McCain cancels Letterman appearance

Well I have to agree with Letterman's statement.

If you become President and a situation like this arises what are you going to do? Because this is what happens, several things come at you all at the same time.

Are you going to hold your hands up and say "Time Out" I don't think so.

If I was a Mccain supporter I would be quite upset with him at this moment.

It's not that he canceled the appearance, it's that he lied about why. Why not just say, "look, I've got a better gig with Couric and then I need to hop a plane to DC, sorry for the short notice, have your people talk to my people and we'll reschedule at a better time".

honesty would be nice... just fyi mccain was still in NYC this morning.....not in DC... quite an emergency

Now more than ever I hope McCain doesn't get elected. He can't run his campaign well, he's used poor judgment too many times, and he can't handle a crisis. This is just scary!!!

Really I don't see how anyone showing up for Letterman is a big deal to anyone but Letterman, all he would have done is cracked some jokes and talked all crazy trying to entertain people and you wouldn't have learned a thing about anything so to me what's the big deal.

I would have canceled him too, if I were trying to run for president and take care of other business, who has time to sit and have a bunch of jokes cracked at thenselves.

I have to disagree that its all jokes when a candidate is on with Letterman.

When he had Obama on, he was asking real questions and getting real answers from Obama once that was all done, yes he did make a few jokes and did ask about his family and where they were etc.

But you do have to admit that you know who Letterman likes and pretends to like, he can turn any conversation around and make you look stupid if he wants to, it's not like a news interview where they use tack and keep to the questions and I'm sure Mccain didn't feel like bothing with that with everything else going on.

After you posted that I turned on Letterman on my Tivo. Wow. It's crazy that they actually broadcast live video footage of him caught in a lie. Pretty smart move by the producers.

I'm of the opinion of many that it's fine that he cancelled (which Letterman said as well) but he personally called Letterman and said he was getting immediately on a plane to DC... then went and did an interview with Couric. Why not just say something like "right now a lot of Americans are in a serious crisis and I feel I need to be seen on a news show not a comedy show?" I think that would have gone over alot better... at the very least it would not have been comic fodder or given them the chance to show him live caught in a lie.
