Members's cruise

i have heard of the member cruises but never really look into them. sounds pretty fun!

since you have to be a member to sail, do you have to use your points? i'm guessing yes. last night i was playing around looking at cruises (we have yet to cruise but just spoke to someone this weekend that cruises once a year on DCL) - seems like cruising isn't a good use of points. but maybe a special member cruise would be worth the points.

have a great time. i'll be looking for your posts post-cruise to see how it went!

You can use either cash or points for the Member Cruise. I believe that the resale purchase (after 3/21) exemption to using points would still apply.

The Member Cruise threads on the meets boards are challenging, aren't they? There are lots of great people having fun there but sometimes it can be really difficult to sort through everything and find the information/answers you are looking for. I swear those have to be the fastest moving threads on the history of the DISBoards. :)

I've also stopped reading the Member Cruise threads on the Meets boards. I'm tired of reading about who has a headache, who's going to bed, what kind of appliances someone is buying, etc.!! I guess there's some kind of 'game' where whomever makes the 'xth' post, they get some imaginary token or something, and the poster with the most, wins! All that does it promote people posting meaningless posts, sometimes 3-4 in a row, just to get to that 'magical' post. I gave up, I've got better things to waste my time on!

I'm glad someone else 'broke the ice' here and I could vent too!!

I agree, I looked at the "Official Member Cruise Meet" thread and tried to skim for some useful info. I decided not to join it b/c of the frequency of posts that are not cruise related. My husband and I are super excited to go and hope to meet lots of great DVCer's too!!!

Well, the thing is, there are some great folks on the official meet thread who have the time and internet availability to keep up with the fast and furious speed of the threads and who have enjoyed getting to know each other through non-Member Cruise related posts and games. I think that is awesome but unfortunately I don't have the time or ability (can't access the boards from work computer or smart phone on weekdays) to keep up with everything going on over there. In the meantime, I just can't wait for Sept 18 to get here so we can all start our SS Member Cruise 2011 adventures. :)

Ahhhh, I feel vindicated and not alone. I gave up several weeks ago and for the same reasons you stated in this post....smjj

I suppose the little cliques are just part of life. However, in '05 when we were on the MC, I just stuck with the thread. We didn't do the FE, but I did make some friends through the thread.

we're on this cruise with a little help from our guide. :thumbsup2

we are new members so we are trying to figure out this cruise
vesus the regular ones. do they let you now ahead of time
about the special activities?

{ the other site is too fast for me . my guess they were friends before
this cruise.}

If I remember correctly and others can correct me if wrong, we will be getting this info in the next couple of weeks or so. On our last one we had several special quest but the one I remember the most was Roy Disney. He gave a couple of talks and question and answer sessions and they were very informative. Be sure to bring a big suitcase for all the stuff you will get each day in your cabin..smjj

Just a note here - it is definitely appropriate to have this Member Cruise discussion here on the DVC boards. Yes, there is a Cruise Meet thread over on that board, but it is more of a chat thread as mentioned, though the first page of the thread does contain much pertinent information. Feel free to continue with this discussion here, too. :)

I will be on this Member Cruise as well, and looking forward to checking out the Dream for the first time! DVC Member cruises are very special to members and offer many DVC specific events, gifts, gatherings, etc. Looking forward to meeting lots of new DIS/DVC Members next month! :)

You know, I think I meet you on the last cruise but in the terminal waiting to board the ship. I meet so many DIS people I just can't remember them all. This would have been the 2007 cruise, was that you??...smjj

Here's a question for previous Member Cruisers...

Do we get our regular cruise documents from DCL just as if it were a normal cruise or do the documents come through DVC because of the special events and such due to it being the Member Cruise?

In any case, I feel like we should be getting them soon, shouldn't we?

DVC will not release details on special guests prior to the cruise sailing. We will find out on board what's happening.

DCL will mail out the normal cruise documents. I believe they send those out at around 40 days prior, so they should be arriving any day now.

:welcome:to DVC and :welcome:to the Cruise!!! It's our 1st member cruise too but I hear they don't give you much info before hand. FYI: I'm on the other site too but I hadn't met any of them before.

Isn't DVC sending out e-mails to you all in anticipation? I know for the '05 cruise, we did get e-mails with general information. I just looked up one that was in my files, and it generally went over what was happening on each of the days. They were few and far between, but they added to my anticipation.

The only thing they've sent out this year was a t-shirt pre-order e-mail. In 2009 they had a website setup, but never updated it and never sent any information pre-cruise.

We sailed July 18, 2007 out of Barcelona on the Med cruise. Were you on that one?

Even at that, the pre-order t-shirt email did not come to us at first. It came later, then I ordered but some folks had an issue with their orders needing to be redone. We are not even certain if we will find our shirts in our stateroom, lol. Hoping for a great cruise celebrating the 20th anniversary of DVC as well! :)

I got both t-shirt e-mails. I meant to call prior to the 7/31 deadline to try and check to ensure they had them listed, but didn't get around to it. I wish they would have sent a confirmation e-mail.

I'm also hoping for a great cruise. They have a couple of things to use to make it really special. The 20th anniversary and it's the first time the member cruise will be on the Dream. The anniversary really should be something they use to make it extra special.

Hi I'll be sailing on the MC too! Our first Disney cruise. Glad to find this thread. I saw there are still Remy reservations open. Wonder if there will be any Palo's available when we board the ship.

Who felt a bit put off by the cruise meets thread. Being a bit of a wallflower to begin with, I was starting to wonder if I'd be on ship with a clique of people and be totally left out of the fun. Sounds like that is just a small number of people posting over there and there will be lots of other people like me who did not join in on that "fun".

Our waitlist came through a while ago so we'll be sailing too, my mother and I. First time on the dream but our third Disney cruise. Here's a question: Does anyone know if any of the beds do split on the dream or still most do not? One of us will have to sleep on the couch which is disappointing if the bed does not split.

Looking forward to the cruise, which is approaching fast. Should be great fun. Still wishing I could get a cabana on CC but we'll find other great things to do. Tried to call and see if any cabins were available at this point to add some family members, but it is all sold out still.
