McDonalds Charging for Ketchup ?

In Germany they already do charge for it. One package is included with a combo meal at both BK and McDs. If you want more it is 20 cents a packet.

I don't mind it too much (though I admit to enjoying being able to have as much as I want on visits to the US)--it does cut down on waste. I dislike McDs ketchup so I never buy extra there, but I do at BK.

We first visited the UK in 1992. They charged 15p for ketchup packets, which was about 25 cents a packet. No freaking way were we paying for ketchup, so we passed.

Oh boy.... I had no idea this was going on. I can understand when they don't let customers help themselves to the ketchup packets, but I hope this isn't the start a of a 'pay for condiments' trend in the US . Good Grief !

One of our local McDonald's charges for dipping sauce if you ask for extra. Or if you ask for some when you aren't getting nuggets (like for fries).

Pretty stupid. I hate being nickeled and dimed for everything.

I have a hard enough time now getting ketchup. A large order and they had me 2. And 20 nuggets they had me 1 sauce:lmao:

Way back in the late 90's, the McDonalds near the University of Washington charged for extra packets. You got 1 packet if you ordered fries, but if you wanted another it was a dime. I thought they were joking the first time I ordered there. :confused3

Zaxby's charges I think $.75 for extra sauce, with good reason, their sauce is like crack. I hoard them.

Also the McD's around here will give you one sauce with a kids nugget meal or two with a 10 piece.

Well, the article says only in Manhattan. Its most likely people abusing the free ketchup and this is probably the only way to curb this issue...

In asian countries, most public bathroom dont have toilet paper because everyone takes them home.

In my area they have been charging for extra sauces and salad dressings for a long time (but not ketchup). They give one sauce for a 4 piece mc nuggets, 2 for a 6 piece, 3 for a nine piece, and 4 or 5 for a 20 piece. If you want more than that, or if you want sauces and don't get mc nuggets, they charge 35 cents for each one. If you get salad, it comes with one pack of dressing. If you want extras, they charge 75cents each. I don't think it's unreasonable.

There are so many wonderful places to eat in Manhattan that are not anymore expensive than McD's.

Okay, now I know for sure that I don't get out enough:rotfl: Thanks for informing me...at least now I won't be so shocked when I have to pay for my ketchup.

I see their point. How many times do you see on places like the Budget Board where people are being encouraged to take all the ketchup, napkins, straws, etc. they can get as a way to "save" money at home? These people get it all free and don't buy any of it for their own use, but it costs the restaurants money.

Restaurants can't eat losses like that forever, so they have to find a way to cut it down. Charging is their answer. Might not be right, but I can see their point. This is what happens when people abuse and game the system.

I guess this hasn't hit our area yet - my kids would have told me! :goodvibes
I suppose there is lots of waste and this is one way to try and cut down.

I don't mind at all if they give you a nominal amount, but charge for extras.

hate when I go to a place that has the packs of condiments out for self serve and people take a handful they are never going to eat.

This was me but the year was 1986 and I was 17. I was STUNNED when they wanted a few pence for ketchup. The lady even wanted me to stand in LINE to buy the ketchup for my fries. Talk about a shocker! :lmao:
