May 18, 2013 Magic EBTA Part Two - From Tejas to España

I just noticed on the May 10 rollcall they have started receiving cruise docs and luggage tags! Woohoo... We are next!! Or at least it would seem that way... I am certain someone will correct me if I am wrong.

That sounds like a plan to me! :thumbsup2

Has anyone seen the thread on the main board about the 4 year old drowning on the Fantasy yesterday? He has been airlifted to hospital with his family. What an absolutely horrendous thing to happen, my thoughts are with him ad his family and I hope he pulls through.

Things like that really put things into perspective.

So tragic. Hold your little ones close today. I know I will.

It made my heart drop the first time I saw that post. Definitely said a prayer for the family.

Yes regarding perspective. Our sermon series at church right now is titled "30 Days to Live", and having lost a couple students of my own the past few years, I could not even begin to fathom a parent's worst nightmare.

Yeah..great thinking..

BTW do you or anyone know if there is a liquor store within walking distance to Hobby?? I booked us at the Country Inn and Suites. Gotta have my wine and Geoff's rum.

I received a message back from my college roommate:

"There are several convenience stores around there. I wouldn't walk in that area. I'd check to see if the hotel has a shuttle. Sometimes they'll drive you within a mile."

She used to be a high school basketball coach if that says anything about her not wanting to walk in the area.

Getting some cruise stuff done while the kiddos are napping - church and egg hunting wore them out thankfully! :)

This may sound strange, but I am thinking of bringing it from Chi..wrapped in wine skins, then walking it on the boat..
I am saving the hotel shuttle for dinner as I think we will need it. Maybe we can do a stop on the way back form dinner..HM>>:scratchin

Dh is in India, and Geoff is working, so it is just me..but I grilled Tuna and had salad..more room for desert!:rolleyes1

Not strange at all! I took a bottle for our anniversary to Costa Rica last week. Wrapped it and packed it in checked luggage. Just hoped it didn't have something crazy happen. No issues at all.

I did have a coke can break about 12 years ago inside a bag (not carryon) so I did impromptu laundry - so I know the risk, but sometimes worth it. ;)

Hi all. we're new to DCL. thank you Y et for letting me know qbout this thread. i just read about about the Nursery, is DCL strict on the age minimum for tots to participate in the activities? My twins are 2 at the time of sailing, but will turn 3 on May 22. Seasoned cruisers, do you know if they'll let that slide or should i start looking for available nursery times? thanks in advance :)

i'm on page 20 of this thread, just 76 more to go. look forward to meeting you all.

Hi Teri,

We were in a similar situation on our last cruise as our daughter, Grace, was just short of 3. We spoke with DCL prior to cruising and they said it would be fine for her to go to the oceaneers club as long as she was toilet trained, our daughter was dry and would ask to go to the toilet but needed a little help due to the height of the toilets. The staff will NOT assist children in going to the toilet.
We dealt with this by dropping Grace after she had used the toilet and collecting her after an hour or so. The staff have your wave phone number so that if there is an issue they can contact you to attend.

We didn't book any time at flounders due to this info prior to the cruise and that worked fine for us

Paul

Welcome aboard, Teri! We are in a similar situation as our daughter turns 3 right after disembarkation. When I took her on the Magic in November we were definitely too young (as we were for WBTA in 2011 at age 15 months) but what Paul said is correct from what I have read multiple places about kiddos on the verge of turning 3. Even so, in November we never used Flounders but did go to the "open" hours of the 3+ kids club where I could accompany her... just never left her then because still so young. This time we might have a chance of leaving her.

The most current info is kept updated on pages 1-2 of this thread so don't stress much about reading all of the pages of this or the part 1 thread --- some of us like myself had booked this cruise on opening day in January 2012 and have been posting since then. Also, we have had people pop on and off the rollcall, or someone make a post with a question and then a lurker PMs them different info that has caused concerns - so do not be surprised if someone sends you a PM versus posting here (and in some cases, take it with a grain of salt because for example DCL may say a certain night is "casual" but someone may PM that you need to wear dressy clothing - not sure why PMs are flying around versus just making a post public - I have linked official DCL dress code on first post a while back). You can send a PM when you have ten posts on DIS. And don't worry about being a newbie - we all were at some point - hopefully we are all here to help one another out to help make this an even more magical vacation for all families. :) I know the helpful advice of other cruisers prior to our first DCL cruise was of tremendous help to me (and we have "cruised around" --- don't cruise specifically on DCL - have two other cruises this year on other lines booked but the posts from others about DCL things helped us out a lot as well as how to manage a longer cruise with children).

If you want me to add you to the hotel post I can do that as well, just let me know (link on first page) but get signed up for events ASAP as deadlines are quickly approaching! All of the events are on page one - so really check out those deadlines.

Again, welcome aboard!! Less than seven weeks to go ---- YAY!!!! :cool1:
