Two Dreams Come True – a pre-trip report inside a pre-trip report!
Thanks for hanging in there, those of you that have been hanging in. My husband and I just got back from a trip to New Orleans! Yay!! It was great. The weather was crazy. Hot for the first few days, then severe weather with tornadoes, then really cool and windy. We ate a lot and walked a lot and met a lot of really nice people and listened to really good music and bought art! So, a Disney vacation.
I did leave my glasses on the plane at our layover. And they wouldn’t let me back on to check. The gate agent at United went back on and she said she looked and couldn’t find them. They were there – I just had them, pleeeease let me look! Nope. Filled out a lost items form and go blind instead.
So I had to stay home from work today (can’t drive) but luckily I got in to my eye doctor who is two blocks away so I now I have trial contacts for the moment until my glasses come in. I’ve been out of contacts for awhile and my glasses prescription was going out so it needed to be done anyway. It’s just hard to tell work – hey, I was gone for a week and now I’m taking another day off! You’ll still pay me, right??
But now I can see and now you are getting another update! So hooray for you!!
Where I last left us, my husband’s cousin – Antigoni (fun name, huh?) wanted me to plan a birthday trip for her husband and her. Whoo hooooo!
I had a serious chat with her about The Line. And how I have no idea where it is. So she would have to tell me if I crossed The Line. Meaning, if I inundated her with too much info or took it upon myself to do too much without consulting them, etc. I never quite know when to stop. I try really hard to find The Line. I know it’s out there. I know I’ve crossed it on at least two occasions. Of course, I only know that after I’ve irretrievably crossed it.
And I pare down the information I give out. But WDW is so big and there is a lot going on that you need to know before you go. I DID NOT want what happened on those two previous occasions to happen again with them. A lot of people just don’t want to hear about all the things that go in to planning a Disney vacation. They just want it to be fun and easy. And it can be both those things. It’s just also a lot of leg work up front so that you have smooth sailing once you get there.
Luckily, Antigoni seemed totally on board and said that she trust me and that I should do my worst.
Oh honey, you have no idea what you just did.
That weekend after I talked to her, I put together a proposal with the breakdown in prices for April and June. I recommended April for the weather and surprisingly enough, some of the prices were slightly cheaper during Spring Break. And for Flower and Garden.
I gave her the value, moderate, and deluxe tier pricing but I recommended (surprise, surprise) Port Orleans Riverside! I think it’ll be nice and relaxing for them but still fun.
Tig (even more fun nickname!) picked Port Orleans Riverside, gave me her CC info, and told me to just book it!
I immediately called Disney pretending to be Tig. It was fun and kind of funny. At one point the CM had to put me on hold to check something and said, “Antigoni?” when she came back on the line. It threw me for a second. I also had to talk about my husband’s birthday and how we were so excited to celebrate at Disney. Hee hee.
I tried to get the Spring Deal but all the rooms except for Tiana’s royal rooms were unavailable. Which was crazy because just earlier that morning, there were regular rooms available with the offer. They were going FAST!
I didn’t think a guy turning 40 would want a royal room. So I had to go with a Garden View room – which cost more than the royal rooms at the discount. Not a lot more, just a few dollars. I thought that he would probably pay to not have a royal room. Which is what he did, actually. Or I did for him.
Got the room set with 5 day park hoppers and regular dining plan. Tig didn’t want to worry about anything so we went with the whole kit and caboodle!
I WAS going to stop there BUT I got nervous since they were well within their 180 day dining window. I needed to be on MDE but I didn’t have a login for her. I knew she was super busy so I created a new gmail account and created an MDE account for her. (Disney Espionage!) ADR shopping!
But before that, I had to come up with their itinerary for which park which days, which meant some research. And I had to really look at their dining options. Which is also a little nerve-wracking.
Tig owns a restaurant with her mom. She also is on local television doing cooking segments. She posts recipes, advice, and basically does what a Food Network star would do - just not on the Food Network. So I knew food was going to be a thing.
Up next: Food food food food food food food food – FOOD! (And an itinerary!)
