May 2, 2014 - A WONDERous trip through the Locks WBPC

Ok, here's a dumb question. I will have my ipad with me, but don't I need internet to use the app?

I have not had the experience, but on the cruise forum there is talk of an abbreviated Navigator that is made available through something in house so to speak. I will ask there if no one here knows what I mean.

Are any of you taking DCL transfers from the port in San Diego to the airport or taking a cab? Would it be better to book a car company to meet us instead? We have walked around San Diego and I seem to remember it being a small port area so not much room for taxis.

I did some research. Unfortunately at the moment it is only available on the Magic, Dream and Fantasy, but it says that it will come soon to the Wonder so I downloaded it just in case. Even if I don't get to use it this time, I will be back on the Magic at some point.

If it should become available, the instructions state to switch the phone or tablet to aircraft safe mode and then turn on WiFi. You then need to access a specific network, which is free to use.

Good to know.

I prefer live talks, so I'll be sure to get to them. There's some sort of app to use for iPads, right? We have not had that available before.

So far the app is only workinf on the Fantasy and Dream. I hope it will be ready for our cruise. You don't use the internet.

Thank you for the Navigator information. Too bad the Wonder will not have it!

For anyone interested in the Navigator app, the Disney Cruise Line Blog had a nice post about it and I just saw that it was updated with new info a few times: http://disneycruiselineblog.com/201...d-app-for-a-sea-trials-on-the-disney-fantasy/

I have it on my Ipad - but it is only an Iphone app, so will be formatted like an Iphone app, not adjusted to the bigger screen.

It does have a neat countdown timer! :goodvibes

When you all started posting about the app in conjunction with the talks about the Panama Canal, I thought you were talking about a Panama Canal app. There is actually one. It is from the Canal Authority and it is free. Unfortunately I can only link to the German Itunes which is no good for you. The name of the app is Canal de Panama and it is by Autoridad del Canal de Panama. You can change the language to English (I missed that at first and tried to navigate it in Spanish... :upsidedow). It is not horribly exciting, but has some neat pictures!!

This sounds really great. I am keeping my fingers crossed that this will be available for the Wonder by the time we get on the ship.

It has been out for the other three ships for quite some time, so I think there is hope for the Wonder. I would think that they would have added any additional infrastructure during the dry dock and now just need to get it to work. At least that is my reasoning! No idea whether DCL thinks the same way as me! :rotfl:

I figure that the Alaska season is important for them so it makes sense to have it up and running for that. Then it would also make sense to use us as "Versuchskaninchen".

I have been told that maybe in April the app will be live on the Wonder. That's a maybe.

Hi Granmaz:cool1:My DW and I are taking the Super shuttle from the port to the airport and the cost was 12.00 total. They can be found on the web if you want to use them or not if you already have made arrangements.:moped: I did download the navigator app onto my android-yep I said android:stir:,unfortunately I don't think it will be available for the WBPC on the Wonder :sad1: I want to wish a happy birthday to Steven Tyler of Aerosmith:rockband: and I am listening to their live Bootleg album as I type this. There will be Rock, Pop, Regae, etc... coming from my room and balcony during this cruiseparty:. Hope you all have a great day.:firefight

:cheer2: :welcome::welcome::welcome: :cheer2:

Lots of different events to sign up for if you are interested (check out the 1st page of this thread) pixie dust:

Also, you may want to do "countdown posts" since you need ten posts before you can PM (private message) someone :ssst: No one on here cares if you do. You just type a "1" and post it, then a "2" and post it until you hit 10! :cool1:

Thank you so much! I am a lot more comfortable with facebook! I signed up for a couple of things. I will do the FE when I hit 10 cruises! I have no idea what a roaming Mickey is and I think I will have time to read these 113 pages of posts in about 37 days. lol

I am so sick of these boards -- here is my 10th post so I can finally PM people - sheesh --- I don'thave time for this ---

Just re-read this --- I sound like a totally non-fun cranky pants LOL --- anyway, yesterday was an aggravating day - please overlook! I'm really fun in person!!!

I hope your day got better! I know it's too late for you, but I tell people to do just as ERDocG says (and do it before you need to send a PM). FYI to anyone else new.

...I ran to see Goldfinger because I am a James Bond nut and I am to young to ever have had the chance to see that on the big screen. So maybe they will do that again. They did it by setting up a DVD projector. Great idea....

I remember being at the playground at the drive-in movies while Bond movies ran overhead.

You follow the instructions to turn off WiFi (as Corinna spells out).

I loaded the app while on the Magic this month. I'm more of a Luddite; I'd rather have that TV-guide format on paper in front of me. It's a totally different format than the Nav, as far as I remember. The app does include menus (don't know if they have all of them or just the rotation dining/standard meals).

:lmao:

I am planning on leaving the IPad at home and the IPhone in the safe anyway, but if it is available, I will certainly play with it. Big part of vacation abroad is for me to actually be free from electronic devices for a change!

I think somebody has already answered your question about the distance. On all the longer cruises that I have done, they offered this on every sea day in the morning. When I looked at the Navigators for the Eastbound crossing last year, they had a second session in the afternoon, too.

Corinna
Good To Know! Thanks!

Enjoying your wonderful city yet again. Glad we've managed 5 days of fabulous sun. Hope tomorrow Wont be too gloomy and wet.

You are lucky to live in such a great city.

Congratulations...it should be wonderful! We did the one last year and loved it, which is why we booked this WBPC cruise. DH and I are interested in doing the WBTA next year, but it hasn't been announced, shucks!
