May 29, 2004---Who is with us?

7 days for us too! Our flight leaves 6pm next Thursday. We're looking forward to doing some of the things that we didn't get to do last year. #1 on that list is to relax and watch the ocean go by.

We are also looking forward to meeting up with everyone. Deck 7 veranda at 3:30 is good for us. Anyone know of a good plan B location, per Bernetta's suggestion? Since we are planning on aft, are there any good locations on decks 9 or 10 aft as an alternate?

We are planning on being near the front of the boarding line on Sat. morning. So if you see a family of 4 sun deprived northerners near the front of the line, that's us :)

Paul

Chairee0, that's a good idea about having a plan B in case deck 7 is closed.

There's the Promenade lounge (can't remember which deck)?

What does everyone else here suggest if deck 7 is closed?

SimbaNoodle, the I think the most exciting part of a family vacation is your situation, where you know what's in store but your children don't!:bounce: :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc I still get choked up when I think of the first time we took DD to WDW. Her squeals exceeded our expectations.

The Promenade lounge is a great back up in case of rain or deck 7 being closed. It is on deck 3, aft. That way it will be easier for Lewis to get the drinks!!!!!!!!

Sounds like it is going to be a race to the front of the line. Not sure if we will have our lime green shirts on or not. Tchrmom does not want to be the only one in green.

Almost there:Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :Pinkbounc :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

For our last cruise, they were OK, however.....almost every family had them. I'm not sure I want to be the only family in line who looks like a group if green apple martinis.

Started making out my "what to wear each night to dinner" schedule. That always makes it easier on XLT800 when he packs.
:D

Quick question:

How many suitcases is each family bringing? Including carry-on's. This is the first time we will be cruising with the kids and it seems we are bringing way to much.

Dave, as far as drinks go, I don't mind buying a few, but last time I checked it was a three way tie.::yes::

It should be a great week.

Lewis

How many suitcases?? LESS IS MORE!! I bring only one and I try to keep it NOT full. I do have a carry on for necessities I will need before I get to the room and things like alcohol, etc.

I always pack too much. I was much better in January on my last 7-night cruise. I try to mix and match tops and bottoms. I actually make a list/spreadsheet to determine what I'm wearing where and when...like to formal, semi, tropical, Lumiere's, etc.

I trim down on footwear because I wear sandals for everything except the gym which requires me to bring athletic shoes. I hate to look like a tourist while traveling so I tend to wear button up short sleeve shirts and mid-calf shorts (capris).

I do try to keep separate clothes for the clubs vs dinner vs shore. Or at least wear them in an order. Like clothes I wear to the clubs can end up smelling smokey so I won't wear them again. In port you can get sweaty so I don't like to wear those to dinner or whatever.

Keep in mind most people you see you will never see again! :) Mix and match, wear the same clothes twice...I only wear dinner clothes for 4 hours, no harm in wearing them twice. A normal day is 12-16 in one set of clothes, so 2 sets of 4 is still less.

LESS IS MORE!

Fran, does your DH do the packing? (Guess what, mine does too!) I use to want to do it myself, but his way is really more efficient. I usually have the fun(?) of unpacking.

SimbaNoodle, you asked how many suitcases each family is bringing. If I remember correctly, last year we (DH, DD, and me) brought 4 checked bags and 3 carry-ons/backpacks). If there's anything we butt heads about while cruising, it's the number of bags. We do try to pare it down, but it's hard. This year we're including a hanging garment bag (it will ease the unpacking) and hopefully it'll free up one suitcase. We also try to bring an extra bag for souveniers.

Yes...I do the majority of the packing. I am the only one that can figure out how to pack 60 pairs of shoes. I am told that it is "normal" for a 9 year old girl to "NEED" a pair of shoes for each outfit. Don't they make a pair of sandels to go with everything? Kinda like black shoes for men???

Lewis...last cruise we took 6 bags plus we each had a carry on. DW does not want to have to do laundry on vacation. We find plenty of room under the bed to store everything.

7 days and counting:bounce: :bounce: :bounce:

Dave, 60 pairs of shoes? What's so unusual about that? I identified right away when I read that.

I would've sworn that my DH wrote that reply, as it's the issue we have each time we vacation. I've promised that DD and I will try to cut back on the shoes, but I know it won't be easy.:hyper:

How did I know there was not going to be much support on the shoe issue?

Paul, Robert, David, Lewis, Gerald, Shawn, Larry, Rob, Fred.......do I have any support here?

And just to let you know in advance NOT to believe anything that tchrmom might say...........It is well known that she is a pathelogical lier:teeth: :teeth: :teeth:

Can we consider today over and just get the weekend started now?

Dave

Shall we start one? :)

My sister who will be traveling w/me definitely needs one. I'm working on her. I can't say I'm not a shoe hog as I decide what shoes to get rid of so I can buy more shoes. Really I only own about 20 or so pair of shoes, but they all serve a purpose don't they?? :)

I do one pair of black sandals, one pair of brown sandals. And yes, I wear sandals with my suit! :smooth: It leaves more room for what I buy on vacation (more shoes?? hehe). Note to self...need to buy new brown "dress" sandals...

Balance fashion and function...your suitcase will thank you!

I vote that the weekend has begun!
Or, at least for me it has!:hyper:

After DD's birthday slumber party tonight, I'll be able to "get serious" about this cruise business!

Don't let XLT800 fool any of y'all................I can think of at least 5 pairs of shoes that he took on the October cruise. But, if he thinks men only wear black shoes...............I can't wait to see him standing in the line to board in shorts and his dress shoes for Palo!:rotfl:

Fran

I can tell you right now that I can pack 6 pairs of shoes for the 3 pair I will back for DSS's size 14 feet! Let's keep the size of the shoe in mind, please! ;)

Thanks for the Konk cooler recipe! If I don't get to the store for all the mixers, I'll just drink rum and coke and dream about someone else mixing me one!

I feel your pain Dave. I will have 1 pair of dress shoes, 1 pair of sneakers and 1 pair of sandals. I would just bring the sandals if I thought I could get away with it. My beloved wife however, will probably hit the ten pair mark with ease. I will let you know as we begin to pack. Going to try and do some packing tomorrow so we don't have to deal with it during the week.

Had tons of meetings this week and couldn't keep my mind off of the warm winds at the sail-off party. On the plane this time next week. :boat:

"Fewer shoes in the bags means more room for wine!!"

Did someone say SHOES??? hahaha - this is one of those guilty pleasures of mine - a girl can never have too many pairs of shoes! I won't tell you how many pairs we had on this past February's trip between my mother, sister, and myself! It was A LOT! I'll try my best not to pack too many for next week's trip - but I have so many pairs of flip flops that I love! hehehe.

Seriously though, I don't want to overpack since I'm the one lugging it all around. I'll be working on it tomorrow since it looks like I'm going to be very busy at work this week. This time next week I'll be relaxing at the Hyatt! woo hoo!

"Fewer shoes in the bags means more room for wine!!"

Brenbug, you're a guy after my own heart (but I just use one suitcase just for shoes and STILL pack my wine! ;)

I am afraid I'm going to be forced to buy the internet package to check in at the office next week :( too much going on--I sure do hate "organizational change management" otherwise called "be the one who's helping the big dogs cut someone else's jobs so they don't cut yours management"

My backup plan is to rent beach chairs to large hairy fat men in speedos at Trunk Bay...

:cool1: :jumping3: :cool1: :jumping3: :cool1:

This time next week, I'll be organizing my room at the Radission, and preparing to GO TO THE PORT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:jumping1:

We survivied DD slumber party! Today is actually her birthday!
:bday:
Happy 9th B-Day to her!

I will not get on the shoe issue this morning, as I'm afraid to tell XLT800 how many I plan on taking. Better to just add them after he's done packing.::yes::
Have GREAT Sat.!
See y'all next Sat. on the Magic!

Sorry Dave,

I can't help much with the shoes. We are packing one suitcase with nothing but shoes. I'm bring 6 pair if you count water shoes.

But, wife and DD are bring twice that.::yes::

Just found this discussion forum last evening.

We're on board DW, DD, DS (8) and DD (6) with DGM (grandmother) and DGF (grandfather)
Sounds like a great group, great fun and a great cruise.

We will be at the Radsson Friday with late dinner on the cruise.

Looking forward to the Disney high seas!

Welcome wyodiscruise......Glad you found us. We are having a dis meet at 3:30 Sat on the secret deck 7 veranda. If it is raining (which we do not anticipate) we will meet in the promanode lounge on deck 3............please join us, the more the merrier. Paul (NYdiscruiser) has a spreadsheet that he can give you a link to.
