May have lost my mind but I did it anyway!

WARNING - Type A's should walk away now!

Had a bit of a tough time recently, looking after elderly parents with health issues, leading to some financial and family challenges. Not to mention it's been over 3 years since we've been to Florida (oh the horror!) and wasn't looking good to make it back any time in the foreseeable future.

Fast forward to last week - mum with bowel cancer has op, is healing well and prognosis is good. Dad with dementia is coping with medication and much happier to have Mum back home and DH and I find out that we've come into some unexpected funds - not a fortune but enough to get us and DD to Florida !!

Now this is the point where I may have lost my mind! We consulted with DD (who may be 22 but is still as entranced with all things Floridian as she was when she was 8!) to find out when would be good for her because it would be unthinkable to go without her (to her anyway).

She's completing her MA degree and submission date for her dissertation is 15th September then she starts a fully funded PhD programme on 1st October - no way to take time off from then

So this is what I've done since Friday

• Booked flights to Miami leaving on 16th September - yes that's right two weeks tomorrow (retired airline staff so no issues on pricing at least!)
• Booked a Harry Potter vacation package at Hard Rock Hotel for 4 nights
• Made reservations for 3 Broomsticks and Leaky Cauldron breakfasts
• Booked a Little Mermaid room at AoA with 3 day park hopper tickets for 4 nights
• Set up an MDE account and made FastPass+ selections (which will probably be changed on the fly)
• Followed DIS thread and made FP+ for lunch at BOG
• Researched and booked hotel in Key West for 3 nights
• ESTA's submitted and authorised
• APIS data submitted
• Thought about making ADR's but I think my head would have exploded so since DD is now over 21, we'll take our chances with eating at the bar at Cali Grill, Narccossee's etc!

This is what DH has done since Friday

• Booked a hire car

This what DD has done since Friday

• Bought holiday clothes
• Called me to link her on MDE, ask what FP+ I've made and tell me where she want to eat

Wish me luck! I'll try to do a TR when I get back on a "last minute lost my mind" trip!

Fab decision .......... As my friend said to me the other day "YOLO" Took me some time to work it out but yes, "You Only Live Once" and another one I like to add after Ive done something impulsive (which happens quite often) .............. You're a long time dead!

Love these! I am forever telling my dad "There's no use being the richest man in the grave yard!" He is retired and has a good pension but he continues to save money for his kids when hes gone. The thought is lovely but I completely abide by the motto YOLO!!! Live in the now and worry about the tomorrow when it comes

Thank you to all for the good wishes! It has been a very worrying time but so glad we're able to do this holiday! I've done short notice trips before but not on this scale and not having to contend with the changes at WDW since we last visited!

But it's all good - I did FP+ for what was available on what I THINK we'll be doing coz I could! but it's a low crowd time so I think we'll do what we have always done - wing it!!!! Luckily we've been many times before and I don't have a little one (although DD has intimated that meeting Anna & Elsa would be cool!). We also aren't picky where or when we eat so it's all good!

Other than the WDW component, I have no plans but really looking forward to seeing Diagon Alley at USO and then chilling at Sloppy Joes, Hogs Breath, Fat Tuesdays and Margaritaville in Key West!
