May 5, 2010 Magic of Barcelona

:rotfl::rotfl::rotfl::rotfl:

My DH sorts his stuff out and hides it all in the back of the wardrobe so I can't see that he has sorted it out so early, stupid man doesn't think I look in the wardrobe :lmao:

Opening my husband's wardrobe would be like opening Fibber McGee's closet! Everything would come flying out at me. He packs his own stuff and I'm positive nothing will be right. I bought him a nice suit for his birthday today. He didn't have one and I thought it would be nice for the cruise (formal night) but he hated it of course and will be taking it back tomorrow. So while some husbands will be walking around in swimshorts all day. Mine will probably show up in swimshorts on formal night! :headache:

For some reason I am putting off the packing. We have a shopping trip to Foley, AL planned for this weekend, so maybe I will get in gear after that when I feel like I finally have everything for the cruise. Oh, and don't worry about your husbands. I will be lucky to convince mine to wear a tie with slacks to Palo and formal night.

I'm still looking for a few things before I start packing. I need capris or pants that are comfortable for touring, I have a few pairs, but I'd like at least one more. I haven't had much luck with my usual favorite stores. Everyone seems to be out of petite sizes.

I also need to get a few good books for the trip :goodvibes

My husband isn't big on dressing up either but he does it once in a while. He was just going to bring his sports coat and a tie with dockers for formal nights and Palo. He's still not sure if he'll bring his Military Mess Dress (or if it will fit!) :)

Hi CJ'S mom

I PM'd you on 04-09 in reply to your PM. Did I mess up and not send it correctly?

Diane

Do they still have the Disney outlet in Foley? We used to go up there and shop and eat at Lambert's Cafe (home of the throwed rolls, y'all!). Destin had a Disney outlet for awhile, but it closed last year.

We leave for Paris next Saturday. I'm hoping by then the ash won't be an issue. Geez, volcanic ash, mudslides in Italy...if a bunch of locusts show up in Spain, I'm going to start getting concerned!

I don't remember it being there last time. I love the throwed rolls too! We actually decided not to go because the hotel rates are so much. Guess I'll just be hitting Kohls and JC Penney around here.
I called and let our bank know about the trip for our debit cards yesterday and enabled international roaming on my verizon cell in hopes that I might use it on the ship if needed. Feels like everything is falling into place. Can't wait!
Who wants to go to Malta in 3 weeks? (says casually)

he he he..funny!!
Well I'm in England and I can report today was one of the nicest, clearest, warmest days we've had in quite a long time. Although this does mean high of about 55! But that's warm for us!

This volcano stuff is crazy... I'm really hoping it will clear up soon so it doesn't affect anyone's travel plans. I think I would be concerned if we were on the 4/24 cruise. My husband was supposed to be home from an overseas trip today, but now it's looking like they may not get back until Monday.

And lets not forget about all the earthquakes recently...at least we've got awhile to go before hurricane season starts!

Hi Diane,
Got it and posted back to you today. However, the system has been acting weird for me....logging me in and out at random times...so let me know if you don't get it.

I'm amazed by those of you who are so on top of things that you are packed 2-3 weeks in advance!:worship: My goal is to be packed 2 days in advance (however, my past history is to be packing up to the moment we depart for the airport :rolleyes1).

Does anyone else feel like they have a ton still to do before this cruise? I sure do....not only getting my daughter and I ready and packed but getting everything in order for dh and the other 3 kids to do without me for almost 3 weeks.
Got a couple things done today - found a prom dress at last for eldest dd (prom is while we are on the cruise), now just have to shop for accessories, called all the cc companies, got youngest dd a haircut so she's presentable on the cruise....bit by bit the list is getting knocked out....somehow it will all be done by the time departure day comes. :hourglass

My sons all need haircuts as does my husband. I'm trying to stretch it out but don't think they're going to make it as they're looking very shabby now.

Not packing anything yet but each day I have deliveries from various stores around the UK and Europe. I got one of my formal dresses today and my Versace sunglasses :cool2:

My husband, who hates the gorgeous suit I bought him...just recieved two t shirts today which are fantastic if you're 16! He's such a child!

I printed all my documents the other day. My cruise contracts, boarding passes, travel insurance and coach tickets back to London. I have two drinks carriers from McDonalds I threw in my sons carry on bag. I bought two of my sons a bunch of new clothes and sandals but the other two, still nothing!

Just to let you guys know, the other blogger on the ETBA cruise finally posted a big trip report so far with pictures. It is really interesting. It is under the Schwetje Family link on the website here. http://may5med.weebly.com/links.html
Another girl, Heather has been continually blogging, and if you haven't read hers, it is also really good. They make me so excited about our cruise (and wish we had like 1 more sea day)

I'm sorry that he doesn't like the suit you picked out! Is it suits in general, or that this one is not to his taste? I wonder if he would be willing to compromise and exchange it for one that he can live with....have him pick it out of a bunch you pre-approve ;) .

All this trouble with cancelled flights and spreading ash...my heart goes out to the first Med. cruisers, and I'm actually starting to wonder/worry a bit for all of us. Thinking positive, ash-free thoughts!!!!

Thanks for the heads up that the Schwetje's report had new news! I enjoy reading all points of view, helps me know what to expect. She is not the first to report that the food is a notch below normal for DCL....I'm hoping I don't agree with them, I've really enjoyed the food on DCL in the past (the sit down meals, the buffet is rather blah). I'm wondering why the food would be not as good, the supplies being used are from the states for their cruise, so you can't even factor in different suppliers being used as a reason.....trying not to be concerned. I do rather like to eat :lovestruc

It HAS been so cold lately, hasn't it? We are in S Germany, and I'm freezing :(.....I dug my winter down parka back out of the closet two days ago, I hate backtracking .....today is warmer and the sun it out for the first time in ages, I'm so ready for summer!!

I haven't started packing yet.....I don't have THAT much underwear :lmao:. I tend to wait until a couple of days before at the soonest. It works for me, I rarely forget something.

You do have a lot on your plate to get ready for before you leave!! How exciting about your DD's prom, I'm sure you have instructed many photos to be taken.

I'm also a little worried for us too... I read somewhere that the ash cloud may be around for a bit because it's not moving much... I'm really hoping that's not the case. We're flying to Barcelona with a connection in Frankfurt. I know it's way early, but I may call the DCL flight desk on Monday to see if they have contingency plans in place. I'm thinking positive thoughts for all of us and for those first Med cruisers too! It's looking like my husband might make it back from his trip by Monday. They finally got the ok to fly out yesterday, but they're having to go a special route to get around the cloud. I'm hoping they won't send him on another trip before his leave starts! :goodvibes
