May 2011: The Year of Surprises! [TR]

Your princess interactions sound great, I especially love how Cinderella acted afraid of your DS and that he was going to kidnap her. :lmao:

I was very impressed with the Princesses! :cloud9: I am so thankful they did the Theater and now have FPs available. We waited to see Tink for nearly 2 hours in 2009 (it was the only thing DD wanted to do, so we couldn't deny her). So a 5 minute wait (or 20 minute standby) was sooo much better!

DS absolutely loved the attention! I think the Princesses love to see the little boys more than the girls, since they usually only see brothers being forced along. But DS was just as excited to see the Princesses as DD was. And he loved the attention - her thinking he was a real pirate and he was a threat! It was great!!

What fun, i love following along.
We didnt have anything too special in the room either. No wait, We did get a rollled up wash cloth with rubber bands around it and eyes stuck on. Ods looked at it and said What is this? I have no clue. I will say however, Ods had decorated Mousekeeping envelopes, with stickers and glitter glue and day one, he got a nice note of thanks from the mousekeeper:goodvibes

Awww, that's soo sweet! Did you take a pic of your towel animal? If so, I can't wait to see it on your TR! We can play the guessing game of what it is. :lmao:

That's really sweet that your Mousekeeper left ODS a thank you note! I bet it really made his day much brighter!! :goodvibes

Your comments on your dh are cracking me up!
I'm glad you got to have a dismeet! Anakin seems like a sweetheart!
It seems like they should have a better way to get the TPL PP pics. I could imagine the line to get them being really long at peak times. Was the other vegetable a poorly cooked spinach?

Well now I'm wondering what I've said about DH. :confused3 :lmao:

I was so excited to have my first (and only) DISmeet! It wasn't my only "meet", but it was the only DIS one. And Tink was such a great person! I really enjoyed meeting up with her. We hoped to cross paths again, but sadly it wasn't in the cards. So, hey, another excuse to go back! :thumbsup2

All they said at TPL is that I needed to go to a PP kiosk to have them added. Once I got to Information on Main Street, they sent me to the Theater. I'm sure there were other locations, but it was the closest one. I was afraid if I didn't do it that day, we wouldn't get them added. I'm not so sure on all the ins/outs of the PP stuff. I think it was so long since it was nearing Wishes/park closing.

Oh it was definitely not spinach (I probably would have enjoyed it, had it been). It seemed like some kind of sprigs of something - I think I've had them in a salad before. They weren't very tasty, but the orange things were. At first I thought it was sweet potatoes, but I already had potatoes on my plate, so thought surely not. :confused3

Sorry, I have been MIA. LOVIN' your TR!
I thought I would comment after each section or I will forget it at the very end.
That is very irritating about the "Popular" CM sitting in front of you. I would have been irritated as well.
Sorry to hear that Seth was frightened of HM. I, also, agree that the crowds at WDW were brutal this year. I have never in my life seen so many rude people. What is up with that???
It doesn't make for a magical time :wizard: when the people are so ignorant. We had some irritating teenagers on our HM ride and they were singing Lady Gaga songs really loudly then had a screaming contest while we were on the ride. Jay was getting scared because all of their blood curdling screams. At on point, Mike shouts out for them to shut up. :lmao:
I am loving your pics!

After a restless night ... I kept having nightmares that I'd sleep through my whole Disney trip. :sad2: ... I awoke to my alarm clock buzzing at 6:45AM. Once up, I started getting ready, letting DH and the kids sleep a bit more.

Once everyone was up, dressed, sunscreened, and ready, we made the quick trek to the bus stop. We didn't wait long for a bus, and we practically had it to ourselves. We were feeling that this was a great sign of things to come!

We arrived a little after park opening and went straight for Star Tours FPs. After looking around a bit, I finally asked a CM where to sign up for JTA. He pointed me in the direction and we jogged over ... only to be greeted with one of the longest lines we had seen. We heard someone mention they were putting kids in evening shows, so we knew we'd be turned away if we attempted the line. So we walked back to catch one of the JTA shows on our way to see Muppet*Vision. I did ask the kids if they'd rather chance the line or go tour the park. DD was smart enough to know that waiting in lines just bites.

After the JTA show, we went to Muppet*Vision and was first in the holding room for the next show. We enjoyed the pre-show, as always, and saw in the front row. DH really cracked me up ... the CM announced to pick any seat in the house, but recommended for kids to be in the front. DH insisted we had to sit all the way at the end, fill in all available seats first. Boy, he has been trained well at WDW. I pointed out that we could sit in the middle, and he argued that we had to scoot all the way down. So I went and sat in the middle with the kids. He finally followed me.

When exiting M*V, I saw a very sad sight.

Disney2011pictures021.jpg

I had been looking forward to the Phineas & Ferb M&G for months, only to find out shortly before arriving that it was being postponed. I was thankful the kids didn't know, or they would have been heartbroken.

After M*V, we browsed the shop. DS got new ears!

Disney2011pictures022.jpg

I sent our newlywed friends (Ben & his wife) a text since I knew they were visiting DHS this day as well. They had ridden ToT 4 times and RnRC 3 times. I pointed out that there was more to see than just those two attractions. I also asked if they wanted to meet at Backlot Express for lunch. They said they'd love to, so we went on the Backlot Tour while we waited for lunch time to roll around.

I never could get a good picture of the plane.

I love Backlot Tour ... simply because it has one of my favorite movie props. Kudos to those who recognize it. (I was sad that they moved it though.)

Disney2011pictures034.jpg

After Backlot Tour, we got a text from Ben that they were ready to meet for lunch. We took the maze over to Backlot Express ("Didn't we just come through here?").

I had the Southwest Salad with Chicken. YUM!

Disney2011pictures035.jpg

DH had the Angus Onion Straw Cheeseburger. He said it was good.

Disney2011pictures038.jpg

DS had the Meaty Mac. He didn't touch it.

Disney2011pictures039.jpg

DD had the Chicken Nuggets. She ate it all, then helped me eat my salad, and then helped brother eat his Meaty Mac.

Disney2011pictures040.jpg

For dessert ... DH and I both had the Darth Vader Chocolate Cupcake! YUMMY!!!

Disney2011pictures036.jpg

After lunch, we decided to grab our TSM FPs. Guess what. They were all gone. The FP machine was closed. The wait was around 70 minutes, so we decided to check back later. Instead, we grabbed FPs for ToT and RnRC for DD and myself. (I used 2 tickets each kiosk.) But first, we saw a Green Army Man, with no wait. So of course the kids had to go meet him!

Disney2011pictures041.jpg

Disney2011pictures042.jpg

We decided to use our Star Tours FPs, so we went that way. Guess who we passed! The newlyweds.

Disney2011pictures043.jpg

They were on their way for TSM FPs. I told them they were gone, we just came from there and the wait was 70 minutes. So they decided to tag along and ride Star Tours as well (they had FPs).

Let me just say, I was a bit worried with the changes to ST ... but I absolutely LOVE the changes!!!! I won't spoil it for those who haven't seen it yet (send me a PM if you really want details). We agreed that we wanted to ride again, and again, and again, and again!

After unboarding, we browsed the gift shop. The kids had a blast!

Disney2011pictures044.jpg

On our way out, a family stopped us with an upset little boy. They asked us how DS did on ST and then asked DS some questions. "Did you enjoy it? Would you ride again? Do you think my son will like it?" DS responded with a huge "YEAH!!" "I hope we ride it again!" And DD chimed in that their DS should totally attempt it. The boy seemed to perk up a bit, and I do hope the family got to ride as a family.

We felt the wait times at most attractions were reasonable throughout the first part of the day. And yes, we really did ride ST shortly after lunch. I posted my love for ST2 at 2pm, so that put us riding around 1:15, so about an hour after lunch. We were all fine.

Stay tuned for the next chapter of DHS: Back to back stunt shows: Can we handle it?

Loving the DHS section. We have some similar pics of the kids with shirts, helmets and such. :lmao: Backlot Express looks to have some pretty tasty food. We ate at ABC Commisary. (sp?)
Cannot wait for the next section. :cool1:

Commenting on your lazy day:

Wow! Mousekeeping is determined to get into that room and get it cleaned. We had a similiar experience. We had been gone all day and came back around 4 pm and they are just then getting ready to come and clean the room. REALLY???!!!! We told the lady that we were just getting back and were exhausted and didn't want our room cleaned for that day. She had to call someone on our phone and then made me sign something to say that I requested her not to clean my room. WEIRD! I guess she was just trying to cover her bottom. :rotfl:
Your eye did look red. That was one on vicious bug biting you in the eye like that. I had a gnat or something fly up my nose one evening, as well. YUCK!

Loved the dissappearing food. We had some of that happening on our trip, too.

As for the food allergies. We only had only one chef come out and talk with us at our Grand Floridian Cafe meal the first night. He didn't seem all that thrilled to be talking with us. It seems like on our 2009 trip, the chef and restaurants were much more compliant. Jay didn't have any problems, THANK GOODNESS.

On to the next installment!

Love the princess M&G, how lucky you guys were to see Jasmine! She was the one didn't get to this year :(.

The food at Tony's looks so good, I may have to reconsider my usual MK TS restaurants!

First installment of MK: Is it magical?

Sorry to hear that your eye, legs and feet were bothering you on this trip. I didn't get any blisters...thanks to the Body Glide. DH and DD did get some though. I kept telling them to try the Body Glide. It is their own fault....:lmao:

Sorry you had to wait so long for the bus, but it was awesome that you had such a great bus driver. :thumbsup2

I am so glad to hear the DH was really enjoying himself this year!!!

Sorry that the food at CR wasn't that good. We usually have liked the food there. As for the guacamole burger, that would probably be the same burger my DH would choose if he had a choice. :rotfl:

I think I may know what the surprise is, but cannot wait to read all about it!!!!

Wanted to let you know that I am still here. Things have been kind of crazy here the last couple of days and I am going to try to catch up a little on the Dis tomarrow. :thumbsup2

YOUR TR IS SOOOO GOOD I CANNOT STOP READING! :cloud9:

A Pirate Made Your Baby Cry Part one:

Wow! That sounds a bit rude with the CM saying that it is about time you arrived. He might have been just being gruff for his character. I hope so.
We had a CM at HM act a bit sassy, but I think she was just playing up her part or maybe she was just sick of all the people. Just like me....

TPL looks pretty cool. I absolutely love your DD's makeup and hair. She looks fabulous. Jay enjoyed looking at the pics of your DS becoming a pirate....popcorn::

On to the Part 2.......

TPL Part 2:

It sounds like the kiddos had a wonderful time at TPL. I am so glad the CMs went out of their way. It always makes for a much more magical time. :wizard:
The kids really got lots of loot. I am with you about the shattered nail polish. My toenails look like that with out having to pay extra. :lmao:

I will catch up on your last posts tomorrow. I have to get the kids ready for showers and then beddy by.

I'm so glad you're back!

Feel free to comment on however you feel best.

I'm sorry that you had AWFUL teens on the ride. Did they shut up after DH yelled at them? Wow, I am surprised a CM didn't intervene!! What is up with that??

Loving the DHS section. We have some similar pics of the kids with shirts, helmets and such. :lmao: Backlot Express looks to have some pretty tasty food. We ate at ABC Commisary. (sp?)

Oh, I can't wait to see the similar pics!!!!

We love Backlot Express! I offered up suggestions for our newlywed friends, but they wanted to try BE as well. I have to try ABC next year. And I can't wait to see/hear what you enjoyed at ABC!

Mousekeeping SERIOUSLY made you sign a waiver??!!??!!

In the past, we've had days we just didn't want anyone in our room, so we put the DND sign up. That's just really dumb to sign a waiver because you don't want your room cleaned. I mean ... seriously. That's ... WEIRD! It's not like there's anything pressing that has to happen. We had our room serviced everyday, but usually, we just have it serviced every other day or every 2 days. We don't need clean towels daily, and I don't make my bed at home, so having it made on vacation isn't important to me. Outside of that ... I don't get it. Is it more like a room check than a cleaning service? They want to see inside your room that you haven't vandalized the walls? :lmao:

Sorry to hear about the gnat. However, I'd gladly trade the gnat for the eye bug. :rotfl2:

Of the two chefs who spoke to us the entire trip, only one seemed to be happy to be doing his job (and it was at 50s PTC). He was overly concerned, and he was super friendly and made sure that if we had any questions or issues, he'd be happy to come back out. I'm so sorry that you didn't get chefs making sure Jay's food would be allergen-free. I'm glad that everything turned out okay though!

(And no offense, but I really dislike GFC and we will NEVER go back. We had such a HORRIBLE unDisney experience there in 2009, it really made me not want to return to Disney at all. We NEVER found a relatively nice CM that entire night in the restaurant. From the Hostesses to the servers, to the managers. Awful, awful people. Karma is a you-know-what. That's all I'm saying.)

Love the princess M&G, how lucky you guys were to see Jasmine! She was the one didn't get to this year.

The food at Tony's looks so good, I may have to reconsider my usual MK TS restaurants!

I was so excited to see her! We hadn't encountered her before either. We've passed her, but with long lines, we never stopped to see her (in MK or EP).

Tony's was absolutely delish. We'd have no issues enjoying dinner there again. I dunno why it has a bad rep - all I really heard was "Tony's? Don't go there!" I really don't get it. :confused3

Guess I'll have to order Body Glide for our next trip. It's your job to remind me, okay? :lmao:

We loved the food at CR last year. I think I just got some overcooked meat or something. Or maybe it was the cheese (since they had to change it because of the stupid parent who didn't test the temp of their kid's food). :confused3

Wanted to let you know that I am still here. Things have been kind of crazy here the last couple of days and I am going to try to catch up a little on the Dis tomarrow.

On to the Part 2.......

I really don't know if he was in character or if he was a jerk. (And now I even wonder if the CM gave me the wrong time when I made the appt. It wouldn't be the first time it happened to someone.) :confused3

I didn't let it affect my day.

I'm glad Jay enjoyed DS's makeover! It really was an awesome experience!

TPL Part 2:

Have sweet dreams TK's family! :grouphug:

Almost forgot............SUBBING!!!!:thumbsup2

Darn skippy you better sub! :p

We left off with arriving back at CSR for sleeps. I confess, it was awful getting DD's makeup off. Her eyes were blue for a few days. I really wished I remembered the makeup remover. :sad2:

Again, I didn't sleep. More nightmares and just all around restlessness.

When my alarm went off, I was able to open both eyes. HOORAY! It was still a touch puffy and pink, but overall, it was definitely better.

Today was our Epcot day. I was hoping to meet our "World of Warcraft" (ie WoW) friends today, and possibly cross paths with lovethattink.

Once DH got out of bed, the whining started. Okay, let me state, he whined soo much on this trip. The past two trips, he never really whined much, but this trip ... AHHHH! He was driving me crazy! And the kids had whined a lot too. It's too hot. I'm too tired. I want to ride this NOW. I don't want to walk all the way over there. You name it, it was said. But I brushed it all off and kept smiling and tried to reassure everyone that this was going to be a great trip and we should have fun. We're in Disney, remember?

So once everyone is up and ready, we had to the bus stop. A bus arrives pretty quick and we're heading to Epcot! YAY!

We arrived around 9:40am. I posted to Facebook "heading to Epcot for the day. Cranky-pants is with us. Hope he straightens up soon." Immediately, TK posts back "Is my DH there??? I thought he went to work today." I couldn't resist but reply to let her know he'd be home in time for dinner. ;)

I love my husband dearly, so please understand, my update was in good sport. And while he doesn't have FB, he was sitting next to me as I posted it. lol

Immediately, we head to Soarin' to grab FPs. I check my phone. No message from our WoW friends. We head over to Mission Space (green team). Immediately DS starts to panic. He doesn't want to go to space. He wants to stay on Earth. I explain that its just a simulator, like Star Tours and if he doesn't like it, we won't ride it again. He agrees, but as we're almost ready to board, here comes the waterworks. Ugh! He does straighten up, but informs us he won't press his buttons and he'll cover his ears the whole time. (He didn't press any buttons, DH pressed his for him, and he did keep his ears covered the best he could with the restraints on.) DD and I had a blast, flipping switches and making up things to say to the command center. DH rolled his eyes at us, I'm sure. lol

After we finished, DS said he never wanted to ride that again. Well, okay then!

I checked my phone, no messages. I was getting sad that I wouldn't meet up with my WoW friends. (We've only "hung out" in game and chatted via Vent - mic - texts, and FB. They invited themselves along once they found out we were going to WDW and we were excited about it.) I check the time and decided we should head to WSC. The kids had another surprise!

We take our time walking to WSC, and saw someone sleeping on a bench. I was a bit puzzled by this ... the park hadn't been open that long and there's already a napper? She looked to be young adult (late teens, early twenties). I dunno. If I was that tired, I think I would have stayed in the room, or at least gone back ... but I don't know her story, so can't really say.

We arrive in Norway. I wasn't quite sure where we needed to go ... but as I was checking out the MASSIVE line for Akershus, a guy walks up to me and says "You look like the family I was waiting for." O_o (I half expected him to offer to show us his wares or something next. lol) He proceeds to tell us we're in the right place and starts to take us over to Akershus. I said we weren't there for dining, we had a Storybook Experience booked. He then asked if we were the (our last name) family. Yup, that would be us. We walked past Akershus, and to the left of Maelstrom. He sent us up an elevator where we were greeted again. This guy checks our name off, gives the kids bookmarks, shows us his tables on AAA information if we needed anything and then takes us into the Storybook room.

He tells the kids to get comfy anywhere they want, but he recommended the floor around the seat so they could see the pictures! There was only 4 families in there with us. We weren't told who would read us a story, only that it would be a Disney character. Can you guess who it was?

Disney2011pictures192.jpg

My favorite!!!! Mary Poppins!

Disney2011pictures193.jpg

Immediately ... I noticed she didn't have a parasol. I try to brush it off ... this is for the kids, and this CM doesn't have to be perfect and live up to my expectations ....

Disney2011pictures194.jpg

Disney2011pictures195.jpg

She chatted with the kids for a few minutes (as a group and individually) before she even acknowledged she had a book). It was great! She asked them questions about their vacation, favorite rides, if they had ridden her favorites (and non-favorites), if they were being good boys and girls. She had a lot to talk about with them.

Disney2011pictures196.jpg

Then she read part of her own story (about Uncle Albert).

Disney2011pictures198.jpg

Disney2011pictures199.jpg

Overall, she was wonderful. It's hard for any CM to live up to my expecations of my favorite character/movie. But she did a great job.

Even while she was reading, she chatted with the children. My DS gave her a chuckle a time or two.

About halfway through the story, she lost the attention of most of the kids. It's obvious not all children present were book lovers. Mine hung on to her every word, but several other children decided to play off to the side and it did interfere. At one point, she even commented that she had lost their attention and offered to play a game with them if they'd sit down and listen to the rest of the story. (It didn't work so well, but she did finish her story.)

After the story was over, she did play a game. They played "Mary says" (ie Simon says).

Disney2011pictures200.jpg

Disney2011pictures201.jpg

Disney2011pictures202.jpg

The kids got to take turns creating things for them to do. Afterwards, they played Follow the Leader. They were to carry their parasols as if they were flying. It was DD's choice.

Disney2011pictures203.jpg

Disney2011pictures204.jpg

Disney2011pictures205.jpg

Once they circled the room, she offered to take pictures with each family, one at a time. She selected DD and DS to go first.

Disney2011pictures208.jpg

She continued to talk to them a bit afterwards, reminding them to behave and such.

Disney2011pictures209.jpg

Disney2011pictures210.jpg

She asked DS for a verbal "yes" (that he'd mind his manners), but he nodded (for the second time). So she let us know that she wasn't quite sure about him. rofl

I did record the whole experience... well, I should say DH recorded it since I insisted. lol But I won't post it, as its about a 30 minute video or so.

Afterwards, we hopped the line for Maelstrom, since we were right there, and DH wanted to ride (one of his favorite WSC countries is Norway). After the ride, we browsed the shop, since we had some time to kill before lunch. Again, I checked my phone. No messages from WoW friends. I was a bit sad.

We played in the Norway store a bit.

Disney2011pictures211.jpg

Disney2011pictures212.jpg

Disney2011pictures213.jpg

I think we'll pause here for now (due to picture limit). In our next post, we'll discover if we made it to Teppan Edo, if our WoW friends make an appearance, and who gets sent to Time Out. Yep, there's a Time Out in store for someone! (Any guesses?)

Stay tuned for: It's MY trip and I want to have fun!

Thank you so much for sharing your trip with us all! Instead of marking and creating exams I have spent a couple of hours reading of your family's adventures. I love the results of the TPL, DS10 saw the pictures and was quite interested which is great because last time we were there he would have nothing to do with it!

Can't wait for the rest!

Your dinner at Tony’s looks very good. I love the Lady and the Tramp on the plate. We ended up cancelling our ADR there to stay at our resort, hopefully we’ll make it there someday.

The princess interaction looks great. It is nice that they spent so much time with the kids.

Poor DS thinking he would be boarding a run- away train. Where did he ever even hear of a run –away train?

Thanks for dropping by! I'm glad your DS enjoyed our TPL experience. I do highly recommend it, and can't wait to go back! :cloud9: Perhaps he'll have a change of heart for your next trip. ;)

I totally recommend Tony's. I really wish I knew why everyone keeps saying "don't go there". :confused3 I just couldn't figure it out. Even the kids loved it ... so it can't be that bad.

I do love that the characters really do try to make everyone's visit so magical. :cloud9:

Last year, DS loved BTMRR ... but this year, he turned into a big chicken. I don't know why he was so scared of riding ANYTHING really - but he was terrified of the train because he thought it was BTMRR (the run away train roller coaster - see the theme?). Sadly, that was a small outburst compared to what happens..... :sad2:

Oh my goodness the surprises are awesome! I didn't even know there was such a thing! How do you book the storybook experience? I cannot wait to have kids and pull off these awesome surprises, great update!

I think it was your DH that got a time out, LOL.

I am so glad that your eye was starting to get better!

This is the first report that I have read that talked about the AAA story time, sounds like fun!

The Storybook Experience is a perk through booking with AAA. We were entitled to this perk in 2009, but our TA was ... well, she wasn't. That's the best way to put it. She just wasn't. :sad2:

Our TA this year, she told me all about it, and everytime I talked to her, she offered to make reservations for us, and she kept asking if we booked the Storybook.

I actually called her today for some advice on our upcoming 2012 trip, and she asked if we made it to our ADR and what we thought. It was well worth booking through AAA for it and I can't wait until next year!!

I highly recommend the experience - especially for kids! And most certainly if the kids love books! (If they aren't big into books, it isn't as awesome for the kids, but still worth it.)

And interesting for you to think DH got a time out. I guess we'll have to see. ;)

Thank you! I was glad it was getting better too! I was afraid I'd have to seek medical treatment. Not only did I despise an extra expense, it would have been time away from WDW!

I'm glad you enjoyed reading about it. I've not seen any other TRs mention it either. It truly was worth it - but I know some people aren't comfortable booking through AAA (or any TA). I'm just thankful I found a great one and can trust her! :cloud9:
