May 2, 2009~~~Magical MAYniacs!~~~ 7 day Western....Updated, April 3,2009!!

Thanks Zerog. I;ve calmed down now and am mad that I didn't just book it myself...here's the emails I got from them about it.
She flat out told me she reserved the wrong date for me.

1ST EMAIL
"Hi Tracey,

I have gotten the two rooms for you.(REFERRING TO MAY 2ND) It will be some time today before I can get you the quote as we are not able to confirm if the Kids Half Off offer is being applied and I will have to call this in. This would only reduce the price for Ryan, but it will take some money off the total price.

Thank you."

2ND EMAIL

"Hi Tracey,

I’m on the phone with DCL right now. I noticed that the date I was able to get two category 12 rooms on was not May 2 it was May 9. I was not able to get category 12 rooms on the May 2 date. I have not changed anything with your reservations right now. Let me know if you want the May 9 date or if you want me to continue looking for two category 12 rooms on May 2.

Thank you."

I guess I don't have any other choice but to wait and see if they open back up...I need mega pixie dust.

Hey MAYniacs! Did you know that the Magic was in Dry Dock last September? For those not in the know, dry dock is the cruise ship equivalent of a spa vacation! :lmao:

I haven't read through all of the postings, so my apologies if this info has already been posted.

DISNEY MAGIC UPDATES AFTER DRY DOCK
Reported by Tracy Whipple
Dreams Unlimited Travel Agent

New on the Disney Magic since dry dock in September, 2008:
New TV’s on the Disney Magic. All of the televisions on the Disney Magic have been replaced with LG LCD panels in the staterooms and suites on the ship. Additionally, the televisions are all digital.

The safes in the room have all been replaced. Instead of using your Key to the World card to open and lock the safe, you are now instructed to enter a 4 digit code. The new safes are larger than the previous ones and a small laptop will now fit inside (very small). This is much nicer since before you needed to have the same card to open and close the safe and if that card is not available, you were not able to get in. Now, you just need everyone in your room to know the code.

The lockers in the locker rooms also are now using a 4 digit code rather than a key now.

New washers and dryers on the Magic!! These have been replaced in all of the three laundry rooms on the ship. The units are slightly smaller on the outside than the old units, but the space inside is the same. The cost has not changed and the cycles are $1.00 for the washer and $1.00 for the dryer. The best news is that the dryers work better! I was able to wash two large loads for 29 minutes in the washers and 45 minutes in the dryer. I had jeans in one of the loads so I expected to pay for another cycle. At the end of the 45 minutes, everything was completely dry!

Other changes with drydock included the addition of the splash zone by the Mickey pool and refurbishment of Quiet Cove. All of the lounge chairs have been replaced with the teak wood chairs with cushions. The tile floor in the pool has been replaced with a blue painted floor. All of the hot tubs (even by the Goofy pool) have been replaced with stainless steel tubs. The coloring around the pool is now in mostly blue with white and black accents rather than the mother of pearl coloring on the Wonder.

In Sessions, the stage area was moved so that when you walk by, you will be able to see what is going on inside. Basically, the stage area was switched with the seating area on the far side of the room.

Up Beat has been totally rearranged to have more of a selection. Instead of a couple tables by the door and a long counter, the counter is now smaller and to the right when you enter with shelving units on the back and the side with a couple table displays.

Most of the carpeting has been replaced throughout the public areas of the ship. The chairs have all been reupholstered in all the dining rooms and public areas.

Shutters has starting using a Photopass type system. It is still in the beginning stages, but the portrait sessions are using the system. They are also still printing out the photos as well. When you get your photo taken they scan your Key to the World card. Then there are kiosks where you can view all your pictures. You cannot look at your pictures after you leave the ship online like with Photopass however. After the New Year they will be getting a software package that will do facial recognition. They are also working on a way that you can check your photos online after the cruise, but again, it is not set up that way yet.

Finally, two of the engines on the ship were replaced in
dry dock and a new coating was put on the keel of the ship.

We were told that this was the most expensive dry dock that the Magic has gone through with many enhancements that may not be totally visible to the guests.

I hope everyone that had the snow storm recently have thawed out.

We didn't have any snow but man did the eastern seaboard get nailed! Going on the cruise would seem a million miles away with all of that!

Thank you Spencer - That article was very interesting. I can't wait to get back on the ship to see all the changes. I remember that counter-top space was very limited in our stateroom (thus the reason an over-the-door clear plastic shoe-holder is my #1 tip). I hope the addition of an LCD will allow a little more counter space.

The change to a 4-digit pin is another great addition. We used an old hotel room card to open/lock our safe, which we hid in the room. Now we won't have to bother. The picture situation at Shutters was always a mess. It will be interesting to use the new photopass system.

I guess it's time to start reading the trip reports to see what others have to say about all the new changes.

The days/weeks are really screaming by fast. It seems like yesterday when I posted the 13 week countdown. Now here we are at almost 8 weeks away.

Yes, Thanks so much for the update on things!

Also.......ZEROG...I have been freaking out since yesterday, it hit me once again how close things are coming and quickly! :scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

We are in the middle of a major reno at home and had been hoping to be done before we leave.....well...don't think that is going to happen.
We made a pact last night that whatever work I have left to do as of April 1 will just wait til we get back, that way I don't have to try and overload myself prior to us leaving. We will have to wait and see if that actually happens:confused3

The time is just flying by!

I apologize if this has been discussed but this is a HUGE thread and the search tool is never cooperative :) I am considering booking this cruise for my Husband an I. Can anyone tell me how the availability of Palo dinner and brunch looks right now for this cruise?

Thank you in advance!!!

Hi CDFL30.. After logging-on to the DCL website, all that I was offered for PALO dinner was Day 1 at 8pm and 8:30pm. I didn't want to mess around too much, in fear that I would 'accidentally' cancel my current res. As far as brunch, I believe someone said that was completely booked.

Nonetheless, I still hope you join us. :thumbsup2
