May 2008 code watch

:woohoo: Doing the happy dance!!!!! :dancer:

We had POFQ booked for May 11 - 17 and I called this morning to check about AP or FL res. rates. Was able to get a great AP rate at AKL so I jumped all over it. It has been awhile since we've stayed at AKL so I am giddy!!!!!

FWIW - Didn't have to have a code, just asked about it. The CM on the phone was incredibly nice and helpful so changing ressies while in a Sudafed induced state of stupor was made a lot easier. :)

When I called and said I wanted to make a new ressie with an AP code, the girl asked me for it, so be sure to have it in-hand.
She also asked if I wanted the dining plan added on also. Seems they are really pushing that. I don't need it this time around, especially with DDE, but I'm glad AP holders can finally get in on that.

So you basically have to be an AP holder to get these rates. If not you're out of luck?

You don't have to be an AP holder to book, but you do have to be one when you checkin. If you're an AP holder you can also book online instead of calling. It's a nice perk to be able to price the resorts without calling.

As of today, the answer is yes. They tend to offer AP discounts first then FL resident discounts then general public discounts. Ok....n2mm said it better. You have to be an AP holder when you check-in to have the current discount applied, otherwise be prepared to pay rack rate.

If you don't have an AP at the present time, you can still book it via phone. However, you must have a valid, activated AP with you at time of check-in.

By the way, do you think this AP rate will also become public? And if yes, when, do you think?

No this will not be available to the public. There could possibily be a room only discount later after AP holders book up the resorts they want, most likely there will be a Florida resident code released today or tomorrow to also book. If there is a general public code released, if would not be until after these groups book, but would be higher than the AP discount. (If there are any empty rooms left to fill.)

Depending on your resort and length-of-stay, an AP may be the way to go and end up paying for itself. It will take a bit of number crunching on your part, but it could work.

I really don't mind paying rack rate. Sure I want to save some money, but an AP makes no sense for us. We only go down every 3-5 years anyway. I'll just wait and see what happens.

When do you think we will be able to book this online? I really like the convience of being able to play around with all the different resorts and see what the best deal is. I cant seem to do as much when im on the phone.

It seems to be in the afternoon that the website gets the info. I've not gotten my AP email notice yet either. I usually get 3 of them on different accounts. I prefer to check out the rates online than calling and getting different answers each time.

Thanks for posting this - we have AP vouchers but we didn't get an email and nothing was posted on the website yet. I just called and was able to save $40 per night over the AAA rate we had at the Poly garden view. Woo Hoo!

The CMs I talked to were very kind and helpful. They both said they were just told this morning that AP can now get the dining plan without having to purchase a package including a base ticket. But you don't have to get DDP to get the rate.

I just got off the phone with the CRO and for my res in May at POR, I could save another $100 off my current AAA discounted room with an AP. But the AP will cost me another $182 above an 8-day park hopper. Not really worth switching because I'm not sure I'd be back within a year to use the pass. :sad1:

I like to do that too - last time I booked the CM told me one price and said "does that sound good" and I told her no because the website said a WAY lower price. I am hoping they get the website updated soon.

Well my friend was able to call and book her room for AKL the 1st week of May. She said they ran the numbers both ways and the Disney Visa deal ended up better then an AP for them (she would have had to buy an AP just for that reason, unlike us to have one already :) )

The Savanna room was not available, but pool view was. I told her not to be disappointed because AKL has a good odds of giving people upgrades. They do have pool view. We have DVC Savanna view, so they can come in our room if they have to. :thumbsup2 :cool1: I am excited! We have gone to WDW a few times in the past with these friends and we travel very well together (and our kids are close together in age.)

Has anyone been able to get AP rate for May 13-16 at Cr for Magic Kingdom View in Tower.

Travel agent said it wasn't availble, but I was just wondering if anyone was able to get Ap rate for these dates in this type of room.

Thanks,
Jennifer

This is where it sometimes gets confusing on discounts :scared: - you have to crunch the numbers. It's not that Disney's code is the same % as AAA's - you just have to compare to see which one is saving you more. ...
Whew........... I bet this is way more info. than you wanted! :) Having said all that though - the easiest thing to do is have Disney price out your pkg. with the deal and then compare it to your AAA total - then go with the one that gives you the most! :goodvibes
Thank you Robin4! :teacher: This really helped me a LOT! :cheer2:

When I called this evening for the AP rate (had to wait until I got home from work) the CM I spoke with could find a room at BW, a studio at SSR, and AKL (Standard view & pool view). I put a hold on the standard view. She said that was all that was available at that time. She mentioned that Port Orleans had sold out for AP rate already when she got to work that morning. I asked specifically for YC, WL, AKL. She said nothing avail. for WL, YC, or BC specifically.

I'm going to deposit on this one, but keep checking back because more rooms might open up as people put holds & then decide not to book with the deposit, or change plans, etc.
