Recently diagnosed with Melasma on my face. Dermatologist says it's hormones, but I just read that Minocycline can cause it too. Funny the dumb doctor never told me that and she's the one that put me on Minocycline!

She recently took me off Minocycline, but never once mentioned that IT could have had something to do with the melasma.

In any event, if you have/had it, what worked to clear it up?

Is that the dark spot on your face, sometimes brought about by pregnancy? If so, believe it or not, DH has it. His doctor said he could prescribe hormones to cure it but DH doesn't really care about it. It tends to get worse in the summer.

Yes. That's it. For me, it's on both sides of my face, but much worse on one side. I went out and bought the highest SPF sunscreen I could find and I won't dare go out in the sun without it ever again. I always used sunscreen, but never the highest SPF.

Hopefully now that I'm off the minocycline and I'm taking something that controls wacked out hormones, it will fade.

Hi GH. Hope it goes its course and goes away. Just a thought on sunscreen. I purchased, base on CaityCaity's recommendation, a Coppertone Spectra 3, 50 SPF, for when I was at the World last week. I applied and after being out in that BLAZING FL sun for 3 straight days, I could not tell a shade difference between what was exposed, like arms, face and legs, and that which was covered by shirt and shorts. It was wonderful. And that 'Disney rash' on the legs did not appear this time either. Just a thought. My best.

I have "pregnancy mask" on my upper lip. It's a darkened area of skin.

The Dr. says it is hormonal and there is not much I can do about it.

It sounds like the same thing you mentioned.

What is the Minocycline you mention?

Had it around my eyes and on my upper lip when I was PG. My sister kept thinking it was wayward eye shadow and was always trying to rub it off! It went away over time, and sunscreen helped to keep it at bay.

I had it on my face when I was pregnant, but it did eventually go away.

Have you tried the skin whitening creams? They may help. One of my friends had it on her face and she was given a hydroquinone cream (spelling?) by the dermatologist she worked for and it made the discoloration disappear.

Good luck!

Thank you to all. I will go and get some of that sunscreen Dan recommended and I am getting some of that hydroquin... whatever it's called, online.

Hopefully I'll be less "patchy" in a few months.

I'm also wearing my baseball cap at all times during sun exposure. I probably should have been doing that all along anyway. Sometimes I need a little kick in the butt to get myself to do the right thing. I guess this was it.:p :D
