Mediterranean Excursions

The Med packet I received shows a pirates in the carribean party, even though it should be named the Med.

Boat drill I guess will be at 4pm usual time for all who are on board, thats why maybe they encourage you on before 4pm, with the restrctions on luggage. Maybe a 'catch up 'drill for thoose not on board on the first sea day,

I must say I would prefer to be with my servers on a set time from first night.

That might be the way they do the drill -- although it does seem to negate somewhat the purpose of the drill (to replicate what everyone would do if we needed to get off the ship) to have it in dribs and drabs (or is that bits and pieces?).

Well, Andrew, I'm sure if you expressed to DCL that you preferred to be with your servers from the first night they would be sure to do them all like that!

The Travel Channel this Sunday the 18th has Passport to Europe with Samantha Brown from 5p to 7:30p featuring Rome, Nice, Naples, Barcelona and Florence.

Thanks for that info, Andrea -- I will definitely record those . . .

I hope they don't have open dining the whole cruise. First night might be OK. We like to let our kids 9 and 12 go to dinner by themselves one night while we go to Palo. I'm not sure I would feel comfortable doing that with no assigned servers. Normally by the time we do that the kids are very familiar with the servers.

Hi all,

Firstly I dont think they will have open dining as in the med packet it explains about the normal rotational dining.

Secondly I emailed DCL regarding Pirate night and they confirmed that there will definatly be a pirate night and for my cruise 11 nights it would be on night 9 (Marsielle).

I've heard that the beaches at Nice are not as "nice" (they are more pebbly beaches) as the ones at Villefranche (more sandy).

oops... i meant the one for disney... I can't seem to find one that gets responded to.

:flower3:

sorry,

What I have done, the past 3 times I contacted DCL, was I hit the 'contact us' on the website (after logging in), then filled in the details. However I selected the drop down that says 'my disney cruise line reservation' (in the subject line). I have found they answer to this as opposed to some of the other drop downs.

Hope that makes sense.
Good luck.

Hi, the public beaches in Nice are very rocky. Seems that throw all the rocks from the private beaches on the public ones. So the private ones are very nice. YOu can buy a one day membership, or whatever they call it, to a private beach. Don't remember hom much, but not much.

Secondly, hope they don't have open seating. I think there would be too much coming and going in the dining rooms, and there would be times you would have to wait for a table.

Pirates: Well, the original pirates were in the med. Think about Julius Caesar being captured and ransomed by pirates. Great story.

Lastly, thanks for the info on Villefranche.

We are so excited for our Mediterranean cruise and have been scouring the excursion lists, guide books and internet to figure out what would be the best for our family. So far we have decided to leave the kids on the boat in Civitavecchia since the excursions are so long and our children are 8 and 4, they won't be so excited to see everything. In Naples we want to see Pompeii and Sorrento, maybe Capri. Marseille, a neighbor who lived in France for 3 years said Aix En Provence is a good choice. Definitely want to see the Grand Casino at night. Maybe with the sail date of 07-07-07, we will be lucky. We are so lucky!!! If anyone has a daughter around the 4yr who isn't so fond of characters maybe we can get them together. This is our only concern with this trip. My daughter doesn't like characters and we didn't even consider this as we booked. It was brought up after the fact, we live near DisneyLand but she hasn't gone yet. Yikes!!!

Hi! I'm on the 7/7/7 cruise as well! Welcome aboard. If you haven't already dropped by, please visit our cruise thread! There is a good group signed in, so it should be fun! Please see the link below in my signature.

By the way, my daughter was also afraid of the characters at 4. I think she was 8 before I could get her to pose with Mickey, and even then she looked terrified :). She now doesn't have a problem, except being 16 and a little embarrassed by her mother asking her to pose for the camera :rotfl:

Hi All

Great thread. I will cruising on the 10 night 18/07/07 cruise and it is useful to have some advice and share tips on excursions because there are so many  and they are very expensive, so we want to make the right decisions.

Here are a couple of bits of info i received from Disney today.

The 10 night cruise will have formal night on night 2, semi formal night on night 9 and Pirates of the Carribean night pirate: on night 8.

The ship will tender at 2 ports these being Villefranche & La Spezia.

All of the UK people...I received a planning DVD this weekend on top of the book I received a couple of weeks ago. Keep your eyes open for that too. I am on the 6/16/07 cruise.

Keep on top of those disney folks. You should get everything too, they can afford the postage!

:)
