May 3rd-10th****Dis Maytees-May Magic send off

HAPPY BIRTHDAY DAWN!!!!!!!!!! You sound like a very lucky lady. :cool1: Congrats to hear of your new Disney plans.

Just wanted to share some 'news' with my Disney Family.

First off, let me say that I need to join Disney Anonymous because I have come to the conclusion that I have a serious addiction with the Mouse. :worship:

So here's the scoop. One year from today, I turn the big '40'. My husband agreed that we could go on a Southern Caribbean cruise (RCCL) and I was happy about that. But deep down, I was having several second guessing instances. First off...it's not DISNEY and my kids will have gone on Disney twice (characters, Oceaneer's Club, etc.)...would they like it? Would they be old enough (at 6) to do rock climbing and some of the other COOL activities on the ship? Let's not even talk about the cost. Although it was about half the price of Disney (easter week '09), there were no shipboard credits to be had which means EVERY excursion we book we'd be paying for :scared1: (For this cruise, we have a good amount in credits...MUCH easier to handle!). Then there's the little matter of airfare....to fly to Puerto Rico is RIDICULOUSLY expensive. So the 'savings' began to diminish.

Pt2...In October, my DH is going to Vegas to see his friend get married. I am invited, but what to do with the kids? My parents will be back in FLA so that wouldn't work. Then I thought....Hmmm...it would be cool to try Mickey's Not So Scary Halloween Party (MNSSHP) again. (we did last year, but it POURED 95% of the time). It was REALLY COOL minus the rain. So, I checked out a long weekend at Disney in late October. My season passes would be expired by this point. My reaction -- :scared1: Seriously! So, then I had a discussion with him about REDOING the season passes (because after all, you go twice and they're paid for), but instead of renewing NOW, wait a month and then buy new and then just activate in October when we go. Plus, now...they offer the dining plan for season pass holders (which if you like doing character meals makes it totally worth it). So, that's what we're doing. I'm going to keep it a secret from the kids and we'll just 'go'. So, I cancelled the RCCL cruise and am going to have ANOTHER year of Disney...I am happy again. :)

Dawn McG

:thumbsup2 Excellent! Kind of sounds like it was the ONLY possible decision really!!!
Ahh.the Mouse. Only believers really know :worship:

(not meant to be irreverent btw..........!)

My fish extender came today. I ordered it on Ebay within the last week or so. It's already here (two in fact). Perfect.

Happy Birthday, Dawn!

As for the Disney addiction, I understand. DH gives me grief because I tell him that being at Disney for the marathon doesn't count because I am running the whole time. And, the cruise doesn't count because that is a vacation for my mom. I need yet another trip each year for it to count.

Hi -

Linda keeps telling me to introduce myself to our fellow cruise mates:) I'm Lisa and am just as excited as Linda is to be on the Magic sooner than later!!!

Yes, she has packed an entire suitcase already, LOL, and although mine is open and on the guest bed, it's not nearly as packed as hers! I'm still trying to just my head around the clothes I will need. Since we only did the 4-day last time, trying to put 3 days of more clothing selections just seems so much harder this time.

I've been working on special t-shirts for us and the 4 friends that are coming with us and am also working on magnetic door signs too. :surfweb: It beats real work! I minored in graphic design and just love creating fun stuff.

We're in Asheville, NC and it got back down to freezing weather today...seems weird when I'm buying shorts!

Looking forward to meeting you and seeing you all in person!

Lisa

OK, I'm not doing the quote thing, but...

1) Thanks for the well wishes...very appreciated. Just another day though really since I worked today. Went out to dinner, but didn't really like my entree...I told the waiter though (I am not shy) and he took it off the bill which was nice (and he didn't even KNOW it was my bday). :)

2) Fish extender...I haven't heard anything...should I or does it just show up?

3) We're traveling Spirit Air out of Atlantic City...getting in the day before, driving to Cape Canaveral and having dinner at Kelsey's Pizzeria (right next to the Radisson). I mentioned before it's sort of a 'tradition' for us now because my niece's name is Kelsey (which is a Nordic name so kind of funny that it is a pizzeria).

4) I see we have another family added...so we can have two families go on the sea days, perhaps...Again, I'm good with any day except Grand Cayman day...that would be crazy for me. I'm mostly staying on the ship for Cozumel so that would work...

5) Brandie--WHEN did you book the OTHER double dip and HOW did you talk hubby into it? YOWZA! Are you going to try to rebook it on the cruise to get the discount? I would recommend trying that. Also...do I need to meet you somewhere to try to get you eating with us?

6) We just got the kids' school schedule for 2009. THANKFULLY, I was right about the Easter week and being off. I was STUNNED at how much they're off. HOLY SMOKES!

Ciao all!
Dawn McG

That's about it folks.

Hi Lisa!!!!!!! So nice to see you on here!!!!!!!! I too tried to convince DH to join the boards and say "hi" but to no avail... I guess that is my thing.

Anyway, yes... the packing is definitely hard. I can't seem to figure out how to have less than 2 outfits per day?! :laundy:

It won't be too long until we are going to be able to do the single digit dance.

See you aboard. :wizard:

I have a great TA with a wonderful group rate, and my mom called me to see if I wanted to rebook the 2009 Double Dip. We're trying to organize a family + extended family cruise. Going on the 2009 cruise lets us re-use the website we are using for organizing this year's Double Dip. We'll price out connecting Cat 6's on the boat, but I don't expect to get a better price ($5654.08 for two Cat 6's from Greg, versus Disney's price of 7,166.08). Lemme know if you're interested, and I'll pass on Greg's info. He said he had 16 more cabins the other day.

Where's a good place (and when??) to meet to go try and get our dining changed? Maybe I should just try calling you and give you our cell phone numbers for when we get on the boat? Or do we even need to both show up, seeing as our reservations are already linked?

Happy Birthday! I'm sorry I didn't pick up on that earlier!

I haven't written for a while but I have been reading every post.

First- Happy Birthday Dawn!!

I am getting super excited now. My health has been improving and it was determined that I don't have congestive heart failure. Yippee!

I am getting stressed a lot though. We have a huge neighborhood garage sale the weekend before we leave. I know I am crazy, but I have been cleaning out the kids rooms all winter and I really want to get rid of everything and make some vacation money.:rolleyes1

Melissa asked what airline we are flying in on. We are flying direct from Seattle on Alaska Air. We flew Delta to LA at Christmas and it was okay. Delta is well known for NOT being on time and they proved it to us when our flight out of SEA was delayed over 2 hours. So, be prepared for delays.

We don't arrive to MCO until 6pm, so we can't meet up for dinner at the Cape with you all. We will have a rental car and get some dinner on the way though. We are staying at the Radisson, so we will have a pool meet with anyone staying there.:thumbsup2

Well, less than 3 weeks to go. Woohoo! No work for 2 weeks.

So pressing an evening dress is $4 then....? Pressing half the laundry price....
Thats useful info ...thanks for finding that!

Presume the alternative is a walk to the laundry room, which may not be so bad an idea....depending on the time of day I guess

Thanks Fizzgig!

My pleasure!

I would -not- trust the laundry room irons with my evening dress, personally. :scared1: But seeing as it is cheaper to use the dry cleaning on the boat than around town here, we'll be taking advantage of that.

But if you're talking about normal clothes, I have heard it takes 2 drying cycles to each washer load, and to bring lots of quarters. I'm debating bringing the drop-in soap for the washer, but I also need liquid fabric softener in my life.

It seems a good idea for some..but I have never done laundry on holiday ever before, even on 3 week hols so I guess I won't be starting this time :) Might use the iron if needs be....lol
I do bring travel wash to rinse through the fave undies, odd problem from spillage etc etc.........but generally......it ends up in a mountain on the Utility room floor on return to UK!
I agree the boat (ship?) prices are very reasonable..so makes sense:thumbsup2

Hope at least some of us meet up to share our nicely pressed outfits for photos...it will be great fun!
Lyn

Thanks for the reminder. Yet another thing to do in the next 2 weeks -- take suit and evening dress to the dry cleaners.

(sigh) So much to do. So little time. Oh, wait, that's a good thing :-)

We do laundry at least once on the ship. With several kids and my mom who is a stroke patient, we always have accidents that require a quick wash. I must say that a bottle of Shout is always needed as well.

I'm with you on not doing laundry. I haven't ever done laundry on vacation before, so I am definitely not going to start! However, I do think that instead of getting my dress drycleaned here, I'm going to just get it done on board, 'cause then it is going to be nice and pressed. I'm sure DH's clothes will need pressing too, but at those costs, why not!? We'll all look great!!!!!!!

Yay!!!!!!!!!!!! IT IS COMING SOON!

Yeah! Our cruise docs are here! Was starting to question whether I was on the correct year?!??!?!?!:lmao:

ANyways, I PM's captured....OOPS....I was supposed to PM CruisinEars!:rotfl: It's late! I was never added to the Fish Extender list so I wanted to make sure that everyone knew that we were participating and to update their lists!! I've gotten all of that stuff but haven't bought ONE other thing. Have 2 girls and myself to shop for clothing and all of that other stuff that takes up a whole other suitcase!! I'm looking forward to this trip but I am OVERWHELMED because it's come down to the last wire and I have to get a packin! Our schedule has been crazy and I have guests leaving Thursday so I'll be hitting the stores then!!

It is funny, about the wrong year, but trust me, that has happened before!!!!!!!!!!! :scared1: So wrong, and scary.

Anyway, I still have tons to do and I can't believe it is pretty much only 2 weekends left. This weekend, we have to visit the inlaws a few hours away, and I'll be spending the nite and then next weekend, I only have ONE day off (working Saturday)... aaaaaakkkkk!!!!!! I still haven't finished my shopping!!!!!!!!

Of course, in no way would I insinuate that I want the cruise to be further away. ;)

Don't worry about it it's not a problem. Do you want me to send your info over to CruisinEars or did you do that already?

Trust me if it can be done I can do it.

I started shopping in January knowing how things get right before an event I can only imagine a trip. I still have a few minor things to pick up. I have more of a to do list than a shopping list. I may have some last minute shopping for DH. Why do they always wait until the last minute to get excited or prepared for anything. Good thing I got my stuff out of the way so I can focus on him.
