It sounds appalling, doesn't it? I saw someone put it together for a potluck and after trying it, I was hooked. I made some last night--we like appetizers for dinner on Christmas Eve.
The recipe is easy--just equal parts chili sauce and grape jelly. Throw it in the crock pot for a couple of hours on high until the meatballs or Smoky Links are done.
Horseradish Sauce. My recipe calls for Currant Jelly and Horseradish Sauce. I'm sure it will work with grape jelly, as well. You need something to offset the sweetness of the jelly.
You've probably had it & didn't even realize!! I was eating them for years & had no idea there was grape jelly in the sauce. We sometimes have Lil Cocktail Weanies instead of Meatballs.
No I know I have never ate anything like this - the only way I eat my meatballs is in marinara sauce. I am half Italian so I am real particular about my meatballs and usually don't eat them that often and then only in a pasta dish.
Another vote for the chili sauce and grape jelly. Always a hit at our house. I may try with the BBQ sauce though since I always have that in the house.
