ME Luggage Tags? - UPDATE 4/20 - NEW UPDATE 4/26

if we don't receive our tags by the 11th or 12th then I should call back. ;) Hopefully they will be here.

Leave it to Disney to always have a back up plan! :cool1:

I just spoke with someone from ME and they said they never received my flight info - so I was not in their system!!! I told the CM that I had given them my flight info more than a month ago and had called just a couple of days ago and was told my tags might arrive by this Friday but to call if they didn't.

The CM was very apologetic and said there was an "outside" chance that my tags might arrive before I leave on the 7th - but not to worry if they don't because they would handle everything once I arrive at MCO and present my baggage claim tickets!!!! Then I got the same story about seeing costumed CM's waving big Mickey hands at the airport and going to the ME counter in the main terminal w/my baggage claim tickets.

I feel so frustrated - all this waiting for nothing!! What's worse is that the CM did not say anything about trying sending them FED EX or Express Mail.I advise everyone who is using ME to call and confirm they have your information so this doesn't happen to you!

Now I have to wait until the 7th to see if the tags arrive (our plane leaves at 10:45pm on May 7th) - if not, I'll tie yellow ribbons on our luggage and hope for the best at MCO.

I was going to do this also (since I did not receive my tags yet either and I arrive on May 5th). But a guy at my office made me change my mind.

I read in another thread that they were told to be ready to describe your luggage. Since the ME tags are going to be yellow also, if I said "mine are the ones with the yellow ribbons", there will be a bunch of other luggage there yellow things attached also! So I think I'm going to pick a different color.

I called this morning also, was told the tags may or may not be to us by
our May 9 departure. They have my correct flight info, but couldn't confirm
if the tags went out or not. They said the might be fed-exed to me (or not!)
:badpc: was told the same thing, cm, mickey hands, blah blah..If I don't
get my tags, I'll retrieve my luggage myself..load it on the bus..this is crazy :sad2: if they can't get my tags to me in time (booked ME in January!)
why should I feel warm and fuzzy about them retreiving my untagged bags? :confused3 and as other posters have said, it is a good thing we are
all on these boards...this is really the only source of information and updates-can you imagine all the people who are just "winging" it, with no source of
additional info?? Those people I REALLY feel sorry for!! At least us dis-ers
know what and what not to be prepared for! :disrocks:

I just got off the phone with them to verify that they had our flight info....and like many others...they did not. And was told the same story.

One interesting thing that she said (that I haven’t seen posted) is that since this is a complimentary service…they would NOT be paying for any service like Fed Ex or UPS to get the tags to us…just regular mail.

Hmmm, interesting, cuz when I spoke to someone at DME today, he said
express..I asked him if he meant USPS express priority mail, or Federal
express next day? he said federal express... getting less warm and fuzzy
feelings every moment.....

Others have claimed to have received theirs by Fed Ex…so it could be just a misinformed CM or perhaps a change in policy? Who knows

JudicialTyranny - That's a good point! I'm going to get another color too!

bugsy - I agree, the dis-ers are great! If it wasn't for these boards, I wouldn't know there was a problem to begin with! I wonder how will they go about retrieving our luggage - do we bring them to the counter ourselves, or will they retrieve them while we're there, or take photocopies of our claim tickets or what!

exactly!! we are at least aware of a potential problem...others are simply
going to be taken by surprise!!! can you imagine how many non dis-ers
that will just assume their bags are being retrieved...and instead they are
circling on the carousel !!!!! you know that is bound to happen!! :earseek:

I would hate to be a CM in DME right now, they are probably completely swamped. Likewise, I wouldn't want to be at MCO on 5/5, it'll be a zoo. Anyone want to take video? :rotfl:

Or worse, they're at their hotel wondering what happened to their bags!

All this makes me esp glad I do not have to fly to be here any longer. ;)
A friend and I were discussing this tag situation. We are puzzled.
Disney has been doing a luggage/guest transfer like this for years with DCL. Wouldn't they have been using the same printer as what they are now? :confused3
This just makes me wonder what changed to create these delays. :scratchin
Sure there is an increase in passengers. But....

that's kinda where I am too. I have a towncar service booked because I do not really feel like I can have confidence in this system with all the trouble they seem to be having.

Good gracious, I sure hope they get all these problems worked out before we leave for our trip on June 4th. I'm with Luv2Roam I would have thought that with having done this with the Disney Cruise Line for so long they would have it down pat by now. I guess maybe there are just a lot more people going to the resorts than to the port. Oh well, positive thoughts that it will all work out very soon.

Just thought I'd add my little story. I was told the same thing as everyone else, that they are doing their best to get the tags to everyone. I was told on Monday, by the way, that ALL tags were FedExed 8 days ago (Friday), which obviously was not the case. We arrive 5/5, and I find it interesting that some people have received their tags for later dates. I wonder if I should call back to be sure I am in their system. I have confirmed witht he CMs at 407-WDISNEY, but not yet with the ME 800#.

Well, I'm assuming all this will be worked out for our trip in July.

My plan, incidentally, is to grab my bag off the carousel and bring it to the welcome center. I figure if I see it get on the bus with me, it'll arrive no problem.

Should we decide not to do that, we will certainly have a change of clothes and toiletries in our carryon.

Michael,

Please don't take this as a criticism, because it is not meant to be... But I am wondering if Disney will even ALLOW you to do that. 1.) Wouldn't every guest doing that create major delays in the bus getting to the resorts, and 2) Is there even room on a bus for everyone's luggage? I really don't know - I never take buses. I know we will probably have four suitcases and two strollers, plus our carryons... What if everyone has that much stuff??

I certainly expect everything to be worked out by July!? But we leave May 15th and I am really starting to worry. No luggage tags here, yet!

Loading luggage will cause a delay in departure, but just a few minutes. The coaches are designed to carry luggage as well. If people check lot's of luggage, I've seen 55 pax coaches only able to load 45 pax. We will see, but I doubt if Disney would try to dictate what you do with your luggage if you choose to not tag it and retrieve it yourself, and certainly, not if you didn't even receive your tags. Disney likes to control things but that is a bit more than I would tolerate, or what I think they would do, being they are having the issues getting the tags to you in the first place!

Hi Betty. Sorry, I should have clarified that I actually asked the question to the ME rep at their 800#. The nice lady on the line said I definitely could grab my own bag (I think they like that idea since it means less time sending people to grab bags) and that there is plenty of luggage room under the bus. As far as creating delays, I wouldn't think so. You get to the welcome center and they put you on the next bus. I don't think they'll be holding busses for people who haven't checked in, because what if people decide to stop for a bite in the airport (or whatever). Point is, until you check in, you're not in their queue. Throwing the bag under the bus takes a few seconds, and retrieving it at the hotel might add a minute for the driver to open the door and grab the bag. As someone else said, they're the ones who messed up getting us the tags, so they'll be accomodating.

I am flying on May 5th and have not received my luggage tags. I spoke with DVC member services yesterday, whom I made my reservations for ME through. The CM I spoke with confirmed I am in the ME reservation system and told me the worst case scenario would be that I would have to grab my own bag and carry it to the ME Welcome Center which is what I plan to do. This way I would know my bag is coming with me. We are not arriving until 7:45 pm so I am afraid of how long it might take for them to get the bags to the resort.
