May 2008 code watch

Well my friend was able to call and book her room for AKL the 1st week of May. She said they ran the numbers both ways and the Disney Visa deal ended up better then an AP for them (she would have had to buy an AP just for that reason, unlike us to have one already :) )

The Savanna room was not available, but pool view was. I told her not to be disappointed because AKL has a good odds of giving people upgrades. They do have pool view. We have DVC Savanna view, so they can come in our room if they have to. :thumbsup2 :cool1: I am excited! We have gone to WDW a few times in the past with these friends and we travel very well together (and our kids are close together in age.)

Keep in mind that this is the main resort for the Minnie Marathon which is that first weekend in May. The marathon actually starts at AKL so I'm sure many of the runners will be staying on there. I would tell your friend not to rely on an upgrade as I guarantee this resort will be sold out that first week quite soon.

True, but they arrive on the Sunday after the Marathon (we get there the Friday before so it is something to keep in mind for us. We have a DVC villa though.)

Are grad weekends still going on? I know they were last year when we went this time. They are having the P&P party on Friday nights, normally when Grad nighs were. Anyone know? I don't mind just want to be prepared if they are.

Why does it seem like any time we go to WDW there is a marathon of some kind going on.:confused3 Not kidding, every time 1st week of Jan, March and May are the best time for us to go (DH has break from the college he teaches at.)

I didn't know this. Do they do anything at the hotel for the runners (i.e., special events, etc.) that a regular guest should be aware of? I'm holding a room at the AKL for that weekend right now (trying to decide if I want to switch from the Swan), and if there's going to be any sorts of disruptance, maybe we'll stay put.

Last night my flight went down by $100, so I rebooked that YAY! Now I got the general public offer for free hopper and waterpark just now ... 10 days so it was well worth the savings. :thumbsup2 saved a couple hundred so far :cool1: Oh and I won a $100 DISNEY gift card at work YAY  love this- it is like a game now! :rotfl:

Wow, I didn't know you could rebook a flight if it went down in price! What airline are you flying? Is this true for all airlines?:confused3

Depends on the airline. Some charge a fee, some do not.

Some airlines give you an airline credit if rates go down and you call them on it. Not sure if they still do it, but I did this with SWA once.

I'm confused about the codes being posted. So you only get an add on to your MYW ticket? Do you get any sort of discount on your room? Sorry if I'm being dense.

Thanks to everyone who answered my above questions!

The code is only for free park hopper and water fun and more option on your MYW tickets. No room discount.

Thanks 2Moms. I called my TA just now and she is checking to see if it would make a difference for us. We booked through AAA with the park hopper so I'm not sure it would be a discount for us. I'm so confused.

On a side note, it looks like we'll both be at the lodge around the same time. Cool! We have a DD who will be 2 when we make the trip.

WHAT GENERAL PUBLIC OFFER? WHEN DID THIS COME OUT. I'M SO CONFUSED!:confused3

After calling this morning an not getting anywhere with the CM-was only offering a $7 difference from my AAA to the Fl Rest. Discount and switching from POP to ASMovie not worth it I told him. I called back and was offered a $30 difference if I changed my dates from May 9th-11th to May 14th-16th and still stay at POP so that's almost a dinner out for DH and I so I took it.

We weren't able to use the code. My TA called this AM and the only way to take advantage of it was to upgrade from a woods view to a courtyard view. It would cost us $300 MORE. So I passed.

Hope you all get some good deals!!

Same with us. It was $200 more to upgrade to courtyard view..not worth it to get the waterparks and more (we already have park hoppers) At this point, I'm just hoping they upgrade our room when we get there. That will make me happy.

Anybody eles disappointed in the ticket upgrade instead of a room discount. For my family it wasn't much of a savings because we don't plan on going to the water parks/DQ even though it will be free.last yr they offered room discounts and I was hoping they would do the same this yr.We looked into getting an AP but its not that much of a saving since were just at a value. I know that Disney doesn't really "owe me anything"I'm just jelous of the people that get good discounts/codes. Maybe there still is hope for a room discount.
