McCain cancels Letterman appearance

I don't care that he blew off Letterman. Nor would I care if he didn't blow him off and went on the show. It's the lying about it that bothers me. If you can't even tell Letterman the truth about why you're blowing him off, what does that say about you? McCain is pathological. Letterman busting McCain mid show was priceless. Here McCain canceled because he supposedly has to get to Washington pronto. Meanwhile, he's getting make up, was that another of McCain's $5,000 make up jobs, plastered on to interview with Couric to salvage Palin's disaster. Of course the usual people around here are all trying desperately to excuse it. And of course we're getting the usual mock outrage at Obama and grandstanding from them. Funny how this is now such a turbulent time for all of them and we're in a huge crisis, and McCain was right to blow off Letterman and lie to him when just last week right during the time when things were going badly, it was the fundamentals of the economy are strong and Americans are a bunch of whiners.

I can't believe that Sen McCain and his supporters are playing this out like a jr. high dance date drama. :sad2: :sad2:

But to be momentarily serious. Who here really thinks that if Letterman lied about what he was told the campaign would not have issued a statement (with a transcript as none of those calls go untaped)?

Bingo. Someone gets it. And why lie to letterman? Just tell him I've got to go on Couric and be done with it. But no. He's got to play the hero. I've got to go back to Washington to save the day. Yeah. Never mind McCain has nothing to do with any of the committees working on the bill and can certainly make his wishes known via the Blackberry he invented. It's so important. Meanwhile he's down the street. Of course he thought Letterman was a lightweight and nobody would figure it out. BUSTED!!!

Of course the American people weren't fooled. Only 10% of em wanted to cancel the debate. Then again Survey USA took the survey before the right wing talking heads could give out their marching orders. That's obviously liberal bias there.

Ok for the Reuplicans defending McCain after getting caught in another lie, I will agree Letterman is just a comedian...

And anyone remember where it was that McCain announced that he was running for president? Hint= it was not with Katie Couric.

I watched Letterman last night. He was stood up royal by McCain and let him have it as only Letterman can. It was a good opportunity for Palin to get some airtime. I think Letterman would have been very nice to her if she had chosen to take McCain's place.

OK - I just watched the clip from last night's Letterman. So what's McC's explanation for lying to Letterman? Surely his campaign has come up with something to explain this one.

McCain's campaign spokesperson was on The Today Show this morning and said that JM didn't mean he had to rush back to DC (which is what he told Letterman)...he MEANT that he couldn't do a funny show given the current events.

Letterman was funny back in the 1980's. He "jumped the shark" quite a few years ago.

I'm thinking they mean this is funny:

"You don't suspend your campaign. This doesn't smell right. This isn't the way a tested hero behaves." And he joked: "I think someone's putting something in his metamucil."

"He can't run the campaign because the economy is cratering? Fine, put in your second string quarterback, Sarah Palin. Where is she?"

"What are you going to do if you're elected and things get tough? Suspend being president? We've got a guy like that now!"

That was my favorite line.

And when they showed the feed from the CBS Evening News during the Late Show I was :rotfl: :rotfl: :rotfl: That made McCain look sooooo stupid!!!!!

I would seriously like to know how it was a lie. If you have an emergency that needs to be taken care of, you have a little bit of time to spare, enough to handle one project, not two, yet he lied because he chose Katie over Dave? And this is a major gotcha?

Lets see, we have one candidate that is going dow to handle the most dire crisis that has faced our economy in 80 years and because he has a little time to spare and chooses the major news person over the major fluff, and thats a major gotcha? The other candidate saying "ho hum, it's not that big a deal, call me if you need me" - not a word about that. Please.

As somebody mentioned earlier in the thread, if Letterman was not being truthful about what McCain told him, don't you think the McCain camp would have immediately released the transcript of the phone call? None of the presidential candidates make phone calls without them being recorded.

If Letterman was the one lying, the McCain camp would have seized the opportunity to debunk Letterman and the Today Show, NBC, ABC and all the bloggers that had a field day with this today.

Besides, one of his spokespeople admitted this morning that McCain didn't mean he had to be in Washington right away, he meant he couldn't do a funny show because it was not the right time.

I don't know. I tend to think it's more presidential not to waste time during a crisis getting in a pissing match with DL, but I know Obama would disagree because he's all about the multi-tasking.:lmao: It's amusing though if somebody actually did come out and say what McCain "meant to say", after all the times we've heard that exact line from someone in the Obama camp.:rotfl2:

Wow. I think he should be beheaded. Are you kidding me?

Who said anyone was lying? Why does there have to be someone lying? Because a Presidential candidate decides there is a crisis and needs to choose his options carefully, oh my, he had 15 minutes he could have spared for Dave. Sure. And give up something else he decided was more important. Contrarary to Dave "I'm a legend in my own mind" Letterman, he isn't the most important thing going on right now. Not even close.

You know, I have a lot of work on my desk. A whole lot. Since I left work at 5 today, and am doing things not work related, does that mean I'm not focused on my work? If I take a lunch break, even though I have work to do, wow, I made a choice that wasn't work. McCain made a choice that wasn't campaigning. Whoa. Serious damage to his campaign there. :lmao:
