in my electronics.
Thanks for the tips!!

Didn't know there was a 10MP card! Maybe that's what I need...DH laughs at the insane number of pictures I take everywhere we go. :rotfl:

Thanks so much!

(2) 2 519?? MB I think because I am not home right now.

There are kiosks at WDW where you can download your photos to a CD if you rn out of room....

Costco has a sale this week on some of the Memory cards. I purchased 2 SanDisk Ultra II 2G cards for $29. I paid the same for one last week.

My camera friend told me to stick with the 2G cards instead of the 4G cards. Something to do with the processing time when uploading to your computer.

Really?! COOL!! Where?! That happened to me on our last trip, we accidentally left the other memory cards in the room. D'oh!

i just bought 6 8gb sandisc cards because i'm not sure if we'll have a lap top by then.

we also have about 8 2gb discs that we've purchased over the years.

the 8gb's are wonderful. i'll get a full 80 min's of video per disc which means that i can take pics and video of everything and not worry if i have enough room.

if you are going the multi disc route i'd buy a holder that holds at least 8 that way you have them all in one place.

we have 2 holders and velcro them together and have them in our camera bag. we know exactly where it is. oh and a hint - once you use the card turn it upside down when placing it in the holder (label side up though) that way you know at a glance it's full.

Just bought a 4 gig Scandisk SDHC with USB reader for $27 yesterday.....

We have about 6 cards, a couple CF for the old camera and 2-2 gig and 2-4 gig for the new camera.

As the prevouis people mentioned, I carry la aptop and download nightly, I will also bring a few blank CDRW or DVD RW and burn back-up while on the road, just in case.

Another option you have is to find a walgreens or wal mart and just go in with the card and have pictures made, and they will also burn a disk with the images...

Most of the various brands of memory cards are made by a small handful of manufacturers. I typically stick with SanDisk or Viking, two well known quality memory manufacturers.

I think my mom brought a 2 GB and a 1 GB, and we took over 2000 pictures,....
