I've updated the website to add photos for andgon and some of the ldssinglegirls and ldssingleguys. Keep those photos coming. I enjoy being able to put a face(s) to names and I'm sure others do as well. Send me an email with your photo attached or point to a link on Facebook if you've joined the group there. Thanks! :)

Hi Jeff, I emailed you with some pictures for the roll call :)

Thanks

Jeff,

Did your office do anything to mark the 40th anniversary of Apollo 13 today ?

No, not a thing. I saw a brief mention on it on the local Houston news this morning. I don't see any mention of it on www.nasa.gov though. It's interesting that you bring that up...while Apollo 13 was a failure in terms of achieving its planned mission it was perhaps one of NASA's most significant achievements. To be completely honest, by all rights those 3 astronauts should have died on that mission. What was done by the ground team and the crew to fly around the moon and return to Earth using the Lunar Module as a lifeboat was nothing short of miraculous. I think that is something we should celebrate - that "Can Do" attitude, the ability to rise to the most incredible challenges. It's representative not only of NASA's can do attitude, but the United States as a whole. I'm not so sure the powers that be today really want to look back because doing so puts into perspective how far we've regressed from the glory days of NASA as an agency and the US as a world leader. :confused3

We are arriving in Barcelona at 12:00 noon on May 13th (Spanair #452). I'm glad to hear that we might not go through customs until we reach Barcelona. Thanks for the info :)

We arrive around 10 AM on Iberia.
Good luck with your flight ;)

AMEN !

I think the Flight Commander at Mission control was credited with the statement, this will be our greatest moment - it sure was. I still remember being glued to the TV set while all this was occurring, I don't think we shut if off for 3 days. It is so hard to imagine just how y'all are able to solve problems here when your ships are thousands of miles away. I sure hope we do not hear that we are cutting even deeper into NASA exploration at the Summit.

Nice to hear from Lovell today, he led a heroic crew of NASA's finest.

Well, it just so happens my team and I sat around a table with a few pitchers of beer (maybe a few too many) tonight talking about this very subject. We became engineers to do amazing things...not fly to low Earth orbit for the last 29 years. We landed people on the moon 40 years ago with slide rules and computers with less capacity that what's in the typical kitchen appliance today! So we spend the last 3+ years figuring out how to get back to the moon and perhaps beyond and then we get a new Administration that decides we need to cancel that program and instead work on technology development. Technology development to do WHAT? :confused3

What kid in elementary school or high school is going to be inspired to pursue a career in science, math or engineering to do technology development? We as a country can come up with billions of dollars to fund a Cash for Clunkers car rebate program but we can't find a few billion to explore the solar system? Sadly, the reality is that the powers that be don't really care what NASA is doing any more. As long as the money keeps flowing to the states that house the NASA Centers and that money flows into the local economies, who cares if NASA really produces or does anything? The people that care are the workers. We still want to do great things. Sorry, my rant is completely :offtopic: and I'll shut up now. Back to the cruise. :)

Jeff...I completely agree with you. Was just talking with my boss today at lunch about how we can't find qualified American candidates for our jobs...seems like the only ones that are applying are from India. (Nothing against folks who work hard from India.) Today's American youth are not being inspired to study math, science, and engineering...it seems the only heroes these days that kids look up to are sports figures and faux celebrities. My brother and I grew up watching the Shuttle launches and dreamed of going into space. Funny enough, we both ended up in technical careers.

This is so true Jill! SAD but true. :sad2: I wish we could find some qualified American candidates to run for political office (from any party)...I can't remember the last time that happened. :confused3

back to the cruise....does anyone know how breakfast and lunch work?
If we have late dinner seating does that mean we also will have a later seating for breakfast and lunch?

Thanks, Nancy

Atlanta is a very easy airport to navigate. I fly through it probably a dozen times a year. The chances of the tram breaking down are not worth worrying about. Atlanta baggage handlers work what we think are tight connections routinely. Bottom line, I'd be more worried about he Madrid piece of your flight.

Thanks for the info:thumbsup2

Breakfast and lunch are up to you. You have choices of Topsiders buffet or Lumiere's sit down and order from a menu. Times vary, check your daily navagator. Also room service 24 hours. And don't forget pizza, burgers, salads, wraps and fresh fruit by the pools. You will not go hungry!:rotfl2:

I didn't think that Disney would provide travel from the airport to the hotel unless you book the hotel through them. They will do hotel to port if it is one of their partner hotels.

I read the q as having been from port to airport at the end of the cruise. Sorry if i got mixed up.
