May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

I have that lens and am very pleased with it. At f/1.8, it is a fast lens, great for low light conditions.

I've used it for nighttime and lowlight shooting, such as stars at night, items in a museum display case, and while on the Haunted Mansion ride.

Woody
Thanks for the review, I think I have found his birthday present!

Nice choice I think!
Okay, this confirms it.

I'd already said to DH he would need his purple shirt and black trousers packed for villains night. It was so fab seeing everyone on WBTA 2011 dressed in purple/black on the night :maleficen

I just bought DH a purple dress shirt and tie! He wasn't to thrilled as he isn't a purple/pink kinda guy.....and I got myself a new purple dress on sale

Was that the one at the NEC, we were there on Sunday :) Good choice with the Sigma. We have rented the Canon and Sigma 10-22 and found the Sigma to be slightly better. Same with the Sigma 15mm fisheye. Next on our wishlist is a Canon 5D Mark III. ;)

Yes, we went on Monday thinking it might be a little quieter than the weekend- it was heaving!

There's always something else on the wish list when you are into photography! I spent big time on Monday, not only did I get my lens but I bought my sons birthday present there (Nikon D7000) and got a real bargain. He is just getting into Sports photography as he's had my old Nikon D40 for the last 2 years. He had a photo published in the North Wales News (newspaper) and got his photo on the match day programme for Colwyn Bay last saturday (proud Mum!).

I am so glad to hear the Photowalk is still on.

Aww congratulations to him! Things like that are awesome! :)

I was thinking of booking the day off work for it next week but may just stick to the Sunday now! There was a good deal on a Canon 5D Mark II refurbished and we were tempted.....

Oh yes and the wish list never ends! I also don't think you ever stop learning :)

That rings a bell, thanks Mandy! Did somebody mention they got pics with the fab five as well as they were all dressed up? I want a mask! :)

Yes -- we had Mickey Mouse Clubhouse tshirt night as well as DIS members. We can either pick a night after we know what the other big event nights are, or plan on wearing them the night we see the Fab Five (or Fab Seven!) in the Navigators. It will be denoted as it usually only happens once per long cruise apparently - one of those photo opportunities you don't want to miss. Then just plan on wearing our tshirts that night.

We had talked about having a "backup plan" of having it one of the last sea days so if for some reason our cruise gets jipped and we don't get the Fab Five photo opp..... then we still have a backup date to wear the same tshirts. That way they don't go to waste (with our limited packing space!). One suggestion was last sea day, but a comment was made that people will be packing and may not be at dinner, so do the second-to-the-last sea day as the backup. I don't think anything was decided yet as we are hoping at 30 days out we will have better ideas on some of the big events with DCL. Just keep checking when we call DCL and keep each other informed of entertainment events they have planned for us :thumbsup2

It's another event that doesn't necessarily need an organizer - just put it on our calendar when we have a plan in place.

I was thinking of getting a Mickey Mouse clubhouse t shirt as well! Is there a night when you can have your photo with all of them together.?? *faints with excitement*

I'm really hoping Ducky Williams and the Beatles tribute are on our cruise!

It's on my "to ask" list once we get within 30 days. :3dglasses

DB is hoping Iron Man 3 will be. It's out in the UK on the 24/04 so is there a chance it could still be on the ship?

Do they show any adult films or is it Disney movies only? Which there is nothing wrong with!

Oh and erm, I don't mean THAT kind of movie...........

You got that right - I can't do anything either (for the Med), and I am not using a TA - so other than being able to book excursions, I can't get our docs - however, I am sure that DCL will take care of all of us B2B'ers in their usual efficient manner......so I am not going to sweat getting anything else but our ressies for the Med, and then let DCL worry about the rest on the morning we get off the boat to get back on - :yay::yay::yay:

I did a B2B in January - different to what you are doing here but all the same when it came to the 2nd cruise i didnt actually need by ticket book - I'd checked in online and just had to give them the sig form as usual. I'm sure you will be fine.

My guess is, if it's out it'll be on the boat - BIG TIME. I was on Fantasy when Avengers launched and they showed it in the main theatre instead of the nightly show! They had it in the cinema also if you wanted to go see. Frankly I would have preferred it. Those theatre seats give you a numb bum after 2 hours.

Look like US release date is May 3rd so I think we will have it.

Although still not entirely sure who owns that Marvel franchise - Always used to be Universal but for some reason Disney claimed ownership of the 'Avengers'

Disney now owns Marvel, they bought it a few years ago. Were you on the Fantasy when it premeared? I am 100% sure Iron Man 3 will be on the ship.

My husband is a little concerned about being "disconnected" from his office while crossing the Atlantic. Does anyone know if there are satellite type phones that can be used when there is no cell service?

I don't think anyone answered this part of the question.

At least on Fantasy and Dream they have on-board Cells. Standard roaming fees apply but these should work Mid-Atlantic as they are hooked into the Marine Satellite systems.

They are slow (GSM/EDGE) but will allow you to get emails through on something like an iPhone/iPad

If you are on Vodafone sign up for the international data program. £5 a day outside of Europe for 25mb data only charged on the days you use it and this system does work with the Disney onboard cells. If it flips over to European charges at some point in the trip that'll only cost you £2 a day.

I've used it on the last 4 Disney cruises i've been on and its been fine apart from on one occasion when I trying to do OLCI for a flight home and it was just too slow.

Not sure about premiering - I was on-board in May 2011. I think it was shortly after the premier.

Okay, we were on the Fantasy in end of April/beginning of May and it came out at midnight. Was thinking maybe we were on the same cruise.

I am still very interested in a Photowalk, I've been meaning to ask if it was still going ahead.

I went to the photography show on Monday and bought a new wide angle lens - it was a difficult decision, Liked the Sigma 10-20mm and the Tokina but after mulling it over and reading a few reviews I went with the Sigma.....still wondering if I chose the right one!

Next on my photography wishlist is a 120-400mm but it won't be in time for the cruise.

Well that means we have four people for a walk than assuming Tink1987 and her DH is in. :woohoo:

I heard lot good about the Sigma it wasn't released when I bought my 11-16 Tokina (it's not the new II model). :dance3:

120-400 nice that be the Sigma I assume? I got the 50-500 thanks to my DW that got it for me last year before our eastern and western Carribbean cruise. That 50-500 is a beast but it's sharp and boy does it reach well. :crutches:

Empty float by Eje Gustafsson, on Flickr

Picture I snagged with it during a slight detour by the captain one day on the cruise. (Somehow I think I knew before the Captain it was empty).

Might not afford to buy the 120-400, could always rent it if the rental places gotten it in yet.

I'm still interested in a photo walk. I don't have fancy camera's like you, but like to get some interesting shots for my scrap booking.

Fancy camera or not all are welcome. It's more about how you use it, granted once you know how to use it you can get to a point where you hit limit on what you can do due to technical limitations that is where fancy comes in handy ;)

I am still very interested in a Photowalk, I've been meaning to ask if it was still going ahead.

I know DH was interested and I think (I hope), I expressed his interest on here?

Alright, I must have missed that but than I not been very religious on reading on here and I probably skipped over 30 pages to try to get caught up ;)

So that makes 6 of us than... Alright time to start looking at when (which sea day) we already know where :surfweb:

I'd say probably on a fairly early sea day. The best times probably would be early am or late afternoon for outdoor shoots (best light, want to avoid that harsh noon light) but I'm not a early riser so not to early LOL..
I would say we probably want to figure about an hours worth of time, maybe if we do it in the afternoon with time for a few sea sunset pictures. But part of that will also depend on when people have dinner (early or late, the early will be finishing theirs when sun sets I think). Or we can have a couple of them one for interior which is best any time really and another for exterior with good light.

What are you planning to do with the cabins that want to be on every list? I know my two cabins want to give to everyone and and I get the feeling there are a few others as well. This messes up the 4 groups of 13 cabins.

I am not sure what he uses to process them as it is on his computer and he ignores me when he is working on them. He is just starting to get into photography. Somewhere, I can't find it now, DH sent me an email about a lens he was looking at. If i can find it, I will post it and see what you think.

Thanks for explaining, DH and I have no pataiance and are not the best at explaining things, esp. to each other.

I know DH was interested and I think (I hope), I expressed his interest on here?

Happy to explain, I enjoy talking especially "teaching" about things I know and I'm sure my DW will say you can't get me to shut up if you get me going ;)

You know where your DH publish his images or if he is on any SoMe (i'm big abuser of twitter and G+). Feel free to tell me what lens once you find that e-mail.
