May 24, 2014 Alaskan 9 night Wonder

Welcome Aboard. Wow, coming from Japan, are you living there?

The more trip reports I read and pictures I see from trips taken around our time frame, the more I am starting to think it isn't going to be as cold as I had thought it would be. I see lots of people in t-shirts, shorts and the cold times seem to be Tracy Arm and around the glaciers. I had thought it would be cold all the time, but I am now thinking that isn't so.

DH is in the military and we are stationed here thanks to Uncle Sam. So far been a most excellant trip;)

:wave2: Welcome!

2 surprises in one vacation! Nice!

:thumbsup2

HI!!! you can always dress in layers on the plane :lmao: j/k. I am an AWFUL over packer, so I won't even attempt to give you any advise! When is your husband's bday? Mine is the 10th so I guess I'll be celebrating a little, too!

The 14th. Time to party!!!:cool1:

Sheesh, I can't keep up with you guys! Pesky job keeps me away from my vacation planning fun. What is up with that? :confused3 Don't they know I'm missing out on the fun! :lmao:

Here's a link to the original picture of Mickey and Minnie for those that wanted it.

The website said the pool was heated if the temp is below 75. And one of the Port Adventures in Ketchikan offers snorkeling with wet suits provided. :rotfl:

I am ALWAYS cold! So I dress in layers pretty much year round.

I saw that too a few days ago. Those pots look triple the size of mine at home. But I also notice there seems to be a menu next to the selection of pots. I was thinking maybe it was self serve and you pay per cup.

Never been in Outlook on any ship, though so hopefully someone has the correct answer.

Ours is a 32 oz. I believe. I was planning on bringing my own loose tea and some "fill up yourself" teabags and then just getting hot water from room service, but if I could steep in one of those, that would be even better.

Like you, I imagine it is order by the cup, and it probably isn't cheap and the tea probably not the quality I would be looking for, but I will have to check it out.

That Outlook space looks amazing, and I think I could find myself spending some time up there if it gets too cool outside.

My Dad was in the military his entire life, and we moved a lot, but military life treated us well.

In one of our FE exchanges, we got some beautiful origami birds, wonder if there is any such thing as an origami Mickey Mouse.

Mine is 32 oz also. I'm new to the cast iron. I got it from my mom for Christmas and I LOVE it! It's a bummer they are so heavy because you could bring yours with you. But if you have a Teavana or Cost Plus World Market near you or Tuesday Morning you might be able to find a travel mug made for loose leaf tea that you like. Teavana is so expensive though. I found one at Tuesday Morning for under $10.

I would like to see the view from Outlook on the Wonder. It seems like it would be cozy for Alaska. :-)

The Outlook Cafe used to be the Outlook Bar. Before sailing to Alaska, the bar was enclosed with glass windows all the way around. You can get to the Cafe Cove from Deck 9 up to Deck 10 or from Deck 10 across from the Aft elevators. It really is a great (adult only) quiet place to enjoy specialty coffees, teas or other beverages. During the day you can see the scenary while staying nice and cozy.

The Outlook Cafe is not on the Magic.

So I'd like to add myself and my wife to the meet up! I just added our names to the google doc in the first post, and we are very excited. We went to Alaska on the Wonder last September, and had so much fun we want to do it again at a different time of year.

We are Teavana regulars, and I agree that it is expensive. DH and I both have that wonderful tall travel mug that they sell, and I am definitely going to pack those. They keep things warm all day long.

Hey there, Hi there, you're as welcome as can be...

Those of you that have been on the Alaska sailing do know that we newbies are expecting some help along the way. We hope you are going to share all those wonderful tips that you have and tell us when the plans we are making may not be the best idea. :goodvibes

I see you are in Orange County. My son and his bride just moved back home from Rancho Santa Margarita. We were lucky enough to visit a few times while they were there and to have our first visit ever to Disneyland. You live in a pretty area.

I know right! AND they have these stupid filters on the Internet at work! Do you KNOW how hard it is to read these web pages on my phone????

Glad it worked. And that you like it. My FE link is almost done.

:goodvibes

Looking forward to the FE link, too. We just closed our 3 night trip for May and we have 5 cabins! 5! I think that will be a nice break in. You know going from 5 to 400 will be a piece of cake, right?

HI!!! I'll add you to the 1st post when I get a chance to update from home (again darn job gets in the way of these things grumble grumble hehe).

I've posted the FE signup link and my own version of an FAQ. It's on my first post right under pequele's. You can either go back to page one or click here for a shortcut to it. I'm trying to make things as user friendly as possible. :goodvibes

I'm in. One quick question, I know you are going to send the list out later on, but will it be somewhere, like that other google docs thing, that we will be able to see as we go along? No problem if the answer is no, just thought I would ask. :)

Okies, I think Koko (MoonDaughter23) was able to lead me through putting the google docs links into a pretty format and get them posted to the 1st thread. Let me know if it works for you guys or not, please!

Also, a couple of questions I have for you about the 1st post. Would you like me to just leave it as room and names since you can look up other info on the google docs like meal seatings and celebrations, or would you like me to add anything (or keep off other things I already listed?) to the 1st post? I would love to add more links if you find them, like trip reports or anything. Post them and I will try to catch them through here and stick them on the 1st thread! :thumbsup2

Anyone on FB

OK, I wanted to share this, and then I thought no, and then I thought go for it,
so here goes--this startled me, so don't watch if you are the jumpy type and I would say watch it yourself before sharing with kids.

Why I am not going ice fishing in Alaska:

So, after it scared me to pieces, I laughed until I fell off the sofa and had to watch it five more times. I hope it isn't real, but it sure looks like it is.

No problem for asking. :goodvibes

If you're wanting to get a jump on prepping your gifts (which I can completely understand) what I can do is add an FE column to the Roll Call spreadsheet and put an asterik indicating each stateroom who signs up for the FE. Would that help?

The two main reasons I didn't post a link to the FE spreadsheet is because participants' emails will be on there and DIS forums are accessible to public view. Also the votes for group size are on there and I was trying to keep that anonymous in case the need for splitting into groups is unnecessary (and so I could come up with a happy medium to make it fair for everybody if we do have groups.)

The only thing is if we do end up with 60+ staterooms of more than 200 people you won't necessarily know who's in your group until the final list comes out.

General question for everyone: My original plan was about once a week I was going to add to my post an updated count of total participants (How many women, men, boys, girls...) If I add an FE column to the Roll Call Spreadsheet should I still post the counts?

Having an asterisk on the rollcall spreadsheet works for me. I just need no. of cabins and no. of people in the cabin. Others may wish more info, but I am happy with that. And, I would also be happy with just an update every now and then, whatever is easier. :goodvibes
