Hi all! I need some assistance.

I've searched the boards but haven't found exactly what I'm looking for.

I'm looking for reports on meals you have had anywhere in WDW that you perceived as "health conscious." This can mean whatever you want whether it is low-calorie, low-fat, low-carb, low-points, whatever.

The rules are:
1. I'm looking for specific meals so please don't post about general tips like "load up from the toppings bar"
2. Please report on a specific meal or food item from a specific restaurant or snack stand. Tell us where you got the food but if you are a little vague on it if it was a cart somewhere, "a snack stand in Frontierland" will suffice.
3. Please report on everything you ordered including what the portion size was. Buffet reports are good too. Tell us what you got off of the buffet.
4. Let us know what you think the calories/fat/carbs/points are for that meal if you have any guess at the info.
5. Finally, how good was the meal and did you find it filling enough for you?

I'm trying to build a big list of the more healthy meal/food options at WDW.

Thanks for the help!

how long do we have to do this "assignment?" we are going at the end of the week. i am a lifetime member at weight watchers; so, i definitely try to make healthier choices. is next week too late? however, i usually look at the menus on deb's site and try to "know before i go" and sorta give the points a good guess. thanks:tongue:

A lot of places have Chicken salads (chicken breast) we have gotten really good ones at Cosmic Ray's in MK. The last few times we split the salad and soup (I think the soup was noodle which wasn't low carb). CRT has a wonderful salad as well...if you watch what it on them you should be fine.

It did kind of sound like an assignment didn't it. ;)

You have as long as you want. I'm hoping that this thread stays alive for a while as people add what they know about eating healthy at WDW.

disney queen - please share what you learned when you get back. I'm sure everyone would like to benefit from what you discovered.

I had a heart attack a few years ago, had surgery, and was put on a low-fat, low cholesterol diet. I have been able to find at least 2 or 3 heart-healthy items in every restaurant menu at WDW, and have been able to have other items modified to make them more acceptable. You'll find that the CMs at the WDW restaurants go out of their way to make accomodations for your specific dietary needs, much moreso than anyplace else we've vacationed or eaten around home!

The Teppanyaki grill is great for a fairly healthy meal. Chicken or Steak or Scallops or Tofu and fresh veggies on a grill with a side of rice - very little oil or sauce. I'm not going to guess on points/carbs/cal etc. Very filling.

They also serve sushi in Japan - as well as several other places in Disney. I find sushi to be a fairly healthy, filling meal.

We thought the chicken ceasar at Peco's to be "healthier" than the one at Rays - less Croutons.

Their are fruit stands in each park.

A big trick to healthy eating at WDW is portion control. If you eat the whole thing (of pretty much anything they serve) you will have more calories/carbs/fat than appropriate. However, remember you do a lot of walking as well.

I love to eat the Vegetarian Chili served in a bread bowl @ Columbia Harbour House for $4.99 while at MK. You don't have to eat the bread bowl.

I even got the recipe for it from www.allearsnet.com Lots of beans, veggies and spices. It is absolutely my favorite!

I am a pretty health-conscious eater. I have found the restaurants to be very accomodating.
2 meals that stand out in particular were at Le Cellier & Coral Reef. I basically put together a meal from salads, soups & appetizers that appealed to me. Spoodles also put together a nice meal, but since I couldn't follow the Specific Rule due to memory lapse, I won't go into that :p

Le Cellier - Roasted Asparagus, Feild Green Salad & Chedder Cheese soup (ok, the soup wasn't THAT healthy! :p )

Coral Reef - Rock Shrimp app., roasted beet salad & again splurging on the soup - Crab Bisque

We used to go to the counter-service place in Wonders of Life for a quick & healthy meal - I can't recall the name of it now, but it's only open in peak season now anywyas. If you in peak, you can check that out.
