Memories of Little Green Men and Sardines (6/8-17, 2010) **FINAL UPDATE 2-25-2011**

I have just started following your post and have spent the past hour reading it. I too am planning a trip around Christmas (The week of Thanksgiving) and it is taking up way too much of my time. I have worried about crowd levels, but everyone I know tells me it's no busier or actually less crowded than spring break and that's when we've gone for the past 4 years. Can't wait to keep up with your next post. Thanks for all of the questions and getting answers that help us all plan.:dance3:

You are going to be VERY happy with your cof weeks!! The last week in Nov. and the 1st week in Dec. are great times to go! Weather is nice and the crowds are low! Plus you get to see the World decked out in its holiday finest! We will we there 12/2 to 12/11! So very excited!

Hi, I'm joining along on your planning, we will be ther Dec 1-8th, so looking forward to it. I'm only on page 3, will have to get to the rest tomorrow:) How do you find out about the photo sessions and how much is it.

Thanks, Erika

Hi & WELCOME!!! :cheer2: :dance3: :cheer2:

I'm so glad to get more followers of my pre-trip report! I didn't think anyone would read it. Please keep following along...sometimes I go a few days or sometimes a week without posting an update related to my trip, but please stick with me! I promise it will get more interesting as it gets closer to June when I make ADR's and definitely after summer when I really start planning the little details!

I have learned soooo much since our last trip. I feel like I didn't know anything last year when we went & it was my 5th or 6th time at Disney!!! I didn't make too many plans last trip because our son was only 10 months old & it was his first vacation. We didn't know what to expect! But this trip will be much, much more exciting! I spend a lot of time reading the DIS boards & have about five thousand Disney related websites that I read constantly. My parents tell me I'm obsessed because everytime I'm at their house, I spend the entire time online reading about Disney! :rotfl:

If you have any questions, please feel free to ask me. You can PM me or just post on here. If I don't know the answer, I'm sure someone else will! Its also always great to get more than one opinion.

I have never been there during the week of Thanksgiving. Last year's trip was probably the most crowded (we went at the end of March) when it was still "busy season" but I didn't think it was all that terrible. I have heard that the weekend after Thanksgiving is crazy (like Friday through Sunday) but I think the days before Thanksgiving (Monday thru Thursday) are fairly decent as far as crowds...anyone else know??? There is a crowd calculator where they rate the crowd levels 1 to 10 (10 is the most crowded, 1 is the least) but I don't remember the site. I'll look it up & post it here for you. I definitely think November & December are the best times to be at Disney! The weather is great & the Christmas decor/festivities are amazing!!! Check out YouTube for videos as well...they have everything on there! (the parades, character greetings, shows, fireworks, etc.)

Happy Planning & please ask if you have questions!

Hi Erika!!! WELCOME to my PTR!!! As I said to Donald_Duck_Rules, please continue following along. I know its not too exciting right now, but it will get more exciting as my trip gets closer, I promise!!! :thumbsup2

If you want to find out more about the photo sessions, read Post #92 on my report. Someone else asked me the other night & I gave them the website where I got more info & also a link to a DIS thread that has more info. If you search on DIS type in "Private Photo Session" and you should get a lot of results. Sometimes its time consuming to read through other people's reports, but there are tons of great picture examples which I loved seeing! I still haven't chosen a resort...I'm deciding between GF, Poly, and BC. I think I'm leaning more towards the GF but not sure yet!

I didn't post this info on my other post so here it is!

The phone number you call is (407) 824-1700. Thats the number you call to make reservations for the photo session 30 days prior to your trip. You are able to have the session at: Grand Floridian, Beach Club, Polynesian, Wilderness Lodge, or AK Lodge. They are scheduled between 8am and 7pm (or sunset). You get a 30 minute session & usually 40-60 pictures (although I have heard of people getting 80-120 so it could be more!)

Like I said, someone else asked about this & I have done tons of research on it because I am definitely doing it this trip. My son will be 2 soon & we still don't have family pictures! I figured what better place to get them than at a Disney resort! Beautiful weather, beautiful resort, & lots of pics to choose from! I figure even if I only get 5 nice ones, its more than I usually get from JC Penneys!

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Also, completely unrelated to the above information, there is another photo opportunity (thats FREE!) at EPCOT if you don't already know about it. Its a free Meet & Greet from 1:30-4:30pm daily at Innoventions West. Its for Disney VISA Cardholders so make sure you have your card with you. You get a free 5x7 & photopass photographers take your pictures. (You probably get like 5-10 but I'm not sure). I just thought that I would mention that because I never knew it existed & I think its great that is free...and you get to see some of the main characters (Mickey, Goofy, Pluto, etc) so you don't have to spend hours waiting in line to see them individually. I'm not sure if the characters change or if they are always the same...could someone else answer this??? Plus, you & your family are the only ones in the room with them, so its like private photo time with the characters! I am definitely doing this!

Hope that answers your questions & please keep following along!

Well, this isn't exactly another update, but I decided that I will post some questions on my PTR whenever I don't have anything trip-related to tell you! I hope that someone can answer my questions & in return it will also help others planning their trips!

My first question is when do they take 2010 merchandise out of the parks? I have heard of people going to the parks/DTD in late December & finding the next years merchandise. I read trip reports about this, but I don't remember the exact dates. Does anyone know?

Does anyone know if they are releasing new Disney Dooney's in May/June? I heard a rumor but wasn't sure.

I have TONS of airline questions! I spent hours, days, and weeks last trip trying to figure out what was allowed in my carry-on, my checked bag, etc. It took me FOREVER to plan each bag...I was so stressed out...then I watched other people go through security & I kept saying to my husband...
..."They aren't allowed that in a carry-on"
..."they aren't allowed a bag that large"
..."they aren't allowed this"
..."they arent' allowed that"...

...funny thing was, they were ALL passing security, so obviously I was wrong!!! lol :rotfl2:

Anyway, I will be posting airline questions as I think of them. I know there is a TSA website (Side Note: I actually worked for a company who did background checks for the TSA agents!) I know you can go on the airport websites & read a bunch of info. But what I'm looking for is someone to say "Yes, I took that in my carry-on & it was fine."

My first airline question...I was under the impression that the only food/drink you were allowed to take on the plane (in your carry-on) was food/drink that you purchased AFTER passing through security. I'm assuming that I'm wrong because I know people take tons of snacks for their kids. So my question is...what snacks do you take for your kids? how many snacks do you take? what about drinks? Our plane ride is approximately 2-3 hours if that helps!

Am I allowed to take 2 digital cameras, a camcorder, extra batteries for each, about 5-6 memory cards, a portable DVD player (for my son), AND my iPod all on the plane in my carry-on bag?

Am I allowed to take my camera case (with multiple cameras inside it) plus my carry-on bag? I don't carry a diaper bag or purse on the plane, just my carryon bag.

Which reminds me...what about wet wipes? I know its an odd question but a very necessary item! lol Can I take an entire pack or do I have to just take one of those little travel cases of wipes? I must be a horrible mother because I didn't take them last trip at all! :confused3

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This isn't a question, but I wanted to share!!! Remember how stressed I was? Remember how I was mad about the trip dates & not knowing when I'll be going? Remember how I wasn't sure about the MVMCP because I'm afraid I won't be able to get tickets (because of not knowing my trip dates!)? Well, everyone always says there is a silver lining behind every cloud...I guess they are right! No, I still don't know my trip dates...and no, I won't know them until mid-June or October.

...BUT I found a ton of things to add to my "MUST DO" list!!!

I also heard a rumor (can anyone confirm???) that Handy Manny will be replacing Jo-Jo at "Play & Dine" at Hollywood Studios for the Character Meal! That made my entire day!!! See, my son's FAVORITE character is Handy Manny. He used to ONLY watch Manny on tv...nothing else would interest him. His first birthday party was Handy Manny themed...decorations, table placemats, banners, balloons, tshirt, the whole works! I'll have to post his "thank you" card that we made. He dressed up in his Manny tshirt, hoodie, and we put his Manny blanket behind him as a backdrop. He sat on it with his Manny doll & tools & I took pics to make thank-you cards with! It turned out super cute! Anyway, of course we already have the "Playhouse Disney" show at the top of our list of "Must Dos" for HS. I'm revolving my planning around my son, so of course it was the first thing I added! I've heard that after the show, characters will be available for signing autographs & pictures. I've also heard that the character changes (so its NOT always Manny) and the lines are super duper long! I know my son is too impatient to stand in a line thats more than 10 minutes & my husband is just about as impatient (if not worse :lmao:) Sooo, I was disappointed & figured that we probably wouldn't even see Manny. Its important to me since it was my son's first favorite Disney character. By the time we make another trip, he will probably be a retired character so this is my only shot! Now that I've heard this rumor, if its true, it is AMAZING & AWESOME!!!! :dance3:

Its sort of bittersweet because my mom tells me that Jo-Jo was my favorite character when I was little, even though I don't remember. I remember the lion from Jo-Jo but I didn't realize I liked Jo-Jo also. So if Manny replaces Jo-Jo, my son's favorite character will be replacing my childhood favorite character! Kinda funny isn't it?!?

A lot of people probably already know this, but I also found out that Pizza Planet has an arcade. That's great because sometimes when my son is ready to have a melt-down, its nice to have somewhere to just let him go & run around. Of course we will be going to the Honey I Shrunk the Kids area, but this gives me 2 places at HS to go now! Woo hoo!!! If you have a toddler (or even older kids...since they were once toddlers!) then you really know what I'm talking about here!

I also found alot of other things I want to do, but I can't read them! I was writing last night in the dark because DH & DS were both sleeping. I wrote things on top of other things & most of it just looks like scribbles! I will either have to do the research all over again, or find a really good translator! :rotfl:

I will post again soon!!! Happy Monday everyone!!! Thanks for reading along & sticking with me even though its not too exciting right now! :grouphug:

Ok so I take packed PB&J sandwiches(once on the sandwich it's not liquid--LOL), also snack packs of pretzels, granola bars, raisins, anything not liquid) ALSO-- take a EMPTY water bottle and the powdered packets of single drink mix. then once u get through security go to the drinking fountains--fill bottle and add mix...tada no buying drinks I bring enough packets to do this throughout the trip as well and for the return flight..

well I will tell you what I did...I took a camera case(med size) and it fit my camcorder and 2 digital cameras, rechargeable batteries and charger. I did have to open it at security , along with my laptop. I recommend giving your DH the DS and taking him through security and then you unloading and reloading the carryon's. Seeing as u sound like me, I feel I need to take control while DH makes sure the DD's aren't stolen...LOL I pack anything I need to take out in one carry on so it's only one carry on I am disturbing.

Which reminds me...what about wet wipes? I know its an odd question but a very necessary item! lol Can I take an entire pack or do I have to just take one of those little travel cases of wipes? I must be a horrible mother because I didn't take them last trip at all! :confused3
I took out a large chunk and put them in a ziplock gallon bag and then packed the rest in my checked.

First of all...THANK YOU!!! :flower3:

I really, really appreciate your help! That answered a lot of my questions. I feel much better now hearing someone say "hey, I actually took these things" rather than reading off the airport or TSA website that just give you lists of do's & don'ts!

I just cracked up laughing for a good ten minutes after reading your response!!! I don't know what made me laugh harder...the fact that we are so much alike...or the fact that you figured it out after knowing me very briefly!!! Ha ha!!! :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao: :rotfl2: :lmao:

We have been to WDW the week of Thanksgiving and had our usual great time. The crowds seemed about the same as we experience during our spring break, which is usually a week off from the max spring break schedule, which is busy but not overwhelming.

This is our first visit at Christmas, we are very excited for this and are willing to encounter whatever crowd size we have to in order to experience the parks over Christmas. Will be reading every and all tips.

Wow! I'm impressed that you go during 2 of the busiest "peak seasons" at Disney! Spring Break & Thanksgiving week!

I know what you mean...I am just happy to be going for Christmas! There are already sooo many things to do at Disney, but during the holidays, there are so many additional shows, events, parades, etc. I don't know what I'm looking forward to the most, but I think its viewing all the Christmas decor at the resorts! Make sure to take a few hours & go on the monorail to see the Christmas decor at the Contemporary, Poly, and Grand Floridian! You can search on DIS to see some pics of past years...it is amazing!

Good luck with all of your planning!!!

I figured ways around alot of things especially with kids. The empty water bottle, then filling it after security REALLY helps cause my girls have allergies and asthma and they just can't go without drinking(dry throats bad= cranky travelers...):rotfl: Also helps with air take off (swollowing) because one DD has braces and NO GUM!

:rotfl::lmao:I just have seen alot of my analness in your comments so I figured we have to be alot alike....I call it over organized!! But you know what I have learned if something doesn't go as planned I will deal but my organization has made for smoother vacations.... for example, as soon as I get on the cruise and recv my luggage, DH takes DD's to the pool and I unload and hang EVERYTHING!! and it can be fast moving and stressful for an hour BUT it makes our 7 day cruise go so smooth. Kids know exactly what draw I put their stuff in and everyone can find things instead of ?"saying "mom where is this and where is that?" I don't like living out of suitcases for a week and like them tucked neatly under our bed! Ok well I guess work is calling me :confused3 I will chat with ya later....have found some good little hints I will share with ya later this weekend! TTFN

Hey there! Thought I'd come on over to your PTR since you posted on mine. Christmastime at Disney is AWESOME! We've been lucky enough to go a few times and it's so cool seeing all the decorations. MVMCP is a blast. You are going to have a great time. Time to go back and catch up on everything...

:lmao: :lmao: :lmao: I am still laughing about it...and you are 100% right...its definitely "over organized"!!!! I completely agree with you...I like having a plan & I like organizing the little details, but if something doesn't go completely as planned, I won't freak out about it or anything like that! I mean, if I have something scheduled & it doesn't happen, it won't ruin my whole day! But I completely agree that planning makes things go more smoothly!!! I also unpack our stuff within the first few hours we arrive at the resort. This trip, I'm packing our outfits in large ziplock baggies...I got the tip from someone on DIS. I don't know why I didn't think of it myself, being the obsessive planner that I am! ha ha!

Can't wait to hear more hints! Will check back this weekend to read them! I found some stuff myself, but my notes don't make sense so I have to figure out what they mean first! (I was writing way too late at night in the complete dark!)

Thanks for posting!!! So far, my report has been a little crazy! I had things figured out & then it all changed & now I'm going to change it all again. lol I cannot wait until Disney at Christmas!!! I have an entire day saved just to see all the decorations at the resorts! I have to buy a huge supply of memory cards for my digital camera just for our trip!

I was considering not going to MVMCP since we aren't 100% sure of our exact trip dates, but I've decided to add it back on to our schedule! I just think my son will love it! Plus, I'd love to have 2 days at Magic Kingdom!!! :wizard:

I will try to post another update soon! Please keep reading & I promise it will get more exciting as it gets closer to our trip!

This isn't a huge change, but I've decided that we will leave on a Wednesday morning instead of Monday. This way, our trip will end on Friday, so my DH will have the weekend off before going back to work. I think that will work out much better. It also seems to work out better with the order I wanted to go to the parks!

Here is my new (tentative) schedule!

Wednesday
-- Arrive, Eat dinner at Shutters (at CBR)

Thursday
-- Animal Kingdom

Friday
-- spend morning at DTD or resort
-- MVMCP (arrive at 4pm when allowed into MK)

Saturday
-- Pictures at BC or GF around 10am
-- Look at Christmas decor at resorts
-- Spend evening at DTD

Sunday
-- Epcot (Lunch @ Coral Reef, Dinner @ San Angel Inn)

Monday
-- Hollywood Studios (Lunch @ Play & Dine, Dinner @ 50's Dine-in)

Tuesday
-- DTD (Lunch @ EoS, Dinner @ Planet Hollywood)

Wednesday
--Magic Kingdom (Breakfast @ Crystal Palace, Lunch @ Cosmic Rays)

Thursday
-- Free Day (to be determined!)
-- Chef Mickey's for dinner

Friday
-- Breakfast @ resort or airport -- Leave WDW

OK it is sooooo funny U say that about the zipbags.....I didn't wanna sound like a nut but I always do that....get large storage ones at the Dollar store and pack mine, DH's and 2 DD's outfits in it and label it with the day to be worn!

I will post some tidbits tomorrow but its 11pm and I am tired but I need to fold the lsundry! TTFN

I think that the change to Wed is a great idea! You will all definitely need that weekend to recoup from the trip! We are planning on arriving home in the evening on Saturday... I sure hope that is enough time for me to get myself ready to get back to the reality of work! :rotfl2:

Your plans look great! Jealous you will be there for over a week.

Your plans look great! Jealous you will be there for over a week.

I am so excited to go for 10 days/9 nights! We have NEVER been on that long of a vacation before!!! We are kinda splurging since I got the good PIN code & we really think our DS will love Disney! :goofy:

Plus I think we're going to go with the QSDP to save some money on food...last trip we spent over $570 just for 3 days at Disney & 2 days at the airport! :sad2:

I guess its sort of like we only have 8 real days there since the first day, we usually arrive around 4:30pm or later so all we do is unpack & eat at our resort...and the last day, we leave first thing in the morning so thats basically a wasted day! This trip, (on our last day) I was planning to check our luggage in first thing in the morning, check out of the resort, and then just stay at CBR to eat breakfast & walk around. I figure that if we have an afternoon flight, we could at least have a few hours of free time our last day. BUT I just recently found out that CBR is one of 2 resorts on Disney property that DOESN'T take your luggage directly to the airport for you...so now I don't know what to do! Then I read somewhere else that they do have luggage check-in...so now I'm just completely confused about it! Its only my 2nd time flying, so I really have a million questions when it comes to airline information!
:confused3

Yes, I know...I'm not sure what I was thinking before coming back on Wednesday evening! All I can say is that Thursday would not have been a good work day! :rotfl:

Arriving home Saturday evening sounds good too. You can at least get some stuff unpacked & relax all day Sunday!!! Just make sure you have your work clothes ready before you leave on vacation, then you won't have to worry about laundry when you get home!

Besides, I don't think it really matters what day you get home from a Disney trip...no matter what, you will be dreaming of Disney for weeks, maybe months, after arriving back home! I know I do!!! :donald: :goofy: :stitch: :dumbo: :sulley: :tigger: :mickeyjum

Going to post some AKL pics on your PTR within the hour!!!

I know...I read that about the ziplock bags on someone's Trip Report & immediately wrote it on my "list of things to buy." ha ha! I thought that was a great idea! My husband won't let me do it with his clothes, but I'll definitely be doing it for myself & my son! What a great idea! I'm glad to hear that you do it as well...we really do think alike! :rotfl:

I'm exhausted...again...its been such a rainy day here that I've been cleaning all morning/afternoon, went through DS's winter clothes & got out the spring/summer stuff, and now I'm going to try to upload some pics to Photobucket. Then hopefully I'll be back on DIS & will post some more info! Talk to you later!

Since I don't really have any updates right now, I figured I would post some pictures of last year's vacation. If you click on this link, it will show you a slideshow. Unfortunately, its only 600x400 pixels so its kinda small. It won't let me make the slideshow any bigger unless I upgrade to a different account which I'm not doing because it costs $$$.

Here are the pictures of Animal Kingdom Lodge (Jambo House). We had a Savanna-view room on the 3rd floor (which is the same floor that the lobby is on). If you're staying there & have any questions, please feel free to ask!
