May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

We did :) We got this one just for a slightly better walk around lens:

http://www.amazon.co.uk/Tamron-17-5...3FY8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1362594926&sr=8-1

Also got a smaller tripod and a few more books. Also a hot shoe spirit level. I love getting new camera things too, makes me so happy :)

Fisheye really does split opinions, I enjoyed it, DB was a bit meh.

I looked at lensrentals for our California road trip in Dec/Jan, off to check out borrowlenses now - thanks! :)

There were 4/5 people interested, I am actually thinking it may be rest if I start an event and give it a time/date on our website?

You can still take great snaps with a decent point and shoot. It's the mistake many people make, they assume buying a expensive camera automatically makes them a good photographer. Drives me mad.

Let us know about then lens :) I am thinking it may be best to put something up on the website about the photowalk as I don't want people thinking I have forgotten about them.

Thank you so so much :goodvibes

Heard some nice things about that Tamron lens. Congrats to the new gear. Yepp and another name or two spoke up on my original post. Getting something up at this point probably be great.

Ohh you mean that the D4 didn't make me a good photographer ;) j/k
What really irritates me is when people say "Ohh that is a great picture, you must have a really good camera" that is when I want to pull out some of the pictures I taken with my cell phone saying ohh that picture is nothing check this one out what you think about that one? And when they exclaim that is great and once again give credit to my camera tell them I took it with my cell phone...

Talk about sure you can take decent pictures with a P&S or even cell.. Here is a proof

Okay so I found the email he sent:
The lens he wants is: Nikon 35mm f/1.8G AF-S DX Lens for Nikon Digital SLR Cameras, any thoughs on this? he said something about it being mid-range?

I like the look of the fisheye for somethings, I have seen some awesome wedding photos taken with it. I just don't have an artsy eye.

Now that my little sister is coming along, she might be interested in joining you as well. She just got a Canon but hasn't had time to learn it with 2 little kids running around. I think adding it to the website is a great idea!

That is a very nice lens. 35mm at f/1.8 is very great and that lens is tack sharp as well. I got the 50mm f/1.8 version and love it especially for it's low light capabilities, one of the nice thing with the 35 is that your Depth of focus (the area in the picture that is in sharp focus, distance wise from the camera) isn't to narrow (shallow), at 50mm shooting at f/1.8 it can get very shallow but at say 85 or 105mm it's even more so. So that 35 makes a great low light lens for museums and other areas where flash is not permitted.

He will love it.. (Lucky sod) ;)

I have that lens and am very pleased with it. At f/1.8, it is a fast lens, great for low light conditions.

I've used it for nighttime and lowlight shooting, such as stars at night, items in a museum display case, and while on the Haunted Mansion ride.

Woody

Amen. Talk about Haunted Mansion I took some last time we where in Disney World but never uploaded any, however I did upload Jack Sparrow from the PotC ride.

Used my 24-70 2.8 at 70mm

There's always something else on the wish list when you are into photography! I spent big time on Monday, not only did I get my lens but I bought my sons birthday present there (Nikon D7000) and got a real bargain. He is just getting into Sports photography as he's had my old Nikon D40 for the last 2 years. He had a photo published in the North Wales News (newspaper) and got his photo on the match day programme for Colwyn Bay last saturday (proud Mum!).

I am so glad to hear the Photowalk is still on.

Double congrats to your son (for published pic and new camera). The D7000 is a awesome camera and he will be able to push his creative skills with that camera a long way.

Glad I brought up the walk again..

Oh yes and the wish list never ends! I also don't think you ever stop learning :)

Nope never ending wish list and there is always more to learn.. Think that is one thing I like about photography. Always something new to learn or improve upon. That way hard to get bored.

Look like US release date is May 3rd so I think we will have it.

Although still not entirely sure who owns that Marvel franchise - Always used to be Universal but for some reason Disney claimed ownership of the 'Avengers'

Disney bought Marvel for $4Billion. Yeah they own Avengers ;)

Since the movie is released and that recently there is no doubt in my mind it will be shown on the ship. We got to see Avengers in 3D in the main theater last year during our end of May cruise in the Carribbean.

Of course they will not show anything that is not Disney owned but they own a lot. Last year saw War horse and a few other more PG-13 and up rated movies.

On another cruise we saw The Princess and the Frog and they had a midnight premier showing of it on the ship (midnight ship time so was actually 1 hr before east coast time), we decided to wait and go watch it on one out of numerous showings the next day instead of the midnight release.

So I would be fairly certain IF the Iron Man movie was released while we where at sea we would get a premier showing of it and probably even a midnight premier and it would be in the main theater and they would have a few more showings of it in there to.

I'd say probably on a fairly early sea day. The best times probably would be early am or late afternoon for outdoor shoots (best light, want to avoid that harsh noon light) but I'm not a early riser so not to early LOL..
I would say we probably want to figure about an hours worth of time, maybe if we do it in the afternoon with time for a few sea sunset pictures. But part of that will also depend on when people have dinner (early or late, the early will be finishing theirs when sun sets I think). Or we can have a couple of them one for interior which is best any time really and another for exterior with good light.

When you come up with a date/time/location to meet, just let me know and I can add to the first post - calendar :goodvibes

So that makes 6 of us than... Alright time to start looking at when (which sea day) we already know where :surfweb:

I am happy to go with morning or evening - or both! We are on late dining but I would happily miss the MDR one night to participate if necessary.

Thanks for sorting us out!

My guess is, if it's out it'll be on the boat - BIG TIME. I was on Fantasy when Avengers launched and they showed it in the main theatre instead of the nightly show! They had it in the cinema also if you wanted to go see. Frankly I would have preferred it. Those theatre seats give you a numb bum after 2 hours.

Thank you! I'm also hope they show Wreck It Ralph because I could sit through that film again and again! :)

Oh wow, we are getting something before the US? Lol, whoop! It's been going the opposite way again recently with cinema dates!

Fancy camera or not all are welcome. It's more about how you use it, granted once you know how to use it you can get to a point where you hit limit on what you can do due to technical limitations that is where fancy comes in handy ;)

Alright, I must have missed that but than I not been very religious on reading on here and I probably skipped over 30 pages to try to get caught up ;)

I'm happy to do a couple. Love the idea of sunset shots, especially on a normal night when nothing is on. We are in the late dining........

Sorry Sara, I should have got something up on the website weeks ago...time has just ran away with me the last few weeks since I started my new job.

Morning Everyone,

Just had a thought one of the nice things about cruising was sailing away from he port on the WBTA's we have been known to congregate on 10 deck forward in one of those under used wooden U shaped seats and watch the ship cast off and have some drinks, bring your own, whilst we set course to head back to Europe. This would be nice from all ports apart from Gallveston as people will still be enjoying the DCL celebration. If we are lucky you will see many dolphins heading out of the Gibraltar port and round by Europa point.

The staff were always happy to oblige with plastic glasses of all sorts. Some people mixed Pimms, others had Champayne or Prosseco and some had a bit of everything.

Anyone interested, this does not need an organiser, simply meet at cast off. I can help thinking their should be some sort of "transatlantic ceremony" for he newbies similar to neptunes when crossing he Atlantic.

This sounds really cool. When is the actual sail away party then?

I agree, it would be cool for a whole ceremony especially when it is such a cool cruise to be on :)

I agree, it would be cool for a whole ceremony especially when it is such a cool cruise to be on :)

I can add an informal gathering location to post #1. Above is the general schedule.
From watching the Magic leave Galveston on webcams, she has been departing around 4:30 (as in lines have been tossed). All aboard times are above. DCL will have a huge sailaway party by the stage up top for sailaway.
Departing the other ports - the idea is a great one that Mary suggested. (I still think Mary is going to just quit her job and surprise us by being onboard with Stevie ;) ) If we decide on that as an informal gathering spot for the other three ports, I can add that location to the calendar on post one. :thumbsup2

 Yay!! Thank you so much for organizing this!! It's always a task to gather reservation numbers, names, etc etc etc to send to DCL for these sort of events. Thank you!!

Ah, ok. Is it like, right next door? We don't have a car, but I know that one has an airport shuttle. I think all we'll be fit for is food then bed after travelling, but you never know, I might be able to fit some shopping in if its near to walk to!

I don't think anything is right next door in America is it? Google maps thinks it's about half a mile away.
