Just need to vent to someone...

So I have had this vacation planned for almost 1 year and work has known about it since booking. I am an executive assistant and support 4 guys and I am a back up 3 more of which 2 are the President/CEO and COO of the company.

Anyway, I just sent out an email to the group I work with giving them the 2 week count down - so they can get things to me to get done so my back-up who just started with the company on April, 26th would not go crazy.

So the plan was to have our receptionist cover phones at my desk as well as little tasks that come from my group and we would hire a temp for the front desk. Well, guess what - our receptionist just gave her notice. Now I am totally stressed about my guys being taken care while I am gone. I know this is not my fault, but why do I feel so bad?

Thanks for listening...

BTW - I have lost 18 lbs to date - hoping for 2 more before the cruise. Now I have to try on my dresses and bathing suit this weekend to see if I fit or if I need to go shopping.

I am also eating Lime GREEN Jell-o (sugar free - per the diet) and thought about all of you on the DIS.

You hang in there! It sounds like your job is one like ours that there is 3x's the amount of work to come back to. So, you've done everything you can possibly do; preparation for you and them. When you come back, I'm sure it will be to a group of guys who appreciate you a lot more! :cloud9:

2 weeks and counting:woohoo:

I went to the ipod site and downloaded just the free stuff. There is a charge for the Spanish, Italian and French language lessons. The free downloads are the same video as the DVD we rec'd in the mail. I really enjoyed watching the DVD, so it was nice to download it to my iPod to watch again.

Sue i have sprint did you have them add international calling on your phone to get a cheaper rate. How does all that work cindy

You have to add international roaming to your phone. Just call Sprint.

So that everyone is aware, there are two "factions" inside of Sprint. There is regular "Sprint" and also "Sprint Nextel". For those that formerly had Nextel service you should already have a SIM. Nextel phones have had SIM cards for years.

Rick Steves has a good article on cell phone usage and explains all about GSM, SIMs, etc.

Think of a SIM as an xD picture card for phones. It's just flash memory that holds your personal information, address book, etc. It's portable from phone to phone as needed.

Hope that helps!

I had to post something for the "why now" question.

My mom has been having problems with her shoulder for 6-9 months now. She is not good about follow up with the doctor, but it has been getting worse. She finally went to see him in April, he gave her some antiinflammatories and said if not better in a couple weeks to come back. She came back at the end of April and he took an x-ray. There was a foreign body the size and shape of a marble in her shoulder very close to the rotator cuff. He scheduled an MRI which was determined to be a calcium deposit but it was impinging on various areas in the shoulder. Yesterday she met with a surgeon and Monday she has surgery. They are hoping they can do it arthroscopically, but they have have to open it up (there's a bunch of things they are going to do). Recovery time will be 6 weeks (arthroscopically) to 6 months (open) :scared1: Now I have to schedule a trip up there next week for a few days because she also doesn't listen when the doctor says "don't lift" "don't drive", etc.. At least I'll have a computer with me :)

:grouphug: :grouphug: :grouphug:

My (soon to be former) boss just had a shoulder surgery. The recovery was definitely longer than she expected. She's in enough pain that "don't lift" is a given.

Talking about (stubborn?) parents, my mother had appendicitis about 10 years ago. She felt really bad pain at work and knew something was really wrong. Do you think she went to the hospital? NO! She drove herself all the way across town to my grandparents house and had them drive her to the hospital. By the time she got to the hospital her appendix had burst. When I asked her why she was so (*)(^&)*(_ stupid, she told me that she didn't want to be in a hospital in Clearwater since she thought it was a bit to far for her parents to drive to visit her. :scared1:

Thank goodness the story had a happy ending!

I'm so sorry! How stressful. I am in a similar boat. My dear boss decided to take another job. She announced this and three days later went into surgery. Her last day is Friday. I'm taking over her job but am not allowed to announce it until she gets back. But I leave in two weeks for three weeks - so it's really a bit stressful! I feel you pain. I'm sure you'll get things all squared away before you leave. Think of it this way - they'll appreciate you that much more when you get back!

When is everyone planning on wearing this cruise shirts? Just wondering! :) Don't want to get it dirty to find out everyone is wearing them the NEXT day! :)

We got our DOCs yesterday...nothing special as usual... at least we have them!

Funny thing we are "test packing" (don't leave until the 23rd) and I fit everything into ONE suitcase for me... DH needs 1.5 suitcases!!! HAHAHAHAHA! (Shoes/toiletries are all in another bag for the family)

Everything will be unpacked and then re-packed a few more times and then divided between the suitcases to ensure if one suitcase gets lost that we all have a little of everything! :)

YIPPIE!

No docs for me yet either....(no surprise)....but I did check my ressie online and we're still across from Peter and Jen, so no upgrade for us. At least if I run out of underwear, I can always borrow from my neighbor.:rotfl:

For those ladies (guys turn your heads if you don't want to go there:rolleyes1 !) out there that are underwear challenged... i mean don't want to use the ship services and don't want to kill space in your bags. I found this WONDERFUL undies at Target the other day. 16 pairs packed down and fit in a ziplock and fit inside my SHOE!!!!! YIPPIE! PLus it is so light and dries so fast that you can sink wash with NO issues.

It is a Hanes microfiber ultrastretch. The come two to a pack for $5ish. I swear they look so tiny but stretch and fit ultra PERFECT... comfy and don't ride up! Even come in a variety of styles and colors!
:dance3:

Okay, no more underwear talk from me. :lmao:

Still wondering when people are WEARING THEIR CRUISE SHIRTS!??? Huh! hehe

:confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3 :confused3
