We have no electricity...

Bad storms moved through our area last night and knocked out the electricity to some 180,000 homes. According to DH we are still without power and one of my kids teachers told him she heard it might be a couple of days before we get it back.

So if you don't hear from me in awhile you'll know why.

Still no cruise documents for me yet. I just booked the only excursion I think we will do. Next item on the agenda -- create the packing list and start shopping for the essentials (like lots of hand sanitizer).

Awww... so, we have been kind of keeping an eye out to see when the new Simpsons ride is going to open at Universal, as we are going on the 10th of May. We haven't been before, so we are just happy to visit... but we were pretty disappointed to see that they are going to be opening the ride on the 15th!!!!!!! How close!!!!!!!

How likely do you Universal vetrans think it'll be that they'll do a soft opening days before

I've never done it either; however, my understanding is that you just need to have a hanging folder type thing affectionately called a "Fish Extender" on the boards. I got mine by searching for "Fish extender" on e-bay. Then, you get whatever surprises you want to sneak into the fish extenders of people here who said they want to participate. From what I hear, it can be anything from something local to your region to a recipe to a kind note to pretty much anything else.

Please feel free to correct me if I am wrong, anybody.

I'm back. Our power finally came on at 10:00 last night. We were without it about 19 hours. Crazy busy couple of days ahead. Thanks for all the well wishes.

Please remove me from the fish extender list. Sorry I think everyone got confused about whether I'm participating or not. I mentioned in a previous post that we weren't going to. Sorry.

I'll respond better later. My youngest son's birthday party is tomorrow and I've got a lot of catching up to do. It's hard to get ready for a party when you've had no electricity and by the time you get home it's almost dark.

OOOO thats disappointing for us too..as thats the day we move to disney, and It will probably not be worth altering our itinery just to go back to Universal just for that, as I expect the lines will be impossible the first few days. We will join you in hoping for lucking on a soft opening ride!

Thanks for the well wishes. I'm sure it will be fine. nothing fancy just some close friends and a few neighbors in the back yard. We had to go shopping for it last night instead of earlier as I would have liked but didn't want to buy even more food if we weren't going to have a place to store it. Or buy a cake mix if I wasn't going to be able to bake. We've have a gas stove but it won't light without electricity. I can manually light the burners, but not the stove.

Fortunately, we got the bad weather over with earlier this week. Last year a big storm blew threw right in the middle of his party. The tornado sirens went off and luckily everyone I invited lives right around here. They all ran to their houses and we had a brief intermission during the middle of our party but it all worked out alright. My son kept saying this is the worst birthday ever as we were sitting in the bath tub. I said well at least our house isn't getting carried away. And when it blew over everyone returned and we resumed our normal programming.

Okay need to quit hanging around here and get busy.

Leia's Mom gave you a pretty good run down of how it works! In addition to things from your corner of the world, people gift cruise mates little snacks, fun things for the pirate party like glow sticks/necklaces, little beach toys, Disney related goodies, just little mementos or party favors.

We only have to do it once. There was some discussion (as of yet unresolved) of if we wanted to make a schedule of who has what day. I could go either way, although I think organizing such a schedule might be difficult. What does everyone else think?

In regards to fish extenders: I thought it would be a good idea to kind of spread out the delivers so the kids get a "surprise" every day. I know it is hard to plan how your days our going to go on a vacation so it might not work, but if we all were giving a day and you had all day to deliver it wouldn't be that bad. What do you all think.

I'm flexible with how we do it. My daughter is looking forward to being the "fish fairy" and just dropping of gifts. I think I will try to have several little things so that we can do it more than once; however, we'll see after we get the final list and how much time I have to go shopping.

So, a designated day would be fine; however, I think flexibility to surprise at random times would be great as well.
