For the second time in two days the telephone number that is given to call MS has been given out over this site. I know people are only try to help, but it is not a good idea, and I believe is not recommended by people who run this site. If a member does not have the number then he must have lost his card or has not been given the number yet for some reason. If they are motivated enough they can call down there and be patched through or given a number to call by someone at WDW. The telephone number in the wrong hands would not be a good thing.

Giving out the # for Member Services is useless to anyone a non- member anyhow so why would they? If a member needs the number, PM them.

So ... if you've posted the number please go back and edit your post. If you see it posted just notify a moderator so they can delete it.

Let's keep those lines free for everyone whose 7 month window just opened.

Actually, MarkRG, it has been reported several times that non-members have called MS and actually been served!!

a little off topic, but how many of you actually know the number without looking it up! I, for one, definitely do have it memorized!!!!

Pam, I am curious about this. Not that I have given the number out, but isn't the number public knowledge if they really wanted it? And what about the people that just need to hook up with a new guide and want DVC information for the first time? Just wondering about the reason to not give it out, is it just to not tie up the lines or something else...just curious. :D

Actually, no, Member Services is not the same number as those wanting info about DVC membership or to set up an appointment with a DVC Guide.

Additionally, remember that toll-free numbers are free to the caller, not to the owner of the number. Our dues pay for not only the call but for the handle time of the CM as well.

This is the reason that members are advised not to post the ID and password for the members site. Granted, the info there is pretty weak (but that's all going to change, right? ;) ), but the toll free number is posted on the members site.

This seems a little paranoid to me. Just MHO. If a member lost the number or just couldn't find his or her card for some reason, it would be nice to be able to get the information here. I don't think that the risk that a few non-members might try to call the number is going to clog up the phones or significantly increase dues.

If the member has posted before, a PM assist would be better than putting the number out there for those who lurk...

You'd be surprised. If none members thought there may be some advantages to calling MS (including the fact that it is "toll-free"), chances are a significant number would. They would undoubtly be the same type of people that advocate parking at the boardwalk for theme park access (to save the parking fee), or calling the Spanish speaking reservation line to get through faster. :(

I know people get confussed by this but I am not Pam-Pam is PamOKW, I am Paokw95. The difference between the two is Pam or PamOKW is probably the one of the best people on this site for answers, I am not. I am also a male, Pam is not. At any rate the member number is not public knowledge, it is for members only to use. Anyone else can get DVC by using the public number. I have a 800 number myself, I get charged for all incoming calls on my 800 number at the same rate that I would get charged if I made the call myself. 800 numbers are not free, I am sure DVC must get a better deal than me, but members pay for this service at any rate. One thing we are all guilty of is when we think of something DVC should do, or a service it should have, we forget that it costs the members money. A good case in point is the new slide at OKW, that will cost OKW members as well as the cost of life guards, and maybe additional insurance costs, but a lot of members wanted it. Everything adds up and will effect the dues we pay, just like calls made to DVC and the new slide, some people want daily maid service(god help us), etc, etc. Well I will get off my soap box. Remember Pam is PamOKW and is a very nice person and well informed, and willing to help. I am none of the above. Well my granddaughter thinks I am nice.:D

I don't think it's paranoid at all. Just look at the Budget Board. There are folks over there who are budgetting to the last nickel. Some of them spend hours looking for a deal or risk a used pass on Ebay, or try and find their way into convention websites (of companies they don't work for) in order to get a cheaper park ticket. Often there are posts asking for any "800" line to call to avoid the cost of a phone call.

As another poster said, aside from tying up the lines, we are paying for those calls.

I like to save a buck or 2 too!

But we do pay for MS phone number in our dues, so it is in our best interest not to post it. Let them work a little for it. I know MS is pretty good about asking for id up front before they do anything, but a call is a call and that doesnt stop people from using it to try to get connected to make Ps's or ressies.

I may have posted this, but when the Do Not Call List number was published it was very close to this self employed plumber's 800 number. Well he was getting wrong number calls left and right. His bill was outrageous and he did not receive credit for the calls just because people were dialing the wrong number. He was forced to change his 800 number of many years or go bankrupt from paying his phone bill.

So even if MS does what they are supposed to do and not help these people, it still will add to the cost. I agree PM if needed.

I know this is a little "off topic", but here goes...When we were looking at buying SSR from DVC (we ended up going resale), my guide was using the slide at OKW to show how DVC takes care of its properties. He said that Disney was paying for the slide, not OKW members (I do understand the costs you are speaking of in terms of insurance and lifeguards, though). I was just wondering...was he telling me the truth, or are they really going to "up" the dues at OKW to cover the cost of the slide? I'm not trying to be nosy, we are just considering buying an additional contract at OKW, and I'd like to know.

Thanks,

Beca

We pay for everything else, I do not know why the slide would be exempt from the members. WDW never would pay, the entire DVC members might pay but I doubt very seriously if WDW would ever get involved in paying for anything at a DVC resort. I have no first hand knowledge of the truth of this situation. I got into a very heated discussion years ago with management over the bus situation at OKW, he left me to believe that buses were paid for by members and the boat service to DD from OKW at the time was being considered to drop the service. It was my understanding that DVC and WDW were two very different corporations. At OKW we were the very last to get a security gate at the entrance way after Dixie, Por, and the other moderates, that was another thing I complained about. We got the gate soon after, of course, my complaint had nothing to do with it but it shows how seperate DVC was from the rest of the WDW situation. The new boat service from OKW should be some shared expense with WDW if POR is in the loop.

You are just saying that because we both live in CT and about 10 miles from one another. Of course, Ct is not noted for its friendly people, taxes yes. Maybe someday we will run into each other at OKW. I know one thing about you that is you smoke, so does my wife. Well we have two things in common, no 3, members of OKW, CT, and you and my wife smoke, well should really run into one another now. :p :p
